Optimal control of chaotic systems is discussed in this paper. Since often only open-loop control can be obtained from the minimum principle, the output of the controlled system may be dramatically affected by noise. By using chaos synchronization, we successfully keep the output of the controlled chaotic system in the designed optimal trajectory even in noisy background. The numerical experiments of the Rössler system and the Hénon system are presented to demonstrate its effectiveness.

(1) This is a subject to which very little study has been directed. The first to enunciate any proposition regarding it was Jacobi; but the solitary result which he reached received no attention from mathematicians,—certainly no fruitful attention,—during seventy years following the publication of it.Jacobi was concerned with a problem regarding the partition of a fraction with composite denominator (u1 − t1) (u2 − t2) … into other fractions whose denominators are factors of the original, where u1, u2, … are linear homogeneous functions of one and the same set of variables. The specific character of the partition was only definable by viewing the given fraction (u1−t1)−1 (u2−t2)−1…as expanded in series form, it being required that each partial fraction should be the aggregate of a certain set of terms in this series. Of course the question of the order of the terms in each factor of the original denominator had to be attended to at the outset, since the expansion for (a1x+b1y+c1z−t)−1 is not the same as for (b1y+c1z+a1x−t)−1. Now one general proposition to which Jacobi was led in the course of this investigation was that the coefficient ofx1−1x2−1x3−1…in the expansion ofy1−1u2−1u3−1…, whereis |a1b2c3…|−1, provided that in energy case the first term of uris that containing xr.

Presented in this paper is a solution in series form for the stresses in an infinite elastic solid which contains two rigid spherical inclusions of the same size. The stress field at infinity is assumed to be either hydrostatic tension or uniaxial tension in the direction of the common axis of the inclusions. The solution is based upon the Papkovich-Boussinesq displacement-function approach and makes use of the spherical dipolar harmonics developed by Sternberg and Sadowsky. The problem is closely related to, but turns out to be much more involved than, the corresponding problem of two spherical cavities solved by these authors.

This paper deals with the problem of optimal synchronization of two identical memristive chaotic systems. We first study some basic dynamical properties and behaviors of a memristor oscillator with a simple topology. An electronic circuit (analog simulator) is proposed to investigate the dynamical behavior of the system. An optimal synchronization strategy based on the controllability functions method with a mixed cost functional is investigated. A finite horizon is explicitly computed such that the chaos synchronization is achieved at an established time. Numerical simulations are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed synchronization strategy. Pspice analog circuit implementation of the complete master-slave-controller systems is also presented to show the feasibility of the proposed scheme.

Recently, it was demonstrated that two chaotic dynamical systems can synchronize each other, leading to interesting applications as secure communications. We propose in this paper a special class of dynamical systems, noninvertible discrete piecewise linear, emphasizing on interesting advantages they present compared with continuous and differentiable nonlinear ones. The generic aspect of such systems, the simplicity of numerical implementation, and the robustness to mismatch of technological parameters make them good candidates. The classical concept of controllability in the control theory is presented and used in order to choose and predict the number of appropriate variables to be transmitted for synchronization. A necessary and sufficient condition of chaotic synchronization is established without computing numerical quantities, introducing a state affinity structure of chaotic systems which provides an a priori establishment of synchronization.

The problem of chaos synchronization is to design a coupling between two chaotic systems (master-slave/drive-response systems configuration) such that the chaotic time evaluation becomes ideal and the output of the slave (response) system asymptotically follows the output of the master (drive) system. This paper has addressed the chaos synchronization problem of two chaotic systems using the Nonlinear Control Techniques, based on Lyapunov stability theory. It has been shown that the proposed schemes have outstanding transient performances and that analytically as well as graphically, synchronization is asymptotically globally stable. Suitable feedback controllers are designed to stabilize the closed-loop system at the origin. All simulation results are carried out to corroborate the effectiveness of the proposed methodologies by using Mathematica 9.
