Background and Purpose: The nursing research on learning differences is currently expanding, suggesting the need for trustful measurements. This study aimed to adapt and cross-culturally validate the Learning Style Inventory. Methods: The first phase involved symmetrical translation and adaptation to the Greek target language. The second phase concerned the psychometric testing. Results: Internal reliability showed satisfactory alpha values. Kappa coefficients supported the test–retest reliability, and paired t test correlations justified the stability. Factor analysis yielded 2 constructs fitted with theory. The internal validity was also evidenced. The nursing students' learning style profile was discussed within their educational field and cultural background. Conclusions: The inventory presented content and construct equivalence to original scales. Certain implications were drawn for nursing supporting the utility of learning styles' measurements.

The intellectual foundation of modern experiential learning theory owes much of its roots to John Dewey’s educational philosophy. In his seminal 1916 work, Democracy and Education: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Education, Dewey argued that human knowledge and education are rooted in inquiry, which in turn is rooted in human experience. His ideas, along with those of Jean Piaget, formed the basis of D. A. Kolb’s 1984 book Experiential Learning: Experience as the Source of Learning and Development. Kolb’s theory of learning, which he formulated to better understand student learning styles, became the starting point for the debate on the use of experiential learning. Kolb introduced a four-stage cycle to explain learning: concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation. His framework has been adopted to investigate how learning occurs inside the classroom. However, numerous criticisms have been leveled against Kolb’s learning styles approach. One type of criticism focuses on the importance of learning style on student learning, and another focuses on the construct validity, internal validity, and reliability of Kolb’s Learning Style Inventory (LSI). There are several avenues for improving the use of experiential learning techniques, such as the integration of service-learning into the classroom and an institutional commitment to designing a complete curriculum.

Abstract Background In a context where there is no treatment for the current COVID-19 virus, the combination of self-care behaviours together with confinement, are strategies to decrease the risk of contagion and remain healthy. However, there are no self-care measures to screen self-care activities in general population and which, could be briefly in a lockdown situation. This research aims to build and validate a psychometric tool to screen self-care activities in general population. Methods Firstly, an exploratory factor analysis was performed in a sample of 226 participants to discover the underlying factorial structure and to reduce the number of items in the original tool into a significant pool of items related to self-care. Later a confirmatory factor analyses were performed in a new sample of 261 participants to test for the fit and goodness of factor solutions. Internal validity, reliability, and convergent validity between its score with perceived stress and psychological well-being measures were examined on this sample. Results The exploratory analyses suggested a four-factor solution, corresponding to health consciousness, nutrition and physical activity, sleep, and intra-personal and inter-personal coping skills (14 items). Then, the four-factor structure was confirmed as the best model fit for self-care activities. The tool demonstrated good reliability, predictive validity of individuals’ perception of coping with COVID-19 lockdown, and convergent validity with well-being and perceived stress. Conclusions This screening tool could be helpful to address future evaluations and interventions to promote healthy behaviours. Likewise, this tool can be targeted to specific population self-care’s needs during a scalable situation.

Learning styles of dance and physical education majors were described and compared. Subjects were 167 declared majors in 1982 from 9 universities (87 PE, 80 dance; 44 males, 115 females). Kolb's Learning Style Inventory which measures abstractness or concreteness and activity or reflectivity was given. By t test (.05) no significant differences in preferred learning style were found between majors or genders.

Abstract Purpose To determine the validity of wrist range of motion (ROM) measurements by the wearable-controlled ReValidate! wrist-rehabilitation game, which simultaneously acts as a digital goniometer. Furthermore, to establish the reliability of the game by contrasting ROM measurements to those found by medical experts using a universal goniometer. Methods As the universal goniometer is considered the reference standard, inter-rater reliability between surgeons was first determined. Internal validity of the game ROM measurements was determined in a test–retest setting with healthy volunteers. The reliability of the game was tested in 34 patients with a restricted range of motion, in whom the ROM was measured by experts as well as digitally. Intraclass-correlation coefficients (ICCs) were determined and outcomes were analyzed using Bland–Altman plots. Results Inter-rater reliability between experts using a universal goniometer was poor, with ICCs of 0.002, 0.160 and 0.520. Internal validity testing of the game found ICCs of − 0.693, 0.376 and 0.863, thus ranging from poor to good. Reliability testing of the game compared to medical expert measurements, found that mean differences were small for the flexion–extension arc and the radial deviation-ulnar deviation arc. Conclusion The ReValidate! game is a reliable home-monitoring device digitally measuring ROM in the wrist. Interestingly, the test–retest reliability of the serious game was found to be considerably higher than the inter-rater reliability of the reference standard, being healthcare professionals using a universal goniometer. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the strength of perceptual style preference on the acquisition of a novel motor task. The Physical Needs element of the Learning Style Inventory was administered to 98 students, 14 to 15 yr. old, to determine the strength of their perceptual preferences for processing auditory, visual, and kinesthetic/tactile information. Subjects practiced the tennis-ball basket-bounce test as a novel task 8 times (3 practice and 5 test trials) per day for 9 days. Subjects were grouped according to the strength of their perceptual preferences: Group 1 ( n = 15) in the top quartile on all perceptual modes; Group 2 ( n = 16) at the median on all modes; and Group 3 ( n = 14) in the bottom quartile on all modes. Scores on the ball-bounce task were compared across groups using a 3 (groups) × 9 (days) analysis of variance. There were over-all significant differences between perceptual-preference groups and across days, but no significant interaction was detected. The composite strength of perceptual-style preference as measured is potentially important in acquisition of this motor skill.
