One of the major issues in multifunction radars is time resource allocation to maximize the radar’s ability. If jet engine modulation (JEM) is more efficiently performed in an insufficient dwell-time environment, the remaining time can be allocated for other tasks. This study presents a novel automatic algorithm for estimating the jet engine blade number of insufficient JEM signals. We employed a harmonic selection rule and a modified empirical mode decomposition (EMD) with an adaptive low-pass filtering. For a refined autocorrelation waveform, the analysis focuses on a desirable combination of intrinsic mode functions derived from the modified EMD. The approach is significant because it enables reliable estimation despite the insufficient JEM signal. Also, the proposed algorithm is innovative because it uses only the time-domain method, not the frequency-domain method. The application is expected to enhance the efficiency of radar resource management.

In this paper, an automatic algorithm for the detection of subsidence areas in SAR interferograms is proposed. It is based on the analysis of spatial distribution of the interferogram phase, and its coherence and entropy. The developed method was tested for differential interferograms generated on the basis of Sentinel-1 SAR images covering mining areas in South Poland. The obtained results were compared with those achieved using a method based on circular Gabor filters. Performed analysis revealed that the detection rate for the proposed method varied from 34% to 83%. It is an improved method based on Gabor filters that achieved a detection rate from 30% to 53%.

Abstract Background and Purpose To develop a fully automatic algorithm for the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) identification of patients with spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH). Material and Methods A support vector machine (SVM) was trained with structured reports of 140 patients with clinically suspected SIH. Venous sinuses and basal cisterns were segmented on contrast-enhanced T1-weighted MPRAGE (Magnetization Prepared-Rapid Gradient Echo) sequences using a convolutional neural network (CNN). For the segmented sinuses and cisterns, 56 radiomic features were extracted, which served as input data for the SVM. The algorithm was validated with an independent cohort of 34 patients with proven cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks and 27 patients who had MPRAGE scans for unrelated reasons. Results The venous sinuses and the suprasellar cistern had the best discriminative power to separate SIH and non-SIH patients. On a combined score with 2 points, mean SVM score was 1.41 (±0.60) for the SIH and 0.30 (±0.53) for the non-SIH patients (p < 0.001). Area under the curve (AUC) was 0.91. Conclusion A fully automatic algorithm analyzing a single MRI sequence separates SIH and non-SIH patients with a high diagnostic accuracy. It may help to consider the need of invasive diagnostics and transfer to a SIH center.

This paper provides an accurate chronology of the Spanish reference business cycle adapting a multiple change-point model. In that approach, each combination of peaks and troughs dated in a set of economic indicators is assumed to be a realization of a mixture of bivariate Gaussian distributions, whose number of components is estimated from the data. The means of each of these components refer to the dates of the reference turning points. The transitions across the components of the mixture are governed by Markov chain that is restricted to force left-to-right transition dynamic. In the empirical application, seven recessions in the period from 1970.2 to 2020.2 are identified, which are in high concordance with the timing of the turning point dates established by the Spanish Business Cycle Dating Committee (SBCDC).

Abstract The study adopts a naturalistic perspective, looking at the relationship between socio-economic status (SES), activities and variation sets in child-directed speech (CDS) to Spanish-speaking Argentinian toddlers. It aims to determine the effect of SES and type of activity on the proportion of words and utterances in variation sets and on the pragmatic function they serve in interaction. Thirty two children (mean: 14.3 months) and their families were audio-recorded for four hours and the middle two hours were analyzed using CLAN. We developed an automatic algorithm for variation sets extraction that compares noun, verb and adjective lexemes in successive utterances. Mixed-effects beta regression showed SES and activity type effects on the proportion of variation sets and on the pragmatic function served by variation sets. Findings revealed that the contextual variables considered impact on how interlocutors organize the information to young children at the local level of natural at home interactions.
