Overcoming awkwardness

As Chinese people engaged with the Australian cultural scene in recent years, two posts about its humour attracted considerable attention from netizens in the People’s Republic of China. The post authors believed that their firsthand accounts of events demonstrated how Australians used humour to overcome awkward situations and regarded this as an essential national characteristic. In each case, other interpretations were possible if cultural factors had been taken into account, including the contemporary culture of China, Putonghua language usage and the Anglo-centrism that is common to cross-cultural studies. This exploratory generalist textual study concludes that the authors’ interpretations were largely determined by their cultural bias and by traditional regard for ‘face’ and politeness, and reflect the fact that, ultimately, the extent of cross-cultural communication is governed by international politics.

Symphonic Volume in the Symphony-Requiem by Bohdana Frolyak “Pravednaya Dushe”

Relevance of the study. The article is relevant as it studies the works of Bogdana Frolyak, who is a popular contemporary Ukrainian composer. Her music attracts the attention of performers and researchers and reflects the current trends of contemporary art such as musical language, new forms of choral sound, synthesis of genres. The Requiem Symphony “Righteous Ssoul” (lyrics by T. Shevchenko) is an example of a complex multidimensional nature genre renewal. Therefore, lack of research devoted to this work outlines a scientific novelty of this article. The objective of the study is to identify the features of symphony in the symphonyrequiem “Righteous Soul” by B. Frolyak. The research methodology is based on the interpretation analysis method proposed by V. Moskalenko. The concept of A. Adamyan is used to study symphonic principles. Results. Analysing the requiem symphony “Righteous Soul”, it was determined that the leading role is devoted to chorus, which serves as a main mean of expression. The choir is regarded as a symbol of collegiality and stands in as an active participant in the formation of musical thought and sounds through almost the entire opus (except for two vocal episodes). T. Shevchenko’s poetic lines are entrusted to mixed chorus and embody a main idea of the work. Choral fragments serve various functions starting from the creation of a harmonic background to being a main storyteller. At the same time, B. Frolyak’s composition realizes symphonic principles, which display themselves at different levels of organization of musical material. Symphonic patterns are expressed in timbre-textured and thematic connections, cross-cutting development, national instrumentation color and intonation transformations of themes. The composer’s principle of artistic thinking reveals parallels with the symphonic concept developed by A. Adamyan. Conclusion. A special genre multidimensionality is expressed in the symphony-requiem “Pravednaya Dushe”. B. Frolyak enriches the semantic layer of the work due to the features of the requiem. Composer takes an advantage of the cathedral’s choral sonority rich possibilities and uses the symphonic intonation and dramatic basis. At the intonation level, she unites all these features with the help of solospiv (solosining) — a musical symbol of Ukrainian nation. Finally, unique synthesis of supersubstantial spiritual and philosophic ideas with universal (symphony, requiem) and national characteristic (solospiv) genres makes B. Frolyak’s work one of the most original in the series of Ukrainian choral symphonies.

The Wisdom of Adaptation of Dong’s Traditional Residential Space Environment from the Perspective of Health——a Case Study of Gaoxiu Dong Village in Guangxi

Healthy living space is the guarantee of high quality of life, dong Village is one of the few minority living space environment adaptation wisdom of the living carrier. By virtue of its healthy ecosystem and the smart wisdom of residents, it is connected with or adapted to the natural environment to create a healthy and livable living space under low-technology conditions. Taking The Gaoxiu Dong Village as the research object, this paper analyzes the environmental adaptation wisdom of the spatial elements such as road system, drum tower space and residential building in Gaoxiu Dong Village, so as to show the spatial form beauty, functional practical beauty and national characteristic beauty of Dong Village. From the perspective of health, it analyzes the adaptive form and mode of human living space, and inherits the wisdom of building with respect to nature and environment.

VALENTINА DROBYAZGIN'S «UKRAINIAN TRIPTYCH»: A CONTRIBUTION TO THE WORLD SHEVCHENKO

The article considers the spectrum of creative comprehension of T. Shevchenko's poems, which is reproduced in modern Ukrainian choral music. Various scientific sources on art history are analyzed. The choral cycle "Ukrainian Triptych" by the modern Ukrainian composer Valentyna Drobyazgina is analyzed. The peculiarities of musical stylistics and the efficiency of saturation of musical language with national-characteristic elements are highlighted.

Development Problems and Countermeasures of Characteristic Towns in Liaoning Province

This paper discusses the establishment and construction of characteristic towns at all levels in Liaoning Province, including 13 national characteristic towns, 20 provincial characteristic villages and towns and 11 industrial characteristic towns, and then analyzed the problems and obstacles encountered in the construction of these towns, puts forward some suggestions and strategies to solve these problems, in order to provide some reference for the construction of characteristic towns in Liaoning Province.

IMPLEMENTASI NILAI KARAKTER NASIONALISME DALAM SUB NILAI DISIPLIN PEMBELAJARAN PENDIDIKAN KEWARGANEGARAAN KELAS VII SMP NEGERI 13 BANJARMASIN

This study raises the topic about the current condition of Indonesian nation character that became worried, causing unrest in society and so on. Then, to overcome those problems was by improving the character of the nation itself. One of the characters that discussed in this research was the character of Nationalism in the value of discipline. Discipline is the main capital for achieving success, with the discipline, a person will be familiar with the things that can make them grow, get something to be done in time and develop their own potential. This research was used qualitative approach. The research location was at SMP Negeri 13 Banjarmasin. Data collection methods used in this study was observation, interviews, and documentation. The testing technique in determining the validity of data is by using triangulation. While the data analysis method used was data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. The result of the research shows the Implementation of National Characteristic Values in Sub - Value of Discipline in Learning of Citizenship Education Class VII of SMP Negeri 13 Banjarmasin is good enough, it can be seen from the regulation of the school clearly stated about disciplinary although in the implementation there are still students who breaks the rules.Keywords: Character, nationalism, discipline, and Citizenship Education AbstrakDilatarbelakangi dengan kondisi karakter bangsa Indonesia sekarang ini yang semakin mengkhawatirkan, sehingga menimbulkan keresahan di masyarakat, maka untuk mengatasi hal tersebut adalah dengan memperbaiki karakter dari bangsa itu sendiri. Satu karakter yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini adalah karakter Nasionalisme dalam sub nilai kedisiplinan. Kedisiplinan merupakan modal utama untuk meraih suatu keberhasilan, dengan disiplin seseorang terbiasa dengan hal-hal yang membuat diri siswa atau pelajar bisa berkembang, mengerjakan sesuatu tepat waktunya dan mengembangkan potensi yang ada pada diri siswa atau pelajar. Pendekatan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Lokasi penelitian di SMP Negeri 13 Banjarmasin. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Tehnik pengujian dalam menentukan validitas data adalah dengan menggunakan triangulasi. Sedangkan metode analisis data yang digunakan adalah reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikkan kesimpulan atau verivikasi. Adapun hasil penelitian, menunjukkan bagaimana implementasi nilai-nilai karakter nasionalisme dalam sub nilai disiplin di pembelajaran Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan Kelas VII SMP Negeri 13 Banjarmasin sudah cukup baik. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari terteranya peraturan sekolah dengan jelas tentang tata tertib kedisiplinan walaupun dalam pelaksanaannya masih ada siswa yang melanggarnya. This paper suggests construction mentality and aims surrounding the national characteristic specialty.

Exploration of the Hakka Traditional Ware Design From Product View

The culture included in Hakka traditional ware with theoretical and practical value for application was generalized on the basis of analyzing the traditional Hakka culture. The breakthrough point between traditional quintessential culture and modern design was explored from the angle of design. Varieties of Hakka shaping elements with vivid characteristics were found through Hakka traditional design elements, and incorporated into modern design to be a means to serve regional culture and economy. Meanwhile, we further analyzed the traditional conception of making wares for Hakka, and clarified its beneficial influence on developing spiritual and material civilization of Hakka. The development of modern product design and the association between the design elements of traditional Hakka wares and conception of making wares were pointed out to be not only the case of individual designers, but also involved the cooperation between designers and the masses. The Hakka traditional culture of ware design has important influence on promoting modern product design. To protect excellent traditional culture, propagandize and develop national characteristic culture, idiographic design activities must be done.
