Issues management in today’s quickly changing world can be complex and unpredictable, and in the case of the spread of Ebola, carry lethal implications. Kaiser Permanente (KP) faced a potential internal crisis due to the involvement of medical staff during the spread of the disease in the United States. In addition, KP needed to ensure the safety of the patients the healthcare provider serves. This case study examines how the corporate communications team at KP in Southern California communicated the necessary messages during this crisis in the U.S. in the fall of 2014. The methodology of this case is a textual analysis of the internal corporate communications within Kaiser Permanente during the 2014 Ebola outbreak in the U.S.

Indonesia has around 20.11 million hectares of tidal swamp land area and about 2.07 million hectare is tidal swamp potential. The results of the inventory report BPTP Lampung in 2012 revealed that the area of swamp land in Lampung Province 108 thousand ha consisting of 56 thousand ha of tidal swamp and 52 thousand ha of lowland swamp. The main issues management of tidal swamp land is the water level always changing and the sulfidic or pyrite layer. Application water system design are good enough to prevent it. The rain distribution on Rawapitu about 39-531 mm during 2013-2014 and there were 2-3 month dry season. The fluctuation of water level on piezometer showed that the areal flooded on December 2013 and April 2014. It has affected the oil palm growth although increasing the number of frond, rachis length, and leaf area indeks.

Abstract Thermal issues management is a daily design challenge for teams working with analog mixed-signal technologies such as “SmartMOS”, with the integration of analog circuitry, high power density devices and logic control. A case study based on an NXP new product introduction will illustrate the use of Thermography as a complementary technique to standard Design debug activities, leading to the demonstration of a thermal crosstalk phenomenon in the analyzed analog mixed signal device. Based on InfraRed Thermography principle and specific Trigger Delay and Thermal Mapping modes, a transient thermal event was fully characterized, in addition to more common techniques such as Design and Layout study, electrical characterization, simulation, Microprobing, and Thermal Laser Stimulation. The added value of the thermography, as well as the limitations of the technique, will be discussed in that paper.

The purpose of this article is to develop a framework of how organizing committees operationally evolve and the types of issues with which they and their stakeholders must deal. Based on a combination of stakeholder theory and issues management, a case study of the 1999 Pan American Games held in Winnipeg, Canada, was built using archival material and interviews. Three major organizing-committee operational modes emerged: planning, implementation, and wrap-up. Issue categories faced by the organizing committee and its stakeholders included politics, visibility, financial, organizing, relationships, operations, sport, infrastructure, human resources, media, interdependence, participation, and legacy. Issue-category prominence depended on the operational mode and organizing-committee member hierarchical level, such that issues became less strategic and broad as one moved through operational modes or down the hierarchy. Issue categories also differed within stakeholder groups, whereas stakeholder interests (material, political, affiliative, informational, and symbolic) differed between stakeholder groups.

Pakistan is the 6th most populous country in the world. Owing to limited resources, some part of the population lives at an extreme poverty level. The public education system does not fulfil the needs of society. NGOs exist in developing countries in a large number and assist the government in a non-official capacity to contribute to the development of the country. They have to face a large number of challenges. There is a need to investigate the effectiveness of the initiatives completed by different NGOs. The research was based on a mixed-method approach. The design of the study was a case study. Data was collected after the completion of the initiatives of the selected cases. Multiple instruments were used to collect the data. The data of one initiative shows that it is not completed effectively, and the score of the other initiative shows that it is completed effectively. The members faced societal resistance, funding issues. Management of staff, communication gap, overload of work, the willingness of teachers, lack of interest of school staff and accountability issues and different government issues for the relevance of the initiative that must fulfil the needs of the society.

AbstractUsing interviews with former militants and previously unpublished documents, this article traces the genesis and internal dynamics of the Ejército Revolucionario del Pueblo (People's Revolutionary Army, ERP) in El Salvador during the early years of its existence (1970–6). This period was marked by the inability of the ERP to maintain internal coherence or any consensus on revolutionary strategy, which led to a series of splits and internal fights over control of the organisation. The evidence marshalled in this case study sheds new light on the origins of the armed Salvadorean Left and thus contributes to a wider understanding of the processes of formation and internal dynamics of armed left-wing groups that emerged from the 1960s onwards in Latin America.

Abstract Culture shapes our basic sensory experience of the world. This is particularly striking in the study of religion and psychosis, where we and others have shown that cultural context determines both the structure and content of hallucination-like events. The cultural shaping of hallucinations may provide a rich case-study for linking cultural learning with emerging prediction-based models of perception.
