This research aimed to identify the linkages between marketing mix elements and the purchase decision process among consumers in the Malaysian retail industry. To fulfill this objective, the present study followed a quantitative survey for gathering the data from the consumers of department stores at the East Coast region in Malaysia. All of the obtained data were inserted and coded using SPSS and then analysed by AMOS 18. The findings indicated that the impact of advertising on the consumers' purchase decision is positive and statistically significant. Besides that, the findings demonstrated that distribution intensity has a negative effect on purchase decision, whereas price plays a key important role in affecting purchase decisions process of the consumers. Lastly, the findings of this paper verified that store image and store location have significant positive linkages with purchase decision. These outcomes enhance our understanding on the role of marketing mix elements in determining a consumer's purchase decision, particularly in the retail context.

This paper studies Greek junior high school students’ alternative ideas, both initial and synthetic, on geodynamic phenomena. It comments in detail on students’ concepts on Earth structure, earthquake occurrence, volcano formation, and relief change. Additionally, it attempts to trace and interpret how and why these ideas form (concept development), presenting that initial and synthetic ones are indissolubly attached and utterly directed by environmental interaction. Data analysis verifies that curriculum inadequacy and false scientific terminology in textbooks enforce the generation of alternative ideas. New synthetic alternative ideas on geodynamic phenomena are presented which are mainly characterized by intermittent and fragmentary perspective. Furthermore, the characteristics of both initial and synthetic alternative ideas are outlined, giving emphasis on the facts that students represent geodynamic phenomena as instantaneous events and that they are able to describe the repeatability of the phenomena, but they show difficulty in capturing their continuity. Finally, more factors that control alternative idea development on geodynamic phenomena are highlighted—such as (i) lack of continuous thinking, (ii) distribution, intensity and frequency of geodynamic phenomena, and (iii) current affairs (i.e., pollution, technology evolution, human intervention)—hoping that their revelation will lead to alternative ideas’ decomposition and thus to pure scientific knowledge.

Dark skin-type individuals have a greater tendency to have pigmentary disorders, among which melasma is especially refractory to treat and often recurs. Objective measurement of melanin amount helps evaluate the treatment response of pigmentary disorders. However, naked-eye evaluation is subjective to weariness and bias. We used a cellular resolution full-field optical coherence tomography (FF-OCT) to assess melanin features of melasma lesions and perilesional skin on the cheeks of eight Asian patients. A computer-aided detection (CADe) system is proposed to mark and quantify melanin. This system combines spatial compounding-based denoising convolutional neural networks (SC-DnCNN), and through image processing techniques, various types of melanin features, including area, distribution, intensity, and shape, can be extracted. Through evaluations of the image differences between the lesion and perilesional skin, a distribution-based feature of confetti melanin without layering, two distribution-based features of confetti melanin in stratum spinosum, and a distribution-based feature of grain melanin at the dermal–epidermal junction, statistically significant findings were achieved (p-values = 0.0402, 0.0032, 0.0312, and 0.0426, respectively). FF-OCT enables the real-time observation of melanin features, and the CADe system with SC-DnCNN was a precise and objective tool with which to interpret the area, distribution, intensity, and shape of melanin on FF-OCT images.

AbstractInland fisheries and their freshwater habitats face intensifying effects from multiple natural and anthropogenic pressures. Fish harvest and biodiversity data remain largely disparate and severely deficient in many areas, which makes assessing and managing inland fisheries difficult. Expert knowledge is increasingly used to improve and inform biological or vulnerability assessments, especially in data-poor areas. Integrating expert knowledge on the distribution, intensity, and relative influence of human activities can guide natural resource management strategies and institutional resource allocation and prioritization. This paper introduces a dataset summarizing the expert-perceived state of inland fisheries at the basin (fishery) level. An electronic survey distributed to professional networks (June-September 2020) captured expert perceptions (n = 536) of threats, successes, and adaptive capacity to fisheries across 93 hydrological basins, 79 countries, and all major freshwater habitat types. This dataset can be used to address research questions with conservation relevance, including: demographic influences on perceptions of threat, adaptive capacities for climate change, external factors driving multi-stressor interactions, and geospatial threat assessments.

<p>The Sahel has experienced an increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme rainfall events over the recent decades. These trends are expected to continue in the future. However the properties of these events have so far received little attention. In the present study, we define a heavy precipitating event (HPE) as the occurrence of daily-mean precipitation exceeding a given percentile (e.g., 99<sup>th</sup> and higher) over a 1°x1° pixel and examine their spatial distribution, intensity, seasonality and interannual variability. We take advantage of an original reference dataset based on a rather high-density rain-gauge network over Burkina Faso (142 stations) to evaluate 22 precipitation gridded datasets often used in the literature, based on rain-gauge-only measurements, satellite measurements, or both. Our reference dataset documents the HPEs over Burkina Faso. The 99<sup>th</sup> percentile identifies events greater than 26 mm d<sup>-1</sup> with a ~2.5 mm confidence interval depending on the number of stations within a 1°x1° pixel. The HPEs occur in phase with the West African monsoon annual cycle, more frequently during the monsoon core season and during wet years. The evaluation of the gridded rainfall products reveals that only two of the datasets, namely the rain-gauge-only based products GPCC-DDv1 and REGENv1, are able to properly reproduce all of the HPE features examined in the present work. A subset of the remaining rainfall products also provide satisfying skills over Burkina Faso, but generally only for a few HPE features examined here. In particular, we notice a general better performance for rainfall products that include rain-gauge data in the calibration process, while estimates using microwave sensor measurements are prone to overestimate the HPE intensity. The agreement among the 22 datasets is also assessed over the entire Sahel region. While the meridional gradient in HPE properties is well captured by the good performance subset, the zonal direction exhibit larger inter-products spread. This advocates for the need to continue similar evaluation with the available rain-gauge network available in West Africa, both to enhance the HPE documentation and understanding at the scale of the region and to help improve the rainfall dataset quality.</p>

The purpose of this research study is to investigate the relationship between distribution intensity and purchase behavior of customers in the downstream petroleum industry in Ghana mediated by brand equity. Brand equity components are brand perceived quality, brand awareness, brand association, and brand loyalty. The study revealed that there is a positive relationship between distribution intensity and purchase behavior through brand equity. Structural equation modelling was used to investigate the relationship among channel location, store availability (distribution intensity), and brand equity (brand loyalty, perceived quality, brand association and brand awareness) and purchase behavior. The study revealed that brand equity mediates the relationship between distribution intensity and purchase behavior in the oil marketing companies (OMCs) in Ghana. This study extends the applicability of brand equity as a mediating variable to enhance the impact of location and service mart availability on purchasing behavior of customers. Additionally, this study provides an in-depth understanding of how the various components of brand equity of OMCs brands contribute to drive consumption experience and continual usage of OMC channels in Ghana. This study is based on a cross-sectional design, and since user behavior may change over time, a longitudinal study will be useful in the future.

AbstractIn this study, a new optical method is presented to determine the concentrations of NaCl and glucose aqueous solutions by using a thermo-elastic optical indicator microscope. By measuring the microwave near-field distribution intensity, concentration changes of NaCl and glucose aqueous solutions were detected in the 0–100 mg/ml range, when exposed to microwave irradiation at 12 GHz frequency. Microwave near-field distribution intensity decreased as the NaCl or glucose concentration increased due to the changes of the absorption properties of aqueous solution. This method provides a novel approach for monitoring NaCl and glucose in biological liquids by using a CCD sensor capable of visualizing NaCl and glucose concentrations without scanning.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of acupuncture intervention and manipulation types on poststroke dysarthria. Electronic database, including PubMed, CENTRAL, Scopus, RISS, and CNKI, were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCT), treating dysarthria using acupuncture, speech-language therapy (SLT), and general management (GM), published before April 2019. The number, distribution, intensity, depth, and repetition of acupuncture and bleeding therapy on the sublingual veins were considered as manipulation types. Risk of bias of the included trials was evaluated, and their efficacy was assessed using risk ratio (RR) and the standard mean differences in the Frenchay Dysarthria Assessment and Speech Function Grading, with 95% confidence intervals (CIs).Fifteen RCT trials involving 1453 patients were isolated. Electroacupuncture plus SLT and manual acupuncture plus SLT were more effective than SLT only, respectively (RR = 1.520, 95% CI [1.183–1.952], RR = 1.380, 95% CI [1.281–1.488]). The clinical efficacy of acupuncture plus GM was higher than that of GM alone (RR = 1.165, 95% CI [1.050–1.293]). Meta-ANOVA showed that none of the manipulation types increased the clinical efficacy of acupuncture on dysarthria. The methodological quality was low. In conclusion, our study suggests that the effect of acupuncture on poststroke dysarthria may be maximized when manual acupuncture or electroacupuncture is combined with SLT, irrespective of manipulation types.
