The following study is dedicated to the analysis of a collection of internet memes as media products of discursive and humorous practices. The intertextuality of a meme is required criteria that must be present in its discursive, epistemological and aesthetic value; if the meme does not have this quality, it essentially has no chance of being put into use, gaining the status of a precedential phenomenon, and integrating into the culture altogether. Internet practices of humorous discussion reflect the main characteristics of society’s valuative and emotional response to the formed global pandemic situation. The main linguistic and discursive features of this response are intertextuality, interdiscursivity, polycody, and the use of language/word play, among which the most frequently used in this internet collection turned out to be the strategic utilization of absurdity and reframing-based linguocognitive play. Comic effects are achieved in most cases due to knowledge of precedential phenomena, which is why many memes are difficult to decode for those who are uninformed.

The aim of the article is to present the theoretical problems of researching the role of assessment in the verbalization of human emotions. In linguistics, a very small number of studies are devoted to the conceptualization of emotions in the axiological aspect. The author proves that hedonistic and moral assessments are most often present in the conceptualization of feelings. Moral assessment characterizes the actions and intentions of a person, and his attitude towards other people from the point of view of good and evil. In the verbalization of emotions, it is expressed with the help of epithets that are combined with the names of feelings, as well as through the linguistic representation of close or polar feelings. Hedonistic assessment characterizes the feeling of the subject of emotion on a scale of «pleasant/unpleasant». In the verbalization of emotions, it is expressed through metaphorical descriptions that represent conceptual signs and associative images of feelings.

The aim of the present review is the discussion of a monograph entitled “Selected issues from glotto-and translodidactics” edited by Artur Dariusz Kubacki and Katarzyna Sowa-Bacia. The work consists of six articles, of which the first three cover teaching foreign language in kindergarten, a summary of the functioning of a chosen teaching college, and linguistic aspects of teaching the German language at a Faculty of German Philology. The remaining three articles, presented in the second part of the work, focus on translation didactics, in particular on the Kussmaul cognitive model, the competencies of an academic translation teacher, and the non-academic schooling of prospective sworn translators in Poland. The article’s intention is to present practicalism in academic research in the discussed monograph.

There is a common belief that proper names are not to be translated. The author traced the transfer of urbanonyms in French translations of two Polish crime novels set in contemporary Warsaw. The analysis has been based on the techniques of translating proper names by K. Hejwowski (2004, 2015). The dominant techniques used in various categories of urbanonyms have been distinguished (simple transfer, transfer with spelling modification, translation). In the case of street names, avenues and squares derived from surnames, translators use inflectional neutralization. Another frequent technique is to add the qualifiers rue (‘street’) and quartier (‘district’) to the names of streets and neighbourhoods. In Polish, they are often omitted, which, in the case of street names, is unacceptable in French. Moreover, several techniques allowing removing a proper name or to replace it with a common noun have also been detected. All in all, the techniques applied for translating urbanonyms make it easier for the French recipient to follow the threads of the novel and to read foreign names. However, they deprive him/her of contact with some features of foreign names’ strangeness that characterize a different cultural area.

The aim of the article is to analyze a number of issues related to the topic of stress in the work of a language teacher, and to focus on those moments that are particularly strongly influenced by stress, in many cases causing forms of learners’ functioning to be affected by the teacher’s stress. The techniques used in the article are based on the meta-analysis format and the proposal of a stricter implementation of divergent work procedures during the language lesson. The proposals presented in the conclusion should result not only in a deeper involvement of students in the contents of the lesson, but also a generally lower level of stress load affecting the actions of both the language teacher and his/her students.

Routine formulas represent an essential challenge for foreign language teaching as a compound of typical communicative situations due to speech acts (in maintaining new and old business contacts, expressing emotions, and discourse organization), and as an important element of pragmatic language competence. The main subject of the reflection is the selection and presentation of formulaic expressions in selected course books for business German as a foreign language which are used in the academic context. In particular, the fields of business correspondence, business phone calls, and other common communicative situations were analyzed, as well as exercises and other didactic activities aimed at developing business foreign language skills.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the concept of “Russia”, which is characteristic for Russian political discourse, and the ways it is verbalized in the official programs of political parties. The study material covered the election programs of the 11 biggest Russian political parties, published on their official websites. The study included an analysis of lexical units used to realize the concept of “Russia” and the expressions associated with them. It was found that the verbalization of this concept is realized by means of an array of different lexical units, neutral and those carrying an emotional load, which may invoke in voters positive connotations related to patriotic feelings and a sense of pride. Such lexemes are accompanied by a number of different expressions which serve the integrative function, emphasize the significance of Russia among other countries and its great future, and refer to basic values and the basic psychological needs of inhabitants of the country
