AbstractReconstructing intended speech from neural activity using brain-computer interfaces holds great promises for people with severe speech production deficits. While decoding overt speech has progressed, decoding imagined speech has met limited success, mainly because the associated neural signals are weak and variable compared to overt speech, hence difficult to decode by learning algorithms. We obtained three electrocorticography datasets from 13 patients, with electrodes implanted for epilepsy evaluation, who performed overt and imagined speech production tasks. Based on recent theories of speech neural processing, we extracted consistent and specific neural features usable for future brain computer interfaces, and assessed their performance to discriminate speech items in articulatory, phonetic, and vocalic representation spaces. While high-frequency activity provided the best signal for overt speech, both low- and higher-frequency power and local cross-frequency contributed to imagined speech decoding, in particular in phonetic and vocalic, i.e. perceptual, spaces. These findings show that low-frequency power and cross-frequency dynamics contain key information for imagined speech decoding.

The transmission and radiation of underground variable frequency electromagnetic waves will seriously interfere with the operation of the power cable and its surrounding environment. At present, the test methods for power cables basically require the impedance of the test system to match the characteristic impedance of the cable. The defect is that the process of designing and making the impedance matching impedance network is relatively complex and requires high manufacturing accuracy. In order to solve these problems, this paper puts forward the electromagnetic field fast detection formula and electromagnetic field shielding method of underground variable frequency power cable. The research method of this paper is the principle of shielding electromagnetic field materials and the suppression principle of shielding layer for electromagnetic coupling. The function of the two principles is to study the reflection, absorption, and multiple reflection of electromagnetic waves and to study the cut-off frequency of the nonmagnetic shielding layer. These two principles guide the experiment. In this paper, the measurement formula of the shielding performance of mismatched cables is derived through experiments. The results show that the error of the measurement formula is no more than 8 dB. Then, through the experiment of restraining the interference of magnetic materials on the electromagnetic field, it is concluded that the magnetic field shielding performance can reach 20 dB. Then, through the performance test of electromagnetic field shielding materials, the shielding efficiency of metal fiber antiradiation materials is the largest, and the average efficiency reaches 76.4 dB.

High-frequency power transformers are conducive to the reliable grid connection of distributed energy sources. Polyimide is often used for the coating insulation of high-frequency power transformers. However, creeping discharge will cause insulation failure, therefore, it is necessary to use disiloxane for the purpose of modifying the molecular structure of polyimide. This paper not only introduces 1,3-bis(3-aminopropyl)-1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane (GAPD) with a molar content of 1%, 2%, and 5% to polyimide, but also tests both the physical and chemical properties of the modified film and the high frequency creeping dielectric strength. The results show that after adding GAPD, the overall functional groups of the material do not change, at the same time the transfer complexation of intermolecular charge and the absorption of ultraviolet light increase. There is no phase separation of the material and the structure is more regular and ordered, moreover the crystallinity increases. The overall dielectric constant and the dielectric loss tangent value show different trends, which means that the former value increases, while the latter value decreases. In addition, the resistivity of the surface and the volume increase, which is the same as the glass transition temperature. The mechanical properties are excellent, and the strength of bulk breakdown is mounting. The insulation strength of the high frequency creeping surface has been improved, which will increase with larger contents of GAPD. Among them, the relative change of the creeping flashover voltage is not obvious, and the creeping discharge life of G5 is 4.77 times that of G0. Further analysis shows that the silicon-oxygen chain links of the modified film forms a uniformly dispersed Si-O-Si network in the matrix through chemical bonds and charge transfer complexation. Once the outer matrix is destroyed, it will produce dispersed flocculent inorganic particles which have the role of protecting the inner material and improving the performance of the material. Combined with the ultraviolet light energy absorption, the increase of deep traps, the reduction of dielectric loss, and the improvement of thermodynamic performance, can better improve the high-frequency creeping insulation strength of polyimide film and its potential application value.

Background and Aim: The medical treatment of horses with nephrosplenic entrapment (NSE) of the large colon through administrating phenylephrine and rolling during general anesthesia was effective and less expensive than surgical treatment. However, the selection of drugs for non-surgical treatment of NSE is not a usual method for clinical practice. This study aimed to identify the effects of combined drugs on the cardiac and splenic response in horses and provide information on the NSE of the large colon for clinical application. Materials and Methods: Six healthy Thai native crossbred horses were enrolled in this study. Horses received two protocols with a withdrawal period of 14 days: Group 1 received xylazine (0.5 mg/kg IV) and adrenaline (1 mcg/kg IV), and Group 2 received xylazine (0.5 mg/kg IV) and adrenaline (3 mcg/kg IV). Heart rate (HR), HR variability (HRV), heart dimensions, and the splenic response of six horses were measured before the sedation, 30 and 60 min later, and 65, 70, 75, 80, 90, and 100 min after adrenaline administration. Doppler was used to obtain systolic blood pressure. Results: The HRV low-frequency and high-frequency power ratios decreased after using xylazine. Hypertension was observed after adrenaline administration. In this study, there were only minimal differences in the HR and respiratory rate between groups. However, overall cardiac and splenic parameters were statistically higher in Group 2. Conclusion: This study suggested that xylazine and three micrograms of adrenaline preserved the cardiac autonomic activity balance and were safe to use non-surgical applicability in horses.

Conceiving planar magnetic components for power electronic converters is very constraining, especially in the case of prototype development. Indeed, such making requires skills, specific appliances as well as human time for setting up the machine tools and the fabrication process. With the emergence of Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab), conceiving of planar copper foil prototypes becomes more feasible in a shortened time process for engineers and researchers. This paper presents a methodology and process for conceiving power planar transformers with the help of machines and tools that can be found in the usual FabLab.

Background: Heart rate variability (HRV) and pulse rate variability (PRV) measures are two kinds of physiological indices that can be used to evaluate the autonomic nervous function of healthy subjects and patients with various kinds of illness.Purpose: In this study, we compared the agreement and linear relationship between electrocardiographic signals (ECG)-derived HRV and photoplethysmographic signals (PPG)-derived right hand PRV (R-PRV) and left hand PRV (L-PRV) measures in 14 patients over 1 year after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.Method: The ECG and PPG signals of the patient were recorded simultaneously for 10 min in a supine position. The last 512 stationary RR intervals (RRI) and peak-to peak intervals (PPI) of pulse wave were derived for data analysis. Bland-Altman plot was used to assess the agreement among HRV and both hand PRV measures, while linear regression analysis was used to examine the relationship among corresponding measures of HRV, R-PRV, and L-PRV.Result: The results revealed significant differences in total power (TP), very low-frequency power (VLF), low-frequency power (LF), high-frequency power (HF), and normalized VLF (VLFnorm) among HRV, R-PRV, and L-PRV. Bland-Altman plot analysis showed good agreements in almost all measures between R-PRV and L-PRV, except insufficient agreement was found in LF/HF. Insufficient agreements were found in root mean square successive difference (RMSSD), normalized HF (HFnorm), and LF/HF indices between HRV and L-PRV, and in VLFnorm, HFnorm, and LF/HF indices between HRV and R-PRV. Linear regression analysis showed that the HRV, R-PRV, and L-PRV measures were all highly correlated with one another (r = 0.94 ~ 1; p < 0.001).Conclusion: Though PRV measures of either hand are not surrogates of HRV measures, they might still be used to evaluate the autonomic nervous functions of CABG patients due to the moderate to good agreements in most time-domain and frequency-domain HRV measures and the strong and positive correlations among HRV and both hands PRV measures in CABG patients.

This paper proposes a method for synchronizing a grid inverter with the voltage of an on-board high-frequency power grid. The described synchronization method belongs to the adaptive methods, which use fuzzy logic in the process of estimating the fundamental component of the voltage. The synchronization system has been tuned to achieve the primary goal of achieving synchronization in the shortest possible time. This is to allow for the efficient energy fed from photovoltaic sources into the on-board grid at 400 Hz. The proposed method was implemented in the field programmable gate array (FPGA) based power converter controller and static and dynamic tests for harmonic, interharmonic and subharmonic voltage disturbances were performed. Dynamic tests for phase jump, frequency jump and sag of the on-board voltage were also performed. To evaluate the effectiveness of synchronization with high-frequency voltage, the grid current control system in the grid tied inverter was elaborated. Proper current waveforms at the perturbed voltage were recorded while identifying the effectiveness of power ripple suppression. The results obtained were compared with the enhanced phase locked loop (EPLL) synchronization method. Satisfactory test results confirmed the suitability of the proposed method in systems coupling the photovoltaic source to the on-board high-frequency power grid.
