In this study we examine the determinants of and the relationship among economic knowledge, epistemological beliefs, and extrinsic and intrinsic motivation over the course of undergraduate studies in a sample of students of business and economics at a university in Germany. We found economic knowledge increased over the course of studies, extrinsic and intrinsic motivation declined, and students became more skeptical in their epistemological beliefs about the objectivity of economic content being taught in their courses. The students’ level of economic knowledge was related to intrinsic motivation but unrelated to extrinsic motivation and epistemological beliefs. Furthermore, the students’ tendency to become more skeptical over the course of their studies was mitigated by high levels of extrinsic motivation. The use of internationally established assessments such as the Test of Economic Literacy, developed by the Council of Economics Education, enables implications for higher education business and economics programs at the international level to be drawn from our findings.

<p><em>We used the moderate-magnitude aftershocks succeeding to the 2016 August 24<sup>th</sup>, Mw = 6.0, Amatrice (Italy) mainshok to asses, specially during an ongoing seismic sequence, the soil-structure interaction where cultural Heritage is involved. We have chosen as case study the</em><em> San Giovanni Battista</em><em> church (A.D. 1039)  in Acquasanta Terme town, about 20 Km northeast of Amatrice. First of all we studied the soil shaking features in order to characterize the input to the monument. Then, using the recordings in the church, we tried to figure out  how the input seismic energy is distributed over the different monument parts. Some preliminary results are shown and discussed.</em></p><p><em><br /></em></p>

This paper presents a protocol used in case studies with the objective to validate a Lean Production methodology in Textile and Clothing Industry (TCI) in North of Portugal. The methodology was developed under a Doctoral Program on Industrial Engineering and Systems. During the development of the methodology, the TCI contextualization was studied in parallel with the development of a survey applied to the TCI companies. The development of the methodology (structured in three phases) was followed by its validation in case studies. Thus, this paper objective is to describe and explain the case study designed and conducted to attain feedback from companies. These case studies demanded a protocol constituted by an overview of the project, the field procedures (meetings and visits, interviews, questionnaires and checklist form), the preliminary questions of the project and the guide for the reports from the case studies. From the field procedures, the interviews was the first instrument used and it allowed the identification of the needs of change, the workers and management role in this change, the expected and achieved results. These preliminary results are presented in this paper. The questionnaire, adapted from others studies, would be used for a better context in the national framework and it would be applied in a following phase as the checklist. It will enable the data and metrics collection related with several aspects, namely work ergonomic conditions. This protocol will allow the knowledge of the work environment for a good implementation of the Lean Production.

Abstract Economic education is crucial in a modern economy where the knowledge makes for one of many resources. However not only the curriculum matters and the passed contents, but also applied teaching methods. The method related to Case Study may provide a good tool for economy and entrepreneurship teaching, as it focuses not only on the problem, but also on a student and takes into account teamwork. This method facilitates the analysis of enterprising attitude and economic practice, whereas shaping the soft competences stimulates knowledge transmission, facilitates knowledge assimilation and may contribute to development of enterprising attitude.

AbstractThe initial mass function (IMF) is a profoundly studied subject, however its origin is still unclear and heavily disputed. The Core Mass Function (CMF) has a remarkable resemblance to a shifted IMF along the mass axis of a factor of 3. This CMF has been observed amongst others in the Pipe Nebula, a calm molecular cloud at approximately 130 pc. We study the origin of the CMF under the assumption that collisions and merging of prestellar cores shape the CMF. We present our preliminary results of core collisions for the well known FeSt 1-457.
