The aim of this paper is to survey the decayed historic areas of Isfahan (DHI) in order to determine the relationship between housing satisfaction and quality of life. The related literature on quality of life was reviewed and WHOQOL-BREF model was selected for measuring the quality of life as a whole; also, 17 indicators depicting the housing domain of quality of life were chosen for the purposes of this study. A multi-stage sampling technique was applied to data collection. For data analysis, firstly, the data obtained on 17 indicators of housing domain of quality of life were analysed using factor analysis. The factors extracted are housing quality, housing space, security of tenure and housing affiliation. Secondly, a path diagram was applied to obtain the relation between housing satisfaction sub-domains and the domains of quality of life as a whole. The results indicate that the housing space was the most effective sub-domain of housing on the domains of quality of life as a whole. We also found that in order to improve the housing domain of quality of life in the DHI, due attention should be paid to housing quality factor and to improve quality of life as a whole in these areas, it is also necessary to pay attention to housing space factor.

This chapter challenges the nearly universal reliance upon standard mathematical probability for mathematical modeling of chance and uncertain phenomena, and offers four alternatives. In standard practice, precise assignments are made inappropriately, even to the occurrences of events that may be unobservable in principle. Four familiar examples of chance or uncertain phenomena are discussed, about which this is true. The theory of measurement provides an understanding of the relationship between the accuracy of information and the precision with which the phenomenon under examination should be modeled mathematically. The model of modal or classificatory probability offers the least precision. Comparative probability, plausibility/belief functions and upper/lower probabilities are carefully considered. The selectable precision of these alternative mathematical models of chance and uncertainty makes for an improved range of levels of accuracy in modeling the empirical domain phenomena of chance, uncertainty, and indeterminacy. Knowledge of such models encourages further thought in this direction.


In this manuscript has presented the results of applying modern methods of mathematical modeling in animal husbandry. To conduct the research has used the method of least squares, which has reflected in the work by approximation probabilistic non-linear relations, making it possible to establish the relationship between different measurements the body parts of animal and meat productivity, and linear measurements of the udder.

This study seeks to assess the impact of collaborative technologies on innovation at the firm level. Collaborative technologies’ influence on innovation is considered here as a multi-stage process that starts at adoption and extends to use. Thus, the effect of collaborative technologies on innovation is examined not only directly, the simple presence of collaborative technologies, but also based on actual collaborative technologies’ use. Given the fact that firms can use this technology for different purposes, collaborative technologies’ use is measured according to three orientations: e-information, e-communication and e-workflow. To achieve these objectives, a research model is developed for assessing, on the one hand, the impact of the adoption and use of collaborative technologies on innovation and, on the other hand, the relationship between adoption and use of collaborative technologies. The research model is tested using a dataset of 310 Spanish SMEs. The results showed that collaborative technologies’ adoption is positively related to innovation. Also, as hypothesized, distinct collaborative technologies were found to be associated to different uses. In addition, the study found that while e-information had a positive and significant impact on innovation, e-communication and e-workflow did not.

In current work methods of intellectual support of acceptance of administrative decisions on risks of occurrence of extreme situations are considered. The relationship between human activity, the emergence emergencies and the state of the environment is systemic. An important role is given to the analysis of the causes of incidents and emergencies of technogenic nature. Emergencies refers to complex multi-level systems, so a systematic approach is needed to model them. When choosing models of complex systems, factors related to the natural properties of the constituent elements and subsystems, and the patterns of the functioning of the system as a whole are investigated. Various methods of mathematical modeling are used to determine the risks of emergencies. The problem of optimization of decision-making algorithms in the event of emergencies is solved.

In order to describe resistivity variation regularities during the process of damage evolution of loading coal mass more comprehensively and accurately, electrical resistivity and acoustic emission (AE) characteristics of coal mass were tested by 3532-50 LCR tester and AMSY-6 AE data acquisition system under the condition of multi-stage loading, and resistivity variation characteristics were analyzed with stress changing. The damage evolution process of coal mass was studied by the measurement of the AE parameters, and the resistivity curve was obtained in the damage conditions based on the relationship between the AE damage variable and the resistivity. The results show that resistivity and stress curves of coal mass have a good correspondence during the multi-stage loading, and the resistivity shows a trend of fluctuating downward with the increasing of stress. The resistivity increases sharply to the maximum value when the load increases to the ultimate compressive strength of specimens. AE information can reveal effectively damage evolution process of microcracks formation, expansion and fracture in coal mass under external force, and during multi-stage loading, the cumulative AE ringing counts curve of coal mass have three different types of growth trends: stable stage, sudden change stage, gradual increasing stage. Meanwhile, the relationship between resistivity and AE damage variable is established based on the formula of damage variable under uniaxial compression and combined with continuous damage mechanics, and its rationality is verified.

<p>This study was designed to determine the influence of home learning on Chinese preschoolers’ literacy skills is likely to be moderated by the level of teacher’s teaching experience. There were 136 preschoolers aged ranged between three to six years old with their parents and teachers recruited in this study using a Multi-Stage Cluster sampling technique. The results of the Hierarchical Multiple Regression analysis indicate that teacher’s teaching experience has a significant moderating effect on the strengths of the relationship between home learning and preschoolers’ literacy skills. Further research is needed to investigate more deeply to identify whether these relationships are upheld over time and with diverse sample. </p>

Abstract The Cort-Fitness Hypothesis has generated much interest from investigators integrating field endocrinology with evolutionary biology, ecology, and conservation. The hypothesis was developed to test the assumption that if glucocorticoid levels increase with environmental challenges and fitness decreases with environmental challenges, then there should be a negative relationship between baseline glucocorticoid levels and fitness. Indeed, studies across diverse taxa have found that the relationship between baseline glucocorticoid levels and fitness are not consistent: some studies show a positive relationship, others negative, and some show no correlation. Hence, a deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying the relationship between baseline glucocorticoid levels, environmental challenges, and fitness is needed. We propose a mathematical model representing the links between baseline glucocorticoid levels, environmental challenges, and fitness. Our model describes how variation in the predictability and intensity of environmental challenges, reproductive strategies, and fitness metrics can all contribute to the variability observed in empirical tests of the Cort-Fitness Hypothesis. We provide qualitative results showing that much of the inconsistency in previous studies can be explained and we discuss how the model can be used to inform future Cort-Fitness studies.
