AbstractCurrent evaluation of higher education programmes is driven primarily by economic concerns, with a resulting imbalance towards the summative assessment of teaching and away from faculty development. These agendas are advanced through datafication, in which the transformation of social and material activity into digital data is producing a narrow, instrumental view of education. Taking a postdigital perspective on contemporary practices of evaluation outlined in higher education literature, we argue for an ecological view, in which evaluation must take account of those aspects of teaching, learning, and educational context, missing from digital data. We position quality as distributed across teacher, student, institution and context, arguing for the cross-fertilization of diverse kinds of data and non-datafied understandings, along with greater involvement of teachers and students in ways that enhance their agency, and develop their evaluative judgement of the quality of educational practices. We conclude that datafied practices can complement expert judgement when situated within a trusting, formative environment, and informed by an understanding of both pedagogy and technology, and clarity of educational purpose.

The scale, magnitude, and diversity of higher education teaching/learning and higher education institutions (HEIs) have resulted in corresponding diverse datafication representations. Contrary to conventional datafication, where the objective is profitability (e.g., adopting facial recognition for improved policing), the datafication of HEIs should be analysed, understood, and interpreted for its unique diversity, practice, and consequences. The result of the COVID-19 pandemic has forced a paradigm shift from conventional/traditional classroom-based teaching to online teaching, which has resulted in enhanced data collection. Taking a post-digital perspective on modern practices in higher education literature, this chapter argues for an organic view, in which the datafication must consider the aspects of teaching, learning, and educational context that are absent in digital data. The findings from the discussion lead to the conclusion that datafication can complement expert judgement in HEIs when informed by the unification of pedagogy and technology.

<p>With the further advancement of higher education connotation, increasing problems have arisen in the previous quality management methods of higher education, which is unable to meet the development needs of education in new age. To solve these problems, the development model of higher education must transform from previous quality management to quality governance. Therefore, the innovative practice of higher education quality governance needs to focus on directive development idea at the core of teacher-student oriented development. In this way, the joint development system of teachers and students should be improved, thus further enhancing teaching quality of higher education. </p>

The relevance of the chosen topic is determined by the importance of interaction between teachers and students in modern higher education, as well as the need to cover the psychological features of such interaction from the point of view of developing a qualitative assessment of their role and place in the educational process of a higher educational institution. The purpose of the study is to formulate psychological aspects of “teacher-student” communication within the educational space to identify methods of its regulation. The leading approach of the research is a combination of theoretical analysis of the main aspects of pedagogical interaction between teachers and students in an educational institution taking into account the main functions and tasks of each of the groups under consideration and structural synthesis of the features of this type of interaction based on psychological factors of communication on the scale of a higher educational institution. The research considers issues related to the psychological features of pedagogical interaction between teachers and students in modern higher education. Qualitative indicators of communicative relations of subjects of the educational process, in particular teachers and students, are determined. The key psychological features of pedagogical interaction in the “teacherstudent” system are highlighted, including the development of trust in the authority of the teacher, taking into account students' individual factors in the process of studying subjects within the programme, maintaining a positive psychological climate in subject-subject relations. The necessity of developing a qualitative assessment of the level of communication between teachers and students as an objective factor for further assessment of the overall level of their pedagogical interaction effectiveness and the psychological characteristics of each of the groups under consideration is emphasised. The results and conclusions of the research are of practical value both for modern applicants for higher education and for representatives of the teaching staff of modern higher educational institutions concerned with the problems of building high-quality communication among each other, taking into account the individual characteristics and qualities of each group

"In the context in which the teaching, learning, and assessment processes take place in the online environment, the question arises whether the currently organized learning situations are as effective as the learning situations carried out in the classroom, before the beginning of the pandemic. One of the disadvantages of online learning is related to the teacher’s low control over students’ activity. Factors such as initiative, creativity, efficient time management, intrinsic motivation, responsibility, and intellectual curiosity play an important role in students’ success in learning activities. Attendance at courses should not be formal and superficial and should be a process that involves the active and interactive participation of the students in the learning process. Providing high-quality educational opportunities to all students is a goal that is increasingly difficult to achieve in the context of the absence of face-to-face interactions. Also, applying a curriculum focused on the needs of the learner is becoming hard to achieve. Through this research, we aim to investigate issues related to how online learning takes place and to establish ways in which we can increase the efficiency of current teaching and learning processes. The study revealed that in the opinion of most of the students, the current epidemiological context has influenced in a negative way the quality of teaching and the student-teacher educational relationship.   Abstract The evolution of teaching is currently considered a very important task, both from an institutional and a moral viewpoint. The evaluation of such a domain, and its conduct, has been reported by several research studies in the literature. “Who? What? How? Drawing from which references? Which clues? Should the people assessed take part in the process? To what extent should the results be publicized?” (Demailly, 2001). For that reason, we will first draw some guidelines for the evaluation of teaching and try to define its possible objectives. Three main domains may be contemplated: teachers’ activity (teaching), the learning process (learning), and the effects of the teaching/learning process. These draw upon an enquiry carried out in three different faculties by our research team. This study is related to the VOLUBILIS project "Moroccan and European students: a comparative approach”, which aims to identify the challenges and expectations of Moroccan students. The purpose of this research is to indicate how students at Hassan II University of Casablanca judge the quality of their studies. We will be able to show that an evaluation of courses by students is both possible and profitable. As a matter of fact, this enquiry has brought up valuable information about higher education pedagogy that concerns the three fields mentioned earlier, and it also offer some suggestions to generate improvements. Relevance. The article discusses the problems of the transition of universities to a distance learning format. The transfer of universities to a remote format due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus allowed students to continue to receive training, which varied significantly due to technologies, the choice of which was determined by the current capabilities of educational institutions. The article analyzes the result of a study of the attitude and assessment of teachers and students organizing and conducting training outside the educational institution with the use of distance technologies. The purpose of the study is to identify the features of teaching and learning in a distance format in higher education during the spread of a new coronavirus infection. The objectives of the study are to identify factors that have influenced the quality of the implementation of educational programs in full in the electronic information and educational environment. The results of the study. A serious influence of the distance learning format on the quality of the teacher-student interaction was revealed (it has significantly decreased), which is undoubtedly one of the factors that reduce studentsʼ motivation to learn. For many respondents, distance learning and teaching was the first experience of a distance learning format, and therefore the attitude towards it is rather complicated. A significant scatter in the format of the classes, their completeness and content within the framework of distance learning, the low proportion of the teaching staff prepared for its implementation, and the generally low level of technical, methodological and legal support show that the majority of Russian universities are not ready to introduce distance learning. The transition to an online training format caused the majority of respondents discomfort and negative emotional experiences.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has come out with the draft of ‘National Education Policy (NEP) 2016’ in April 2016. The new NEP 2016 seeks to create conditions to improve the quality of teaching, learning and assessment, and promote transparency in the management of education in the country. The policy prescriptions enunciated in the policy document are critically examined in the context of the objectives set out in the document. An attempt is made to survey some of the recommendations of the report and examine issues related to higher education in the country. The issues include financing education and the policy initiatives, language policy and higher education, accreditation and quality assurance in higher education, International linkages in higher education and autonomy of higher educational institutions. The general trend seen in the document in support of private investment and justification of moving private involvement from periphery to the centre in higher education is critically commented in the paper.

When the quality of teacher-student and student-student relationships is undermined by conflicts, classrooms can become unwelcoming environments that are not conducive to teaching and learning. Circle conversations are widely utilized in response to such conflicts as well as for academic and community-building purposes. In this article, we introduce a form of circle conversation, which we have termed deconstructive class meeting. We developed this specific meeting format in a New Zealand secondary school drawing on local, indigenous processes of community conversation, discourse theory and narrative therapy. The structure of our meeting is deliberately designed to support the simultaneous achievement of two, seemingly contradictory objectives: conflict resolution and community building. We argue that when teachers and students collaboratively examine the power of ideas or discourses of learning not only alternatives to problematic practices become available, but learning communities and relationships are strengthened also.

English has won the status of International language. The quality of our expression depends on our use of speaking skills. The importance and value of speaking English have been accepted worldwide. In Pakistan, Teaching English was mainly focused upon reading and writing skills. But in today’s world, listening and speaking skills have become much more important than in the past. Recently, the value of role-play in the classroom situation has become mandatory to make the teaching-learning process easy, attractive, and interesting. The implementation of role-play was expected to be an effective way to improve the learners’ speaking skills. So in the present study, the focus is on this matter whether the use of role play can be beneficial in bringing a positive change in the teaching-learning process of speaking skills for elementary level learners. The collective problems of the teachers and students during speaking English were the main focus of the study. 360 students and twenty teachers of Bahawalpur region participated in this study. Pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire were used as a tool to collect the data from the respondents. The findings of the study showed that there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test results. It was suggested that speech practice with the help of role play should be encouraged at the elementary level.
