Dental professionals have a major role in the fight against the spread and transmission of COVID-19. This study aimed to evaluate awareness and practice of dentists in Saudi Arabia regarding COVID-19 and the utilization of infection control methods. A 24-item questionnaire was developed and distributed through social media to 627 dentists working in Saudi Arabia. 177 questionnaires were completed (28.2% response rate). Most dentists were aware about the transmission, incubation time and main clinical symptoms of COVID-19. Almost 83% of the respondents appreciate the risk of droplets, aerosols and airborne particles in transmission of COVID-19 in the dental clinic. Among the common practices of participants are measuring patient’s body temperature before undertaking a dental treatment (88.7%), cleaning the environmental surfaces at the dental clinic after each patient (91.5%) and restriction of dental treatment to emergency cases (82.5%). It seems that practicing dentists in Saudi Arabia are fairly aware about COVID-19. The practices of the surveyed dentists appear to be mostly consistent with the current guidelines and recommendations for infection control of COVID-19 in the dental clinic. Some drawbacks in knowledge and a number of inappropriate practices can be identified and require the attention of health authorities.

Menopause can occur spontaneously (natural menopause) or it can be surgically induced by oophorectomy. The symptoms and complications related to menopause differ from one patient to another. We aimed to review the similarities and differences between natural and surgically induced menopause by analyzing the available data in literature regarding surgically induced menopause and the current guidelines and recommendations, the advantages of bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy in low and high risk patients, the effects of surgically induced menopause and to analyze the factors involved in decision making.

Object Positional plagiocephaly (PP) has been on the rise in recent years. In this review, the authors' aim was to assess the effectiveness of current recommendations to parents on this exceedingly common problem through a comprehensive literature search. Additionally, the current treatment options and the most recent studies on PP are reviewed. Methods A search of the existing literature was conducted to obtain all relevant studies on guidelines, recommendations, parental and clinician practices, and epidemiological aspects. Results Although the incidence and risk factors for PP have been well delineated, there continues to be debates on its management and association with developmental delays. Current guidelines and recommendations on prevention set by the American Association of Pediatrics may not be easily followed by both parents and clinicians. There is also evidence that certain populations, including those with lower education, socioeconomic status, and in particular geographic regions may be more affected by the condition. Additionally, the marketing and financial aspects of PP treatments exist and should be addressed. Conclusions Better awareness and education are necessary to inform the population as a whole, although certain populations should be given special attention. Additionally, current guidelines and recommendations can be modified to foster a better grasp of the condition by both parents and clinicians. Adjusting current recommendations, introducing initiatives, and offering elaborate educational campaigns would help deliver these aims. Educating parents on PP as early as possible through clearer guidelines and close monitoring is central to preventing and managing this common condition.

Seizures can be a presenting feature of acute stroke. They may complicate its early clinical course or be a late complication or sequel. The incidence of combined “early” and “late” seizures after stroke has been reported to be approximately 10% and the prevalence is of 2-4%. Mechanisms leading to post stroke seizures and chronic epilepsy, in both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, are diverse. Focal slowing or diffuse slowing activities, rhythmic slow waves are associated with a low risk of early onset seizures whereas focal spikes, sharp waves, periodic lateralized, or periodic bilateral discharges are associated with a higher risk. There are no randomised controlled trials performed in stroke patients evaluating management strategies for poststroke seizures and epilepsy. Treatment options should be extrapolated from those of epilepsy in general, taking into consideration hepatic and renal function, tolerability, costs, interactions between antiepileptic drugs (AED), interactions with antithrombotic and other treatments. However, randomised controlled trials of AED prophylaxis for acute and remote seizures are essential to improve the evidence level of current guidelines and recommendations for the management of post-stroke seizures

Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a well-established renal replacement therapy for end-stage renal disease patients. Nonetheless, on an annual basis, at least 10% of patients shift from PD to hemodialysis for a variety of reasons. Thus the issue of vascular access creation needs to be addressed for this small but significant group of patients. Despite the relatively consistent number of dropouts, the creation of an arteriovenous fistula prior to transfer remains suboptimal, and variable from center to center. Literature for this specific area is poor and dated. Guidelines seem to suggest vascular access creation in high-risk failure patients, but they have no detailed criteria to select patients that would likely fail PD and therefore take advantage of a backup access. There is a need to better understand and predict patients that require conversion to hemodialysis to develop a plan that focuses on wellness and maximum quality of life in the lifecycle of PD patients. This review addresses the issue of vascular access planning in adult PD patients, presents the available literature on the topic and the current guidelines and recommendations, and describes a research agenda to guide decision making in clinical practice.

The role of physical activity in the prevention of stroke is of great interest due to the high mortality and significant impact of stroke-related morbidity on the individual and on healthcare resources. The use of physical activity as a therapeutic strategy to maximise functional recovery in the rehabilitation of stroke survivors has a growing evidence base. This narrative review examines the existing literature surrounding the use of exercise and physical therapy in the primary and secondary prevention of stroke. It explores the effect of gender, exercise intensities and the duration of observed benefit. It details the most recent evidence for physical activity in improving functional outcome in stroke patients. The review summaries the current guidelines and recommendations for exercise therapy and highlights areas in which further research and investigation would be useful to determine optimal exercise prescription for effective prevention and rehabilitation in stroke.
