Sexuality is an important component of holistic quality of life, and myocardial infarction (MI) negatively influences many aspects of sexuality, including sexual function. However, there is limited literature that examines sexuality beyond the most basic physical components. This pilot study aimed to describe the relationships between the physical, psychologic, and social domains of holistic sexuality at an early timepoint post-MI. Adult men post-MI were mailed self-report surveys at 2 weeks post discharge. Physical domains of sexuality were measured with the arousal, orgasm, erection, lubrication, and pain subscales of the Male Sexual Function Index (MSFI). The social domain utilized the sexual satisfaction subscale of the MSFI. The psychologic domain included the desire subscale of the MSFI and sexual fear (Multidimensional Sexuality Questionnaire). Spearman correlations were estimated to examine associations among the different measurement subscales. Twenty-four men post-MI were analyzed. Average scores on the MSFI were 9.2 ( SD 7.7). Desire and satisfaction were the highest scoring subscales among men when compared with other subscales (i.e. erection, lubrication). There was minimal evidence supporting a relationship between sexual fear and function. Additional research is also needed with larger samples, and among women post-MI.

Living in today’s complex social world can contribute to the development of a multi-faceted personal identity and to the risk of identity dispersion. This study focused on values, which are conceptualised as the core of one’s personal identity. It aimed to explore the within-person value consistency across relational roles (i.e., relationships with parents, partners, and friends) and to analyse the association between value consistency, self-concept clarity, and basic psychological needs satisfaction. One hundred ninety-five Italian young adults (F = 85%; Mage = 26.65, SD = 3.83) participated in the study. They completed the Values in Context Questionnaire, the Self-Concept Clarity Scale, and the satisfaction subscale from the Basic Needs Satisfaction and Frustration Scale. Findings showed high value consistencies across the relational roles. Specifically, consistency is higher when values as a partner and values as a friend are considered. Moreover, the relation between value consistency and basic psychological needs satisfaction was fully mediated by self-concept clarity. Limitations of the study, future research developments, and practical implications of the results are discussed.

A good practice environment is a vital aspect of the staffing and retention of health care workers, especially of nurses affecting patient care. This study investigates the predictors of nurses’ Professional Quality of Life working in public hospitals and private hospitals. A cross-sectional design was utilized, including 374 nurses conveniently sampling selected in two public hospitals and two private hospitals in the Philippines using a Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index and Professional Quality of Life scale having a good psychometric property, respectively. The overall mean score for practice environment for Nurses is at a low level, whereas the mean Professional Quality of Life score was at a moderate level. Age is significantly associated with the burnout subscale (r=-0.119, p<0.021) and with secondary traumatic stress (r=-0.193, p<0.001). Monthly salary is significantly associated with the compassion satisfaction subscale (r=-0.140, p=0.007) and STS (r=0.107, p=0.038). Meanwhile, the working hours' figure is significantly associated with compassion satisfaction subscale (r=-0.133, p=0.010). Finally, the practice environment of nurses shown is significantly associated with compassion satisfaction subscale (r=-0.426, p=0.007) and secondary traumatic stress (r=0.524, p<0.001). Filipino nurses have a lower practice environment and moderate professional quality of life. The predictors of the professional quality of life of nurses were age, monthly salary, working hours, and their practice environment. Specifically, the higher the salary and the shorter the working hours, the better their professional quality of life. Additionally, the poorer the practice environment, the lower the professional quality of life.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of schema therapy and schema-focused mindfulness therapy on marital communication among Iranian married women who lived in Malaysia from ‎2015 to 2016. The qualified participants were assigned randomly into three groups, i.e. two experimental groups which in order received schema therapy and schema-focused mindfulness therapy, and a control group which did not receive any treatment. The treatment sessions lasted nearly three months using marital satisfaction subscale from the ENRICH questionnaire, a demographic questionnaire and Young's schema questionnaire as the instruments. Two-way repeated measures ANOVA and ANCOVA were also employed for data analysis. The findings of the study revealed that schema therapy and schema-focused mindfulness therapy had a significant effect on marital communication of Iranian women in Malaysia. Moreover, the findings showed more improvement for schema-focused mindfulness therapy group at two months follow-up.

Background: Individualized care is closely related to the fulfillment of nurses’ ethical responsibilities regarding the provision of healthcare as well as having a strong foundation in the philosophy of nursing. Objective: This study aimed to determine the association of job satisfaction and burnout with individualized care perceptions in nurses working at a university hospital located in the Central Black Sea region of northern Turkey. Research design: A cross-sectional correlational survey design. Participants and research context: The study was conducted between 15 February 2017 and 15 August 2017 with 419 nurses working at a public university hospital located in Samsun. Data were collected using an information form, the Individualized Care Scale-Nurse Version, the Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory. The Mann–Whitney U test, Kruskal–Wallis test and Spearman Correlation were used. Ethical considerations: Ethical approval for the study was obtained from the Ondokuz Mayıs University Clinical Studies Board of Ethics. Oral informed consent was taken from the participants. Findings: There was a significant positive relationship between the total Individualized Care Scale-A Nurse Version score and the General Satisfaction subscale score of the Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale (r = 0.121, p < 0.05). The total Individualized Care Scale-A Nurse Version score increased as the General Satisfaction subscale score of the Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale increased. There was a significant negative relationship between the total Individualized Care Scale-B Nurse Version score and the Desensitization (r = –0.143, p < 0.01) and Personal Achievement subscale scores of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (r = –0.182, p < 0.01). The Desensitization and Personal Achievement subscale scores of the Maslach Burnout Inventory increased as the total Individualized Care Scale-B Nurse Version score decreased. Discussion: Factors associated with the individualized care perceptions of nurses, such as job satisfaction and burnout levels and factors related to personal life and worklife should be taken into consideration. Also in order to increase job satisfaction and motivation in nurses, personal preferences regarding the service they want to work at should be taken into account. Conclusion: Nurses with lower burnout and higher job satisfaction were found to have higher individualized care perceptions and to support the individuality of patients in care applications. It is important to consider work-related factors associated with individualized care perceptions, job satisfaction, and burnout in nurses.

A total of 124 high school students reported their explicit and implicit school satisfaction using the School Satisfaction Subscale (SSS) of the Adolescent's School Well-being Scale and the Single Category Implicit Association Test (SC-IAT). The results showed that gender and grade significantly influenced explicit – but not implicit – school satisfaction for senior high school students.

Background Pain management modalities that facilitate patient mobility may contribute to recovery after total hip replacement (THR) surgery. Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of morphine intravenous (IV) patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) and the fentanyl iontophoretic transdermal system (fentanyl ITS) on physical therapists' ability to complete care tasks for patients after THR. Design The data were from an open-label, randomized, multicenter, active-control phase IIIb clinical trial. Methods The settings were 52 US-based teaching and community hospitals. The patients were ≥18 years of age (mean [SEM]: 62.8 [0.6] years in the fentanyl ITS group and 62.9 [0.6] years in the morphine IV PCA group); had an American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status of I, II, or III; and were scheduled to undergo primary unilateral THR surgery. The patients were randomized to receive analgesia for up to 72 hours via the fentanyl ITS (40 μg of fentanyl over 10 minutes for up to 6 doses per hour for 24 hours or 80 doses per system, whichever occurred first) or morphine IV PCA (1-mg bolus doses [with a 5-minute lockout interval between doses] for up to 10 doses per hour for 24 hours). All patients received the usual treatment administered by physical therapists. After each therapy session, physical therapists completed a validated Physical Therapist Ease-of-Care Questionnaire, which included time efficiency and convenience subscales (lower scores indicated more positive responses) and a satisfaction subscale (a higher score indicated a more positive response). Therapists whose average scores were ≤2 on all items of the time efficiency and convenience subscales or ≥4 on both items of the satisfaction subscale were considered responders. Results Higher percentages of physical therapists were responders for the fentanyl ITS than for morphine IV PCA on the subscales that assessed time efficiency (84.9% and 59.1%, respectively), convenience (86.6% and 71.2%, respectively), and satisfaction (54.3% and 30.5%, respectively). Higher percentages of physical therapists favored the fentanyl ITS than favored morphine IV PCA. Limitations The trial was limited by its open-label design, and physical therapists were more familiar with IV PCA than with the fentanyl ITS. Conclusions The findings demonstrate benefits to physical therapists of using the fentanyl ITS over morphine IV PCA in terms of time efficiency, convenience, and satisfaction.
