Surat is one of the major textile manufacturing hubs in India, having 40% of the synthetic fabric produced in the country. The textile industry in the city has witnessed tremendous growth in the last decade, leading to many transportation-related changes within it. Textile manufacturing has different phases like weaving, processing, value addition and trading or distribution. These phases are located as clusters or pockets in different parts of the city. The scattered nature of the industry generates numerous freight trips. This study focuses on characterizing and estimating textile freight trips in the city. Establishment survey data was collected from production units located in various clusters. A multi-linear regression model for freight trips generated using the quantity of cloth produced was developed for the estimation of the total textile freight trips. Thus, this study will help the planner identify the strategic location of the textile and its allied industries as well as for freight infrastructure in the city. More so, it would help in understanding the impacts of textile freight movement on the city’s overall traffic.

Background: Duraplasty refers to the neurosurgical process of reconstructing dural defect. Variety of materials is used for such reconstruction, including natural, semisynthetic, and synthetic materials. Although synthetic materials are readily available and easy to apply, these are associated with foreign body reaction which may lead to serious consequences in some cases. We describe one such rare instance of extradural abscess after polypropylene synthetic fabric duraplasty. Case Description: Our patient is a 33-year-old lady who suffered road traffic accident leading to massive brain laceration, contusion of bilateral frontal lobes, and anterior skull base fractures. Emergency craniotomy was carried out and dural defect repaired with polypropylene (G-Patch; G. Surgiwear® Ltd.) synthetic fabric as the duraplasty material. Three months later, the patient presented with discharging wound at the incision site. Neuroimaging showed ring enhancing lesion in frontobasal extradural space with cutaneous extension. The lesion failed to heal despite intravenous antibiotics and surgery was planned. Intraoperatively, abscess was found between G-Patch and dura. Histopathology showed granulomatous foreign body reaction. The lesion healed after synthetic dura removal and abscess drainage. Conclusion: Although various materials are used for duraplasty, there is no clear consensus on what material should be used for dural repair. Synthetic materials are bio-inert, offer good handling and malleability. Polypropylene has been used safely for both single- and double-layered duraplasty. However, foreign body reaction may occur and very rarely present as extradural abscess. Randomized trials should be done to establish the safety and efficacy profile of commonly used duraplasty materials.

Hospital environment has factors that promote increased infections caused by microorganisms allowing them to remain viable for long periods on surfaces and fomites. The aim of our study was to identify the viability of Candida albicans in hospital environment common surfaces with biological fluids presence and disinfectants. Four surfaces (cotton fabric, synthetic fabric, egg crate foam mattress and, ceramic floor) were contaminated with a strain of Candida albicans ATCC 26790 and with an association of distilled water, blood, saliva and urine. Also, combinations of surfaces and fluids with addition of 70% alcohol and 2% sodium hypochlorite were tested. Viability was identified at 1, 3, 7, 14 and 21 days by Colony Forming Units counting. C. albicans presented 14 days viability in hospitals fabrics with absence of liquids and maintained this persistence under influence of distilled water and blood. It also showed low growth with urine addition and there was growth inhibition with 2% sodium hypochlorite while with 70% alcohol and blood there was persistence for up to 7 days in synthetic fabric and mattress. The understanding of these yeasts persistence in hospital surfaces and fomites is essential for a better delineation of protocols control the spread and these infections prevention in healthcare environments.

The article discusses trends in the textile industry, the pace and direction of use of synthetic fabric, key factors affecting the competitiveness of textile enterprises specializing in synthetic fibers. The necessary components are identified for the effective functioning and rapid entry into the world market of competitive enterprises in the textile industry of Russia. The paper addresses the problems of volatility of crude oil and the related instability in the price policy of synthetic fabric. The author concludes that it is necessary to actively stimulate and develop textile enterprises, considering the change in the oil market in 2020, as well as the current expansion of the use of synthetic fabrics.

Cement production is one of the most common man-made air pollutants. In this regard, the need for dust collection in this process is obvious. The article presents an analysis of the used designs of dust collection devices in the cement production of the Fergana region of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Methods of tissue filter regeneration are analyzed. The results of experimental studies on the state of synthetic fabric bag filters installed on air purifiers from dust and gas flows are presented. The choice of the standard size, design and the required number of fabric bag filters was made. For technical and economic reasons, there is a method and mode of filter regeneration that does not cause severe wear of the fabric, due to which the duration of filter operation without expensive stops for current repairs is significantly increased.
