Abstract An Experimental Muon Source (EMuS) has been proposed to conduct muon spin rotation/relaxation/resonance (μSR) measurements at China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS). To make better use of muons in each pulse, a highly segmented μSR spectrometer with more than 2000 detector channels is under design. Due to such high granularity of detectors, multiple counting events generated from particle scattering or spiral motion of positrons in a strong longitudinal field should be carefully considered in the design. According to the simulation, long scintillators have a good capability of angular discrimination. Detectors with cuboid geometries are better than those with frustum shapes. The cuboid detector with a length of 50 mm is longer enough to get the optimal range of discrimination angle. In a real μSR spectrometer, detectors can be placed parallelly along the beam direction or pointing to the sample. A figure of merit (FoM) has been proposed to compare such two arrangements by integrating their impacts on multiple counts and total counting loss in zero and longitudinal fields. The outstanding performance of multiple counting rejection due to the angular discrimination capability makes the pointing arrangement achieve much higher FoM. The simulation results can provide good support for the design of the highly segmented μSR spectrometer.

Today, the Internet plays an vital part in our society. We rely greatly on the Internet to work, to communicate and to entertain. The Internet is a very large and complex computer network, consisting of tens of thousands of networks called autonomous systems (ASes). The key routing protocol for interdomain routing between ASes, Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), was invented three decades ago. Although BGP has undergone many improvements, many fundamental problems and limitations of BGP still exist today. For instance, BGP does not have the resiliency to attacks and good support for traffic engineering. To date, many evolutionary and revolutionary solutions have been proposed to address these problems. However, very few were adopted. While there are many reasons for this limited adoption, one may blame for the lack of deployability, scalability and more importantly adequate functionality. SDN is a new networking paradigm that decouples the control plane and data plane. SDN breaks the ossification of the Internet and enables network innovations. SDN has been thoroughly investigated for the enterprise environment. This research investigates the application of SDN for interdomain routing in transit ASes. Specifically, the main goal is to study how SDN capabilities can be utilised to develop a scalable, programmable and flexible routing architecture for transit ISPs.

Summary One of the most challenging experiences psychiatrists will face in their careers may well be the death of a patient by suicide. This is likely to happen at least once during a psychiatrist's career, and often more. It can be an intensely complex and painful event with a wide range of emotional responses. Reflecting on the death and accessing good support helps clinicians process the emotional impact. It can also increase their resilience in the longer term by giving them a greater understanding of both their own and their patients’ limitations, and in this way strengthen their capacity for compassion as clinicians. Using an illustrative case study, this article provides an insight into the experience of losing a patient to suicide and signposts to sources of support.

This study explores the experiences of primiparous women on the path to planning the homebirth of their first child. There are many challenges along the way and although there are many supports, society does not generally view homebirth as a safe option. This study highlights the themes emerging about the relative ease or disease of the journey. Was the experience smooth sailing on an undulating ocean or a testing trek along a rocky road? There is a vast body of evidence about homebirth, with much of the quantitative literature being outcome focussed and most of the qualitative literature exploring women's experience of the homebirth-day. Birthing at home has been linked with increased maternal satisfaction compared with other birth venues and correlates with a feeling of maintaining power and control during the birth process. Homebirth has also been shown to have similar rates of intrapartum and neonatal mortality, as well as lower maternal intervention rates, in low risk populations. This study principally investigates the experience of Pakeha New Zealand women on their way to planning a homebirth for their first baby. The findings of this narrative inquiry include that women make the journey to becoming a homebirther both before pregnancy and during pregnancy, and that they need good support and information. Hearing positive homebirth stories, having a midwife who professes a preference for homebirth, and having access to homebirth resources play integral roles in becoming a homebirther.

Security and protection of information is an ever-evolving process in the field of information security. One of the major tools of protection is the Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS). For so many years, IDS have been developed for use in computer networks, they have been widely used to detect a range of network attacks; but one of its major drawbacks is that attackers, with the evolution of time and technology make it harder for IDS systems to cope. A sub-branch of IDS-Intrusion Alert Analysis was introduced into the research system to combat these problems and help support IDS by analyzing the alert triggered by the IDS. Intrusion Alert analysis has served as a good support for IDS systems for many years but also has its own short comings which are the amount of the voluminous number of alerts produced by IDS systems. From years of research, it has been observed that majority of the alerts produced are undesirables such as duplicates, false alerts, etc., leading to huge amounts of alerts causing alert flooding. This research proposed the reduction alert by targeting these undesirable alerts through the integration of supervised and unsupervised algorithms and approach. The research first selects significant features by comparing two feature ranking techniques this targets duplicates, low priority and irrelevant alert. To achieve further reduction, the research proposed the integration of supervised and unsupervised algorithms to filter out false alerts. Based on this, an effective model was gotten which achieved 94.02% reduction rate of alerts. Making use of the dataset ISCX 2012, experiments were conducted and the model with the highest reduction rate was chosen. The model was evaluated against other experimental results and benchmarked against a related work, it also improved on the said related work.

Competitive advantage can be seen as the superiority of some market participants to properly use resources and utilize key competencies to deliver greater value than competitors, without compromising product quality and functionality. In that sense, accounting, especially management accounting, successfully responds to managers’ needs for information that will be their adequate support in strategy implementation. Lean concept and target costing are just some of the concepts whose strategic orientation can be a good support to managers. The aim of this paper is to point out the similarities and differences between lean concept and target costing and to show on a practical example how these concepts bring business improvements in supply chain.

Ibyacerina caparao new genus, new species (Trichoptera: Leptoceridae) is described and illustrated from specimens collected at Serra do Caparaó, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The monotypic genus is characterized by tibial spur formula 0,2,2; preanal appendages originating from a single base with a median process; tergum X broad, heavily sclerotized, saddle-like, wider at apex, and upturned, bearing small stout setae; inferior appendages each 3-branched, setose; and phallic apparatus tubular, curved slightly ventrad, with pair of lateral processes. Phylogenetic Bayesian and maximum likelihood analyses based on concatenated cytochrome oxidase I (COI) and carbamoyl-phosphate synthetase (CAD) partial sequences (1,504 bp) including representatives of 38 leptocerid genera positioned Ibyacerina gen. nov. with good support within Leptocerinae. However, due to low branch support of most relationships among genera within the clade of Leptocerinae, except Mystacidini, Setodini, and Leptocerini, its close affinities and tribal placement are still unknown.
