The present study was undertaken to find out the efficacy of vitamin E and/or vitamin C against mercury (Hg) induced toxicity in mice. Sixty mice were randomly divided into 5 equal groups (n=12). One group of mice (Group A) was kept as control and each of rest four groups (B, C, D and E) were fed with mercuric chloride (HgCl2) in drinking water @ 65 mg/L. In addition to HgCl2 alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E) @ 100 mg/L, ascorbic acid (vitamin C) @ 250 mg/L and combination of vitamin E and vitamin C at same dose were given to the mice of groups C, D and E respectively. All treatments were continued for 28 consecutive days. Four mice of each group were sacrificed on day 1, 14 and 28 and efficacy of vitamin E and vitamin C against Hg induced toxicity were evaluated by observing toxic signs, body weight, hemato-biochemical parameters and postmortem lesions. Mild (++) toxic signs as evident by reduced feed and water intake, salivation, vomiting, excitement, muscle tremor, ataxia, restlessness, incordination and ruffled hair coat were observed from 2nd week (group B) and from 3rd week (group C and D) by intoxication with HgCl2. Significant (P<0.01) reduction of body weight (18.38%) and hematological parameters i.e. TEC (19.88%), TLC (27.89%), Hb content (34.09%) and PCV (9.15%) were observed at day 28 in HgCl2 induced intoxicated mice (group B). At identical period in same group biochemical parameters i.e. AST (46.99%) and ALT (58.72%) increased significantly (p<0.01). Pinpoint hemorrhages throughout the liver and highly (++++) congested kidney was also observed at post mortem (group B). All the parameters i.e. toxic signs, body weight, hemato-biochemical and post mortem lesions were found to be slight (+) or mild (++) and/or improved in rest three groups of mice following treatment with vitamin E, vitamin C and combination of vitamin E and vitamin C. The present study reveals that vitamin E and C have a protective role against Hg poisoning. Mango almond and peel flours are a potential source of nutriment. In this study, the proximate composition and mineral element profile of four varieties of mango flour that are grown and processing in north of Cote d’Ivoire investigated. The data can be used as a reference when these flours are used for further processing in a variety of products. The peels and almonds were harvested fresh, dried in an oven at 50°C for 72 hours, ground and analysed according to standard procedures. Results showed carbohydrate, crude protein, total lipid, crude fibre, ash contents and vitamin C of the couple “peel – almond” flours were found to be 83.83-76.16%, 2.48-6.54%, 2.79-13.45%, 9.97-7.67%, 4.25-3.10% and a considerable amount of vitamin C of 307.67–304.85 mg/100g, respectively. They also contained important minerals such as calcium at 1204.45-1064.82 mg/100g, magnesium at 257.46-243.81 mg/100g, and potassium was the major at 1883.65-1617.66 mg/100g, regarding peels and almonds flours, respectively. Mangoes varieties such as Amelie, Kent, Keitt and Brooks have the potential to be a good source of nutrition for humans and animals. Tomatoes are one of the most consumed vegetables in the world. Unfortunately, obtaining a high quality tomato yield in our latitudes is inconceivable without additional lighting. Changes in biochemical composition are mainly dependent on the light received by the plant. During the winter months, natural daylight at 55 ° latitude is insufficient to provide the necessary vegetation for fruit-bearing vegetables. The aim of this study is to investigate the changes in the biochemical composition of tomato fruits by using less conventional lighting methods, which could offer potential energy savings by providing higher levels of biologically active substances in tomatoes. The study was conducted in a greenhouse of Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies during the winter season 2018-2019, using a 16-hour photoperiod. LED, Induction, and High Pressure Sodium Lamps (as control) were used in the study. These lighting devices, with some differences, simulate daylight. Three tomato cultivars: ‘Diamont F1’, Encor F1’and ‘Balzano F1’were studied. The study specified the tomato yield and the following biochemical parameters: soluble sugars (BRIX), vitamin C, organic acids, lycopene, carotenoids, phenols and flavonoids. As expected, the yield and species-specific pigment content of tomato fruit is largely dependent on the genetics of the variety. On the other hand, biologically active compounds such as organic acids, soluble sugars, ascorbic acid and flavonoids undergo more changes due to the composition of the light. The obtained biochemical parameters give an opportunity to consider different illumination methods and the need to carry out further studies in order to confirm the conclusions. Significantly higher yields were observed in the variant with conventionally used high pressure sodium lamps. In mean time, it should be noted that in the variant with LED lamps, higher content of lycopene as well as phenols and vitamin C were observed.

A laboratory based 2 × 2 factorial experiment was conducted to investigate the influence of dietary phosphorus and zinc levels on whole body mineral, liver mineral, and liver vitamin-C contents of fingerling rainbow trout for 21 weeks. Two levels of phosphorus (19 and 30 mg g-1) and two levels of zinc (55 and 100 μ g g-1) in the dry diets were tested. Duplicate tanks of 30 rainbow trout (average weight 1.56 ± 0.24 g) per 60L glass tank were fed experimental diets three times a day to satiation level in 15 to 24oC water temperature. The result of the present study demonstrated that dietary zinc supplementation significantly influenced the whole body zinc and liver copper contents in fingerling rainbow trout where as additional phosphorus did not show any significant difference. Zinc supplementation significantly influenced the liver vitamin-C contents of the fish. Hence it is clear that zinc supplementation is necessary in fingerling rainbow trout feed. Further studies in this area are needed broadly.
