Mambong pottery in Kuala Krai, Kelantan is one of the types of potteries in Malaysia other than Sayong, Terenang and Sarawak pottery. Mambong pottery was being made by traditional technique like pinching and throwing. In this research, Mambong pottery was made by using slip casting method. This method used porous mould which can absorb the water content from the clay slip. Different composition of water and clay was used and its effect on product properties was investigated. Samples with different composition of water and clay were labelled as 50C50W, 60C40W, 70C30W and 80C20W samples with addition of 0.7% of sodium silicate, Na2SiO3. The samples were characterized by its specific gravity (S.G.) of clay slip, drying and firing linear shrinkage, density and porosity and strength of the clay samples. Finding from this research showed that 70C30W sample is the optimum composition in fabricating pottery by using slip casting among other samples.

The porous mullite ceramics doped with such metal oxides as ZrO2, WO3 and MgO in quantity of 5 wt% were prepared by slip casting method. The mullite phase was the main and dominant phase of ZrO2-, WO3- and MgO-doped samples, which were sintered at the temperatures of 1650°C, 1500°C, respectively. The ZrO2, WO3 and MgO had the positive effect on the increase of porosity and decrease of thermal conductivity of porous mullite ceramics and the degree of this effect was in the order of ZrO2<MgO<WO3.

AbstractMultilayer capacitors were made from Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 compositon by an usual technique: ceramic green sheets formed by slip casting method, printed with an 70% wt Ag- 30% wt Pd internal electrode and sintered at temperature ranging from 950 to 11OO°C. Chip capacitors exhibit large capacitance and temperature characteristics meet Z5U specification. Electrical properties of MLC based on PMN depend on specific parameters such as the average concentration of pyrochlore phase and perovskite phase, and the homogeneity degree of dielectric layers. Load humidity life tests show a degradation of some chips which can be connected with the formation of a surface layer rich in pyrochlore phase.

The work deals with preparation of functional gradient alumina ceramics with controlled porosity by slip casting method of aqueous alumina suspension containing pore-generating agent. The sol-gel transition of AlO(OH) was employed to stabilize pore-generating agent in the suspension. The composite bodies with layers of variable porosity were prepared. Based on dilatometer measurement the admission difference of irreversible dilatation changes #αirr between compounded layers was determined in order to prepare defect free bi-layer bodies. The dependence of physical and mechanical properties of as fired composite bodies on the porosity value was expressed.
