Abstract The survey of the ecological condition of eight lakes within the city limits of Freiburg included hydrochemical measurements and analyses (oxygen profiles, Secchi depth, pH, biochemical oxygen demand) together with biological parameters (chlorophyll a, phytoplanktonbiomass, Escherichia coli counts), as well as parasitic examinations. Only some of the investigated parameters are presented here. Seven of the eight lakes were found to be eutrophic. The process of eutrophication appears to be still in progress. One lake can be considered to be hypertrophic. Schistosome dermatitis was observed. The water quality in general was considered to be acceptable; suggestions to maintain or improve the water quality are made.

In Mohoni Village, East Petasia District, North Morowali Regency there are nickel mining activities that are carried out by PT. Asiamax Mining Indonesia. Several locations were mine out status. Hence, reclamation programs are made to improve environmental conditions before mining. One of these stages is water quality tests to ensure that the reclamation area is worthy to be a habitat for animals and plants. The purpose of this study is to find out the water quality in the reclamation area of the ex-nickel mining in Mohoni Village. The storet method is used to analyze water quality whose test parameters include pH, total suspanded solid (TSS), concentrations of copper (Cu), cadmium (Cd), zinc (Zn), lead (Pb), nickel (Ni), chromium valence 6, iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), and cobalt (Co) once every three months for a year. The quality water check results are compared with the environmental quality standards in accordance with law number 32 of 2009. Based on the average monitoring results show that the water quality is classified as moderately polluted. The conclusion from this study is that reclamation land might be not used as habitat for animals and plants because the availability of water is not suitable for consumption

The East Coast of Surabaya consists of large mangrove and fish pond areas. These areas are crucial for the ecosystem and for providing food and shelter for the local community. If the water quality decreases the mangroves will not be able to provide these functions. The water quality of these areas can be measured in two ways: by looking at the physico-chemical parameters or by looking at the biological parameters. Both offer a very good view of what state the area is in. The purpose of this study is to find out what the differences are between the Mulyorejo and the Wonorejo areas to see what differences there are within the East Coast of Surabaya and what could be the main cause of these differences. The data shows that the physico-chemical data does not comply with the limitation factors. The main problem are the nutrients which will have to be lowered to preserve the ecosystem. In terms of the biological state of the mangrove, there are few problems found. It is, however, unclear why the tree density in one of the Wonorejo areas is declining and it should be determined what the reason for this is.

Macroalgal fouling communities are potentially useful as bioindicators in environmental monitoring as they are considered to be sensitive to changes in environmental conditions and the use of artificial substrata facilitates the implementation of standardized sampling strategies. The response of macroalgal fouling communities on buoys to changes in water quality was investigated with a view to the possible utilization of these assemblages in environmental monitoring programmes. Seven study sites were selected based on previously collected environmental data and Principal Components Analysis (PCA) was used to order sites according to beam attenuation coefficient (BAC) and concentration of dissolved nitrates and phosphates, relative to a minimally impacted reference site. At each site, all fouling macroalgae were collected from 10 buoys of standard shape and size, and were identified to the lowest possible taxonomic level. Species composition and species dominance were highly variable among impacted sites, indicating that qualitative aspects of community structure may not be useful as indicators of changes in water quality. However, higher levels of nutrient enrichment and turbidity were associated with lower macroalgal species richness, lower overall abundances, and decreased diversities, and therefore these quantitative aspects of community structure are potentially useful as indicators of environmental change. Intermediate levels of turbidity and nutrient enrichment were associated with lower evenness, but did not influence species richness, suggesting that macroalgal abundances respond to changes in environmental conditions before species replacement occurs.

The groundwater is considered as essential resources for Irrigation in Misurata city, this type of Irrigation suffered to some problems affecting their quality. The aim of this study was to evaluate, a physiochemical and biological parameters of wells water in Misurata Area during the period between November 2016 to December 2018. The area of study about 70 Km distance between Tawarq and Eldafina was divided into eight lines per appendicular to sea cost. Five water sample were taken for each line, in which the distance about 20 Km between each line. The pH, SO4, HCO3, Ca, and D.O were within the permissible levels a according to FAO standard as well as, SAR, RSC, SSP were acceptable while EC, TDS, Cl-, K+ and Mg++, were higher than the standard, moreover, the temperature, was normal in all the samples. The heavy metals values of Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu were within the standard. In general, the results showed that high values of EC, TDS, Cl-, and Mg++ were the main reasons which lead to the deterioration of water irrigation. Therefore, the water was inadequate for agricultural purpose without any treatment such as desalination to reduce the salinity, Also the results of microbiologic analysis showed a contamination in most sample.

UNITERMOS: irrigação localizada, índice de uniformidade, filtração, manta sintética não tecida, tratamento químico  RIBEIRO, T. M. da THE WATER QUALITY EFFECT IN THE CLOGGING OF EMITTERS AND THE PERFORMANCE OF FILTERS UTILIZED IN THE TRICKLE IRRIGATION  2 ABSTRACT  The present work aimed to carry out an experimental investigation of a superficial water source utilized in trickle irrigation as well as verify its influence in the clogging of drippers and in the performance of two filters: a disc one and a non woven synthetic one. The irrigation water was chlorinated with sodium hypochlorite. The water used in this experiment was from an open reservoir where an experimental trickle irrigation system was installed. The temporal variations of the water quality was assessed for one year, considering the main physical, chemical and biological parameters of the water that causes clogging in the emitters. The filter performance was assessed by comparing the effluent concentration in the disc filters (normally used for this purpose) and in non-woven synthetic fabric, for physical and biological parameters. The emitter obstruction degree was assessed through flow tests which determined the uniformity of water distribution through two rates where the number of sampled emitters varied. The research was developed in four 30-day stages, carried out in different seasons of the year. For the irrigation water, the results indicated that the chemical parameters (pH) and iron showed a medium risk of clogging whereas hydrogen sulphites showed a high risk of clogging. There was not a difference in the performance of fabric and disc filters in relation to physical and biological parameters of their effluents. The average values for  water distribution uniformity rates were pretty close for the two blocks that utilized both disc and fabric filters.  KEYWORDS: trickle irrigation, uniformity index, filtration, non-woven synthetic fabrics, chemical treatment

A B S T R A C T The poor quality of water bodies shall exercise direct influence on the health of society, causing hydro term placement diseases leading to death millions of people worldwide. In this scenario, the present study aimed to identify the relationship between environmental conditions and hydro term placement diseases in the Rural Settlement Serra Grande, located in the Sub-basin of the Natuba rivulet, in the municipality of Vitória de Santo Antão, Pernmbuco State, Brazil. Six springs  were chosen for sample collections and determination of  water quality parameters, comparing the results with the quality standards established by CONAMA ( Brazilian National Environmental Council) Resolution Nº 357/05 and Ordinance of the Ministry of Health (Brazil) No. 2914/11. Questionnaires were applied to local social actors: community, health and Municipal Health Secretariat, addressing aspects of water diseases and health programs implemented. The results obtained showed that the springs were the main source of water for domestic consumption, irrigation and animal watering in the studied area. However, the water quality analyses showed that these springs  do not show appropriate sanitary conditions to direct human consumption, requiring treatment. In relation to the profile of hydro term placement diseases occurrence, it was observed that the worms and protozooses are the diseases that most affected the local population.
