In the study, methoxy polyethyleneglycol (MPEG) linked chitosan (PLC) with a different degrees of substitution were prepared using a novel yet simple method in the presence of formaldehyde in a solvent of formic acid and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). The obtained PLC was verified by the Fourier transformed infrared (FT-IR) and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance (13C-NMR) spectroscopy and by the gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The aqueous solubility of chitosan increased after chemically linking with MPEG and was found to depend on its degree of substitution. With a proper degree of substitution of MPEG on chitosan, PLC may undergo inter- and/or intra-molecular entanglements to produce nanoaggregates. The critical aggregation concentration (CAC) of PLC was determined by the fluorescence emission spectra of pyrene and was found to be 0.003 mg/ml. Measurements of the size distribution and zeta potential of the prepared nanoaggregates were carried out using a Zetasizer. The results suggested that as the degree of MPEG substitution increased, the size and polydispersity index of the prepared nanoaggregates decreased. The prepared nanoaggregates showed a pH-sensitive property and thus may be suitable for the development of drug delivery devices for tumors.

We report herein, the synthesis, and spectral and electrochemical characterization of a series of phthalocyaninato zinc complexes where two biomedically potential structures; crown ether and phthalocyanine moities were gathered on the same molecule. The effect of number of crown ether moieties on metal ion binding properties, as well as proton sensitivity were investigated by using electronic absorption and fluorescence emission spectra. Spectral behaviors of the zinc phthalocyanine complexes fused with one crown ether; Zn [ Pc (15 C 5)( C 6 H 13)6] and four crown ether; Zn [ Pc (15 C 5)4] in presence of Na + and K + ions were investigated into detail because of host-guest interactions of subjective ions with crown ether moieties, and compared with the crown ether free phthalocyanine; Zn [ Pc ( C 6 H 13)8].

AbstractAn efficient Knoevenagel route using green chemistry conditions was applied for the synthesis of halogen- and cyano- substituted pyridinevinylene compounds. Absorption and fluorescence emission spectra of these conjugated compounds were recorded and compared in order to evaluate the effect of substituents on the electronic properties of pyridinevinylene compounds. The substituents studied were terminal Cl and F, two or three aromatic rings, as well as a cyano group attached to a C=C double bond. The compounds synthesized are: (E)-2-(4-fluorostyryl)pyridine, (E)-2-(4-chlorostyryl)pyridine, (E)-4-(4-chlorostyryl)pyridine, 2,3-diphenylacrylonitrile, 3-phenyl-2-(pyridin-2-yl)acrylonitrile, 3-phenyl-2-(pyridin-3-yl)acrylonitrile, 2-phenyl-3-(pyridin-2-yl)acrylonitrile, 3,3′-(1,4-phenylene)bis(2-phenylacrylonitrile), 3,3′-(1,4-phenylene)bis(2-(pyridin-2-yl)acrylonitrile), and 3,3′-(1,4-phenylene)bis(2-(pyridin-3-yl)acrylonitrile). The solvent-free method used in this work allows obtaining each compound by controlling the reaction temperature. The compounds were characterized by infrared spectroscopy and 1H-NMR spectroscopy.

AbstractMolar masses, Mark-Houwink-Sakurada (MHS) exponents, and refractive index increments (dn/dc) for three lignins were determined without derivatization by multi-detector gel permeation chromatography (GPC) in dimethylformamide (DMF) with 0.05 M lithium bromide (LiBr). The lack of effectiveness of fluorescence filters on molar mass determination by GPC-multi-angle laser light scattering (MALS) was confirmed for softwood kraft lignin (Indulin AT) and revealed for mixed hardwood organosolv lignin (Alcell) as well as soda straw/grass lignin (Protobind 1000). GPC with viscometry detection confirmed that these lignins were present as compact molecules. The MHS exponent α for Indulin AT and Alcell was in the order of 0.1. Additionally, the intrinsic viscosity of Protobind 1000 for a given molar mass was much lower than that of either Alcell or Indulin AT. This is the first report of dn/dc values for these three lignins in DMF with 0.05 M LiBr.

Zinc nitride films were deposited by ion sources-assisted magnetron sputtering with the use of Zn target (99.99% purity) on 7059 glass substrates. The films were characterized by XRD, SEM and EDS, the results of which show that the polycrystalline zinc nitride thin film can be grown on the glass substrates, the EDS spectrum confirmed the chemical composition of the films and the SEM images revealed that the zinc nitride thin films have a dense structure. Ultraviolet-visible-near infrared spectrophotometer was used to study the transmittance behaviors of zinc nitride thin films, which calculated the optical band gap by Davis Mott model. The results of the fluorescence emission spectra show the zinc nitride would be a direct band gap semiconductor material.

A natural moor soil humic acid (HA) was labeled with Tc-99m via reduction of pertechnetate with stannous chloride. The humic acid species obtained were characterized by thin layer chromatography (TLC), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), sequential chromatographic analysis (SCA), paper electrophoresis and micropore filtration. Labeling was found to take place in all ranges of molecular weight. Due to the complex humic acid composition and the formation of hydroxo species the labeling yields strongly depend on the separation conditions, ranging from 42% to 80%. The pH-dependent distribution of mobile and immobile species was determined by SCA for HTcO
