The present research examines the abilitv to detect and identify particular changes between successive pictorial scenes. This investigation focussed on two particular types of change in complex black and white pictures: the addition of objects or patterns, or the deletion of similar objects or patterns in a successivly presented picture. In Experiment 1, additions were found to be more easilv identified than deletions but only for pattern changes and not for objects. This difference decreased in magnitude with a longer interval between pictures of a pair. A potential problem with this experiment is that subjects were required to report five changes per picture pair and systematic output competition effects may have interacted with picture memory as a function of delav. In Experiment 2 the picture pairs contained only one change. The results showed that additions were more often detected than deletions and object changes more often than pattern changes. A planned comparison revealed that the detection of pattern-additions were significantly better than the detection of pattern-deletions. Experiment 3 again replicated this finding. The results of this research are discussed in terms of a dual-code theory and its utility in a variety of applied settings.

The quality evaluation of English classroom teaching carries great significance in promoting English teaching reform and raising the quality of English education at university level in China. In this paper, a quality evaluation index system is introduced for the classroom teaching of English as a foreign language (EFL), and an EFL classroom teaching quality evaluation model is built based on the PSO-ELM algorithm with an ELM model constructed for comparison. A comparison shows that the PSO-ELM algorithm can obtain better accuracy with less hidden layer neurons, hence lowering the demand upon experiment samples and strengthening the fitting ability of the model. Experiment results show that the PSO-ELM algorithm is feasible to evaluate classroom teaching of English as a foreign language. The designed English classroom teaching quality evaluation index system is thus confirmed as effective, and is expected to improve the quality and management of classroom teaching of English as a foreign language.

Some of them have ever made classroom action research and know its procedure. All of them expect the government not to put pressure on English teachers to make classroom action research as the requirement unless they will get sanction due to the fact that it is instructed by the Education and Culture ministry. The conclusion is classroom action research has been a big concern among English teachers in Ciamis. The suggestion then goes to all English teachers to conduct classroom action research as an action to develop their teaching quality not to gain the government reward. Keywords: classroom action research, English teachers, teachers’ perception

The English departments in colleges and universities are the training center of professional English talents. Their teaching quality bears on the international exchanges and economic development. Through questionnaire survey, interview, and literature review, this paper designed an evaluation index system (EIS) for teaching quality assessment of English departments in colleges and universities, which consists of 19 indexes. Specifically, the collected data was computed and sorted out through factor analysis, and the common factors were extracted, forming an EIS containing 19 secondary indices and 5 primary indices. Next, a weight was assigned to each index in the EIS. Taking the English departments of 3 higher educational schools in a province for example, an empirical analysis was carried out to verify the application effect of our EIS on the teaching quality of college English education. The results demonstrated the scientific nature, reasonability, and feasibility of the proposed EIS. The research enriched the theoretical and practical evidences for the teaching quality assessment of college English education, and promotes the teaching quality assessment of college English department.
