Automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) is an equipment of a radar system to reach difficult areas. For radar applications, an ADS-B requires a low noise amplifier (LNA) with high gain, stability, and a low noise figure. In this research, to produce an LNA with good performance, an LNA was designed using a BJT transistor 2SC5006 with DC bias, VCE = 3 V, and current Ic = 10 mA, also a DC supply with VCC = 12 V, to achieve a high gain with a low noise figure. The initial LNA impedance circuit was simulated using 2 elements and then converted into 3 elements to obtain parameters according to the target specification through the tuning process, impedance matching circuit was used to reduce return loss and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) values. The LNA sequence obtains the working frequency of 1090 MHz, return loss of -52.103 dB, a gain of 10.382, VSWR of 1.005, a noise figure of 0.552, stability factor of 0.997, and bandwidth of 83 MHz. From the simulation results, the LNA has been successfully designed according to the ADS-B receiver specifications.

Vehicle stability during cornering on horizontal road curves is a risky stage of travel because of additional factors acting. The main stability factor is centrifugal force, which depends on road curve sharpness and is very sensitive to driving speed usually controlled by the driver. However, the counterforce is produced at tire-road interaction, where different pavement types and states cause a wide variation of tire contact forces and vehicle stability. In the paper, the part of vehicle suspension performance while moving on a sharp horizontal road curve with different levels of pavement roughness was simulated by 14 degrees of freedom vehicle model. The model was built in MATLAB/Simulink software with available pavement roughness selection according to ISO 8608. The influence of variable suspension damping available in modern vehicles on risky cornering is analysed when a vehicle reaches the edge of the pavement with its specific roughness. Critical parameters of vehicle stability depending on road curvature, pavement roughness and driving speed are selected to assess the solutions for safe cornering.

AbstractThe epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a cellular process critical for wound healing, cancer metastasis and embryonic development. Recent efforts have identified the role of hybrid epithelial/mesenchymal states, having both epithelial and mesehncymal traits, in enabling cancer metastasis and resistance to various therapies. Also, previous work has suggested that NRF2 can act as phenotypic stability factor to help stablize such hybrid states. Here, we incorporate a phenomenological epigenetic feedback effect into our previous computational model for EMT signaling. We show that this type of feedback can stabilize the hybrid state as compared to the fully mesenchymal phenotype if NRF2 can influence SNAIL at an epigenetic level, as this link makes transitions out of hybrid state more difficult. However, epigenetic regulation on other NRF2-related links do not significantly change the EMT dynamics. Finally, we considered possible cell division effects in our epigenetic regulation model, and our results indicate that the degree of epigenetic inheritance does not appear to be a critical factor for the hybrid E/M state stabilizing behavior of NRF2.

The pillar stability factor (PSF) is calculated in three different mining stages for a sublevel open stoping mining project located in northern Botswana. Several three-dimensional finite element models were developed by varying the stope span. Pillar strength was estimated using the Lunder and Pakalnis equation and pillar stress was obtained from the numerical models. As mining progresses, both the first and second mining stages meet the rib pillar stability factor requirement for safe extraction. Geometrical improvements are suggested in the mining layout for the third mining stage to achieve the required PSF, which is based on international practices.

Slope failures in high plasticity clay deposits are common occurrences in many parts of the world. In western and central Alabama, expansive Prairie clays are commonly found, and shallow slope failures have occurred in both fill and cut slopes containing these high plasticity clays. The objective of this study was to examine the effects of suction and the use of nonlinear strength envelopes on the embankment stability of a section of highway AL-5. The testing program consisted of fifteen ring shear tests performed using a Bromhead Ring Shear Device. The results of the tests were used to develop both linear and nonlinear fully softened and residual strength envelopes. The saturated strength envelopes are then used in a limit equilibrium slope stability analysis with and without the effects of suction. The results show stability (factor of safety >1) for all cases except the residual friction angle without suction. Given these results, large slope failures are unlikely to occur in this area, but surficial failures and deformations due to creep may be possible. These results demonstrate the importance of considering the effects of suction and nonlinear strength envelopes when examining the potential for shallow slope failures in high plasticity clays.

Industrial waste landfills, as evidenced by frequent accidents occurring in recent years, are regarded as one of the most hazardous facilities in the world. For the adequate management of a landfill, risk assessments of dam failures should be performed before operations begin. This paper deals with the preliminary risk assessment used for the tailings and pyrite concentrate storage facilities, as well as the drainage waters reservoir, which are currently at the development and construction stage in the Cukaru Peki deposit located in eastern Serbia. The research was conducted to establish the facts and level of risk at an early stage to allow for timely prevention of potential accidents and bring operational practice in line with design requirements. The annual failure probability was estimated using a semi-empirical method, based on the dam stability factor. While, the framework proposed by the New Zealand Society on Large Dams was applied to assess the consequences of potential failures. The risk was assessed as a function of accident probability and the severity of possible consequences, and a 7 × 7 risk matrix was applied for analysis and evaluation. The level of dam failure risk at the location of the Cukaru Peki deposit was preliminarily assessed as moderate and conditionally tolerable, based on a low estimated probability of accident and a significant severity of consequences. Once the operation of these facilities starts risk assessments should be regularly updated, in order to maintain this level, and in accordance with the current situation, the modelling of specific accident scenarios should be included.

Abstract The present studies on battery electric vehicles (BEVs) has mainly focused on the single-objective or weighted multi-objective optimization based on energy management, which can not manifest the coupling relationship among the vehicle performance objectives essentially. To optimize the handling stability, ride comfort and economy of BEV, this paper built the stability dynamics analysis model, ride comfort simulation half-car model and power consumption calculation model of BEV, as well as two-point virtual random excitation model on Level B road and proposed related evaluation indexes, including vehicle handling stability factor, weighted acceleration root-mean-square (RMS) value of vertical vibration at the driver’s seat and power consumption per 100 m at a constant speed. The Pareto optimum principle–based multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA) of BEV was also designed, which was encoded with real numbers and obtained the target values of all optional schemes via MATLAB/Simulink simulation software. The merits and demerits of alternative schemes could be judged according to the Pareto dominance principle, so that alternative schemes obtained after optimization were realizable. The results of simulation experiment suggest that the proposed algorithm can perform the multi-objective optimization on BEV, and obtain a group of Pareto optimum solutions featured by high handling stability, favorable ride comfort and low energy consumption for the decision-makers.

Relative permeability curve is a key factor in describing the characteristics of multiphase flow in porous media. The steady-state method is an effective method to measure the relative permeability curve of oil and water. The capillary discontinuity at the end of the samples will cause the capillary end effect. The capillary end effect (CEE) affects the flow and retention of the fluid. If the experimental design and data interpretation fail to eliminate the impact of capillary end effects, the relative permeability curve may be wrong. This paper proposes a new stability factor method, which can quickly and accurately correct the relative permeability measured by the steady-state method. This method requires two steady-state experiments at the same proportion of injected liquid (wetting phase and non-wetting phase), and two groups of flow rates and pressure drop data are obtained. The pressure drop is corrected according to the new relationship between the pressure drop and the core length. This new relationship is summarized as a stability factor. Then the true relative permeability curve that is not affected by the capillary end effect can be obtained. The validity of the proposed method is verified against a wide range of experimental results. The results emphasize that the proposed method is effective, reliable, and accurate. The operation steps of the proposed method are simple and easy to apply.
