AbstractIn recent years, ultrashort-pulsed lasers have increased their applicability for industrial requirements, as reliable femtosecond and picosecond laser sources with high output power are available on the market. Compared to conventional laser sources, high quality processing of a large number of material classes with different mechanical and optical properties is possible. In the field of laser cutting, these properties enable the cutting of multilayer substrates with changing material properties. In this work, the femtosecond laser cutting of phosphor sheets is demonstrated. The substrate contains a 230 µm thick silicone layer filled with phosphor, which is embedded between two glass plates. Due to the softness and thermal sensitivity of the silicone layer in combination with the hard and brittle dielectric material, the separation of such a material combination is challenging for both mechanical separation processes and cutting with conventional laser sources. In our work, we show that the femtosecond laser is suitable to cut the substrate with a high cutting edge quality. In addition to the experimental results of the laser dicing process, we present a universal model that allows predicting the final cutting edge geometry of a multilayer substrate.

Perforated belts, which are used in vacuum conveyor belts, can have significantly different mechanical properties like strength and elasticity due to a variety of used materials and can have different thickness from very thin (0,7 mm) to thick belts (6 mm). In order to design a complex machine for mechanical perforation, which can perforate whole range of belts, it is necessary to research the influence of the cutting edge geometry on the parameters of the perforation process. Three most important parameters, which describe the perforation process are the cutting force, the velocity and the temperature of the piercing punch. The results presented in this paper consider two different types of punching (a piercing punch with the punching die or with the reducer plate) and different cutting edge directions, angles, diameters and material properties. Test were made for different groups of composites belts – with polyurethane and polyester fabric, polyamide core or aramid-fibre reinforced polymers. The main goal of this research is to specify effective tools and parameters of the perforation process for each group of composites belts.

Ultrafast laser drilling has been proven to effectively reduce the heat-affected zone (HAZ) of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites. However, previous research mainly focused on the effects of picosecond laser parameters on CFRP drilling. Compared with a picosecond laser, a femtosecond laser can achieve higher quality CFRP drilling due to its smaller pulse width, but there are few studies on the effects of femtosecond laser parameters on CFRP drilling. Moreover, the cross-sectional taper of CFRP produced by laser drilling is very large. This paper introduces the use of the femtosecond laser to drill cylindrical holes in CFRP. The effect of laser power, rotational speed of the laser, and number of spiral passes on HAZ and ablation depth in circular laser drilling and spiral laser drilling mode was studied, respectively. It also analyzed the forming process of the drilling depth in the spiral drilling mode and studied the influence of laser energy and drilling feed depth on the holes’ diameters and the taper. The experimental results show that the cylindrical hole of CFRP with a depth-to-diameter ratio of about 3:1 (taper < 0.32∘, HAZ < 10 m) was obtained by using femtosecond laser and a spiral drilling apparatus.

Mit Schneidkantenpräparation kann das Werkzeug im Zerspanprozess an die Bearbeitungsaufgabe angepasst werden. Homogene Präparationen können dabei entweder auf hohe Belastungen des Werkzeugs oder ein optimiertes Bearbeitungsergebnis im Sinne der Oberfläche ausgelegt werden. In diesem Beitrag wurden die Schneidkanten von Hartmetall-Wendeschneidplatten unterschiedlich inhomogen präpariert, um den unterschiedlichen Anforderungen entlang des Eingriffs Rechnung zu tragen. Neben der Werkzeugstandzeit wurde das Prozessergebnis beim Außenlängs-Runddrehen von ausferritischem Gusseisen (ADI) 900 untersucht. &nbsp; The preparation of cutting edges allows for tools to be tailored to the machining process. A homogeneous preparation can either be designed for high loads in the machining process or an optimized machining result on the surface. In this article, the cutting edges of tungsten carbide indexable inserts were prepared inhomogeneously and thus individually matched to the machining task. Tool life and machining performance while turning austempered ductile iron (ADI) 900 were investigated.

In this work, the implementation of a femtosecond Stimulated Raman Scattering microscope, equipped with three femtosecond laser sources: a Titanium-Sapphire (Ti:Sa), an optical parametric oscillator (OPO), and a second harmonic generator (SHG); is presented. Our microscope is designed so that it can cover all the regions of Raman spectra, taking advantage of two possible laser combinations. The first, Ti:Sa and OPO laser beams, which cover the C-H region (>2800 cm-1 ) in stimulated Raman gain (SRG) modality, whereas the second, Ti:Sa and SHG laser beams, covering the C-H region and the fingerprint region in stimulated Raman losses (SRL) modality. The successful realization of the microscope is demonstrated, reporting images of polystyrene beads using both SRL and SRG modalities.

Nowadays, the wood cutting process looks like a technological scheme consisting of several connected and relatively inseparable parts. The crosscutting wood is the most widespread in the process of fo­rest exploitation; it is used at tree exploitation, shortening stems and assortment production. The article deals with the influence of the cutting edge geometry of circular saws on the torque and also on the cutting performance at the crosscutting wood therefore there is the influence on the whole cutting process. In the article there is described detailed measurement procedure, used measuring devices and the process of results analysis. Knowledge of wood crosscutting process and choice of suitable cutting conditions and cutting tools will contribute to decrease production costs and energy saving.
