This paper concentrates on the translation of the text-image interaction in postmodern and multimodalpic turebooks for children, as illustrated by the Polish translations of Hervé Tullet’s picturebooks. The sophisticated and artistic vision of this author-illustrator raises questions about methods and criteria to be adopted by anyone who wishes to translate the delicate balance between what is told by the verbal and pictured by the visual. In particular, as the present analysis reveals, the translator’s interventions in the original text-image interaction cannot be regarded as intersemiotic translation, but as undesired explicitation limiting the creative actions of the active child-reader.

Background. Despite evidence that social network members influence the eating behaviors of adults, no study to date has had the primary aim of examining children as support partners for parents in a weight loss intervention. Aim. To evaluate parent adherence with eating/exercise goals and weight loss in a 6-month study engaging children as support partners. Method. Adults with obesity (body mass index ≥ 30 kg/m2, n = 102) and at least one child ≥12 years were randomized to a child support or control group. In the child support group, children enrolled with their parent and engaged in a supportive behavior 2 days/week. In the control group, there was no enrolled child support. Parents in both groups selected a healthy eating strategy and daily step goal. Results. There was no difference in weight loss between the child support and control groups (−5.97 vs. −5.42 lbs, p = .81). In the child support group, 30% of children did not engage in the study. The majority of parents whose children did not engage withdrew from the study. In secondary analyses, parent adherence with eating/exercise goals increased with the days of child support ( p < .001). For all participants, low chaos in the home environment ( p < .04) and increased parent adherence with follow-ups ( p < .008) predicted weight loss. Conclusions. We found no treatment effect of child support on weight loss. Active child support of eating/exercise goals appeared to facilitate goal adherence, while anticipated but unrealized child support may have had iatrogenic consequences. Further investigation of family-focused weight loss interventions is warranted.

One aspect of physical-motor development in early childhood is the muscles that affect the development of strength and motor skills (rough and smooth) which can be increased through learning activities or play activities that are varied, creative, and fun in accordance with the character of an active child, dynamic and enthusiastic. Button play is an activity of playing using button media that has a variety of shapes, colors and sizes, which are carried out or packaged in various ways or strategies, including inserting buttons into bottles, rooting, connecting ribbons, attaching buttons according to their shape and color, moving buttons using tweezers, which is done by walking or running. The action research conducted in this class aims to find out the improvement of the child's physical-motor skills development through the button game approach which is carried out in two cycles. The technique used in data collection is through assessment guidelines and observation sheets. Data obtained from the results of research using statistical analysis methods and description analysis. The study was conducted on 15 children at an early age. Data from the results of research and analysis showed an increase in the development of physical-motor skills in children as subjects of the study. This shows that the button game can improve the development of physical-motor skills in the early childhood group.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of childhood physical activity (PA) on subsequent adult body mass. Using longitudinal data from the Saskatchewan Growth and Development Study (1964–73), PA, height, body mass and percent body fat were assessed on 207 males (age 7 years at study entry). Subjects were categorized into activity groups based on annual composite activity assessments. 58 participants returned during adulthood (between 39-41 years of age) when similar anthropometric measurements were taken. Childhood PA groupings were significantly related to adult BMI, but not body fat. The more active child had a greater BMI in adulthood (P<0.05). The results from this study indicate that the active child, in this sample, is not protected against overweight/obesity in adulthood.
