A batata-doce (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.) tem sido reportada como uma das espécies de planta com grande capacidade de converter biomassa em matéria prima para produção de etanol. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o potencial de clones de batata-doce para produção de etanol. Foram avaliados 60 clones de batata-doce para produtividade de raízes, teor de amido nas raízes, produtividade de amido, coloração da casca e da polpa e o rendimento de etanol. O clone BDTO#122,32 e as cultivares Ana Clara e Carolina Vitória com média de 46,77; 42,75 e 41,25 t ha-¹, respectivamente, foram os que mais conseguiram acumular biomassa na forma de raiz. Os clones que apresentam as maiores médias de produtividade de amido por hectare foram BDTO#144.22 e BDTO#100.23, com valores de 15,46 e 14,16% t ha-1, com rendimentos de etanol de 8,33 e 7,63 m³ ha-¹. Os clones BDTO#144.22 e BDTO#100.23 apresentaram as maiores médias de produtividade de amido por hectare e rendimento de etanol, sendo, portanto, os mais promissores para a produção de etanol.Palavras-chave: Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam, melhoramento genético, seleção, biocombustível. POTENTIAL OF EXPERIMENTAL CLONES OF SWEET POTATO FOR ETHANOL PRODUCTION ABSTRACT:Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.) Has been reported as one of the plant species with great ability to convert biomass into feedstock for ethanol production. The objective of this work was to evaluate the potential of sweet potato clones for ethanol production. Twenty-six sweet potato clones were evaluated for root productivity, root starch content, starch yield, bark and pulp color, and ethanol yield. Clone BDTO # 122.32 and cultivars Ana Clara and Carolina Vitória averaging 46.77; 42.75 and 41.25 t ha-1, respectively, were the ones that were able to accumulate biomass in the root form. The clones presenting the highest starch productivity per hectare were BDTO # 144.22 and BDTO # 100.23, with values of 15.46 and 14.16% t ha-1, with ethanol yields of 8.33 and 7.63 m³ ha-¹. The clones BDTO # 144.22 and BDTO # 100.23 showed the highest averages of starch productivity per hectare and yield of ethanol, thus being the most promising for the production of ethanol.Keywords: Ipomoea potatoes (L.) Experimenting new technology of cultivating maize is an important step forward in order to optimise the yielding capacity if a crop that ranks second among crops cultivated worldwide and first among crops cultivated in Romania. Using low frequency radiations to stimulate yield and quality in maize allows increases in yield between 10 and 15% compared to the classical cultivation method and an improvement of the quality indicators (protein content increased with 6-11% determining an increase of the protein yield per ha; starch content increased with 7-14%, which also determined an increase of the starch yield per ha; while fat content, another indicator we monitored, increased with 2-6%).

Fourteen one-year N- and K-fertilization experiments for potato were carried out on coarse mineral soils on different sites in Finland. The nitrogen fertilization (from 50 to 156 kg/ha N) was given in the form of ammonium nitrate limestone, and the potassium (42—179 kg/ha K) in potassium sulphate. The nitrogen fertilization affected significantly both the yield and the quality of the tubers. The maximum tuber yield was achieved at the nitrogen application rate of 110 kg/ha. The economically most advantageous fertilization rate was 80 kg of nitrogen per hectare, if only the amount of the yield was taken into account. The nitrogen fertilization weakened the quality of the tubers. The weight and the size of the tubers increased, but the starch content of the tubers decreased as a result of the nitrogen fertilization. The starch yield also turned out to be the smallest at the heaviest nitrogen fertilization. Further, the biggest rate of nitrogen weakened the flavor of the tubers, depressed their mealiness, and increased slightly their discoloration when raw. The fertilization had no effect on the darkening of cooked potatoes. In these one-year experiments, the increase of the potassium fertilization from 42 kg/ha K did not have a significant effect on the yield and the quality of the tubers.

ABSTRACT<br /><br />Sago palm is a carbohydrate source which has the highest carbohydrate content compared to the other crops. It can produce about 200-400 kg per trunk of sago dry starch. More than 50% sago palm population in the world are grown in Indonesia and 90% sago palm in Indonesia is found in Papua. This research was aimed to characterize several sago palm accessions in South Sorong District, West Papua. There were 12 accessions observed, i.e. Fasai, Fasampe, Falia, Fanomik, Fasongka, Fafion, Fakattao, Fanke, Fablen, Failik, Fakreit and Fasinan. Among these accessions, there were many differences based on morphological characteristics such as shoots color, crown shape, trunk height, number of leaf, existence of spine, starch content, also pith and starch color. Fablen was the only non-spiny type. Most of sago accessions were high yielding accessions with the potential yield more than 200 kg per trunk of sago dry starch. Fanomik had the highest potential yield. Sago palm productivity in the natural forest of Saifi Subdistrict, South Sorong District, West Papua was estimated to reach approximately 34.59 ton ha-1 per year of sago dry starch.   <br /><br />Keywords: accessions, starch, yield, food
