Abstract Determination of the ship’s course width necessary for the ships safe operation is an urgent task due to the increase in the modern ships’ dimensions. The existing methods for assessing the fairway are calculated with a full re-positioning of the propulsion-rudder complex, according to the maximum drift angle. The vessel movement is considered to be steady, that is, the speed, the drift angles do not depend on time. The relevance of this study is associated with the assessment of determining the width of the fairway at any time interval. This is due to the fact that when passing the river sections, the vessels perform maneuvering with the rudder gear shifted for short periods of time and not at the maximum shift angle. Determination of the parameters of the ship’s movement over time when the navigator manipulates the ship’s controls (control of the rudder device, changing the parameters of the main engines) can be determined by the mathematical model of the ship’s movement. This article discusses the issues of creating a model that adequately describe the processes of vessel movement, including in the conditions of vessel movement along a limited ship’s course. The adequacy of the model was verified using the data of field and model experiments. According to the compiled mathematical model, the calculations were made for various projects of dry cargo ships.

The paper examined Ti3C2Tx MXene (T—OH, Cl or F), which is prepared by etching a layered ternary carbide Ti3AlC2 (312 MAX-phase) precursor and deposited on a polycaprolactone (PCL) electrospun membrane (MXene-PCL nanocomposite). X-ray Diffraction analysis (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) indicates that the obtained material is pure Ti3C2 MXene. SEM of the PCL-MXene composite demonstrate random Ti3C2 distribution over the nanoporous membrane. Results of capacitance, inductance, and phase shift angle studies of the MXene-PCL nanocomposite are presented. It was found that the frequency dependence of the capacitance exhibited a clear sharp minima in the frequency range of 50 Hz to over 104 Hz. The frequency dependence of the inductance shows sharp maxima, the position of which exactly coincides with the position of the minima for the capacitance, which indicates the occurrence of parallel resonances. Current conduction occurs by electron tunneling between nanoparticles. In the frequency range from about 104 Hz to about 105 Hz, there is a broad minimum on the inductance relationship. The position of this minimum coincides exactly with the position of the maximum of the phase shift angle—its amplitude is close to 90°. The real value of the inductance of the nanocomposite layer was determined to be about 1 H. It was found that the average value of the distance over which the electron tunnels was determined with some approximation to be about 5.7 nm and the expected value of the relaxation time to be τM ≈ 3 × 10−5 s.

Polymer composites have been widely used as damping materials in various applications due to the ability of reducing the vibrations. However, the environmental and surrounding thermal exposure towards polymer composites have affected their mechanical properties and lifecycle. Therefore, this paper presents the effect of material-temperature dependence on the loss factor and phase shift angle characteristics. Two types of unageing and aging silicone-rubber-based magnetorheological elastomer (SR-MRE) with different concentrations of carbonyl iron particles (CIPs), 30 and 60 wt%, are utilized in this study. The morphological, magnetic, and rheological properties related to the loss factor and phase shift angle are characterized using a low-vacuum scanning electron microscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometer and rheometer, respectively. The morphological analysis of SR-MRE consisting of 30 wt% CIPs revealed a smoother surface area when compared to 60 wt% CIPs after thermal aging due to the improvement of CIPs dispersion in the presence of heat. Nevertheless, the rheological analysis demonstrated inimitable rheological properties due to different in-rubber structures, shear deformation condition, as well as the influence of magnetic field. No significant changes of loss factor occurred at a low CIPs concentration, whilst the loss factor increased at a higher CIPs concentration. On that basis, it has been determined that the proposed changes of the polymer chain network due to the long-term temperature exposure of different concentrations of CIPs might explain the unique rheological properties of the unaged and aged SR-MRE.

Abstract Introduction. In newborns with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), the mediastinal shift caused by the herniated organs negatively affects lung development. Assessment of the fetal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) mediastinal shift angle (MSA) was shown to have an inverse correlation with the total fetal lung volume (TFLV), being associated with neonatal survival. However, a possible association with postnatal morbidity has never been investigated. We hypothesize that the degree of the mediastinal shift could be associated with higher respiratory and cardiocirculatory impairment, requiring intensive treatments and extended hospitalization in survivors.Method. We retrospectively consider a cohort of isolated, left-sided CDH, for whom we calculated the MSA and the observed/expected (O/E) TFLV at fetal MRI. We performed a data collection regarding inotropic or vasoactive support, treatment with pulmonary vasodilators, mechanical ventilation, and length of stay. General linear models were performed. Results. The MSA and O/E TFLV were inversely correlated (Pearson’s coefficient -0.65, p < 0.001) and deceased patients showed higher MSA values then survivors (p = 0.011). Among survivors, an increase in MSA was associated with longer pharmacological treatments (dobutamine: p = 0.016; dopamine: p = 0.049; hydrocortisone: p = 0.003; nitric oxide: p = 0.002; sildenafil: p = 0.039; milrinone: p = 0.039; oxygen: p = 0.066), and mechanical ventilation (p = 0.005), with an increasing trend in the length of hospitalization (p = 0.089). Conclusions. The MSA indirectly reflects lung hypoplasia and is associated with the higher neonatal intensity of cares. Further studies are needed to consolidate the results. Clinical Trial Registration: The study is an exploratory post-hoc analysis of the registered NeoAPACHE protocol at ClinicalTrials.gov with the identifier NCT04396028

In this paper, an intelligent digital low voltage power factor optimizer has been built. This power factor optimizer operates according to the measurement the value of phase shift angle between both of current and voltage, thus the power factor has been measured. It is simply that it will improve the power factor through connecting a set of shunt capacitors in order to reach to an optimal value of the power factor (close to unity). The proposed intelligent digital power factor optimizer for low voltage is built and simulated using the software which is called electronic work bench package (EWB) Multisim. Finally, this optimizer presents a good result when applied to different loads and variable currents. This optimizer is feasible, affordable and ready to be implemented especially in countries that suffer from higher prices of electrical power.
