Internal combustion engine is a major source of noise pollution. These engines are used for various purposes such as, in power plants, automobiles, locomotives, and in various manufacturing machineries. The noise is caused by two reasons; the first reason is the pulses which created when the burst of high pressure gas suddenly enters the exhaust system, while the second reason is the friction of various parts of the engine where the exhaust noise is the most dominant. The limitation of the noise caused by the exhaust system is accomplished by the use of silencers and mufflers. The aim of this study is the reduction of the noise by changing its inlet and outlet pipe length and shape. Also the losses in noise for different length and shapes have been investigated experimentally. The results show that the corrugated pipe is preferable for noise reduction.

A detailed experimental study is conducted to observe the effect of various parameters like wavelength, depth of serrations, and pitch angle on serrated blades' acoustic emissions at low speeds up to 2000 rpm. Experiments are conducted on flat blade rotors with sinusoidal serrations on the trailing edge of blades with different amplitudes and wavelengths. A total of 7 blades with different serration configurations, including a base configuration, are studied, five of them have serrations throughout the span of the blade, and one configuration has serration of varying amplitude on the farther half of the blade. It is observed that some blade configurations have resulted in tonal noise reduction noise as much as 8dB, whereas some of the serration configurations reduce very little to none, there is no significant effect of T.E serrations on the broadband noise emitted by the rotor. Directivity of noise generated from the rotor, the effect of serrations on the directivity of the noise is studied.

As the number of cars increases and large cities become more and more crowded, noise reduction becomes more and more important. The decrease of the fuel consumption and the increase of power to the same cylindrical capacity are always current topics. This paper’s aim is to bring a contribution to solving these problems. The proposed solution consists in the use of ceramic materials in the design of the combustion chamber.


Several researches have been conducted to find a practical and environmentally sound solution of the problem of scrap tires. In this context, an experimental study was conducted to provide more data on the effect of crumb rubber on the acoustic properties of self-consolidating concrete SCC. To this end, Parallelepiped and cylindrical specimens were prepared by varying the proportion of crumb rubber with percentages of 0 %, 10 %, 20 % and 30 % of the volume of gravel. Properties such standardized level difference, sound absorption at different frequency and noise reduction were investigated. The results showed that the sound absorption and noise reduction coefficient were increased according to the increase of the percentage of crumb rubber. The self-consolidating concrete rubber SCCR has better acoustic properties in comparison with SCC.
