Zeolite templated carbon (ZTC), a structurally unique carbon material was used as new fillers for the preparation of composite polymeric membrane derived from BTDA-TDI/MDI (P84) co-polyimide. The thermal stability of membrane, the structure evolution, morphology and topology, as well as gas separation performance of modified membranes were investigated. Zeolite-Y, a hard template for ZTC, was synthesized via hydrothermal method. The ZTC was synthesized via impregnation of sucrose as carbon precursor into zeolite pore and followed by carbonization at 800°C. The zeolite template was removed through acid treatment to obtain ZTC, which was used as fillers for membrane preparation. The membrane was prepared using P84 co-polyimide as membrane precursor via phase inversion process. Synthesized materials were characterized using SEM, XRD, N2 adsorption-desorption isotherm and TEM. The thermal stability of membrane was improved by the addition of ZTC. As the result of ZTC loading into P84 co-polyimide membrane, the gas permeability of CO2 increased thirty-four times, as well as the CO2/CH4 selectivity boosted from 0.76 to 5.23.  The ordered pore structure in ZTC plays important role in increasing the permeability and selectivity performances of the P84 co-polyimide membrane.

In this presentation, we present the preparation and performance of ZnO gas sensors on glass substrates. The phase and microstructures of the prepared ZnO nanocrystals were characterized with the X-ray diffractometer and transmission electron microscope. The transient response characteristics of the ZnO based sensors were recorded at room temperatures in saturated ethanol gas. It has been observed that the ZnO sensors can be operated at room temperature.

Official statistical data on the structure, evolution and performance of the U.S. economy are produced by a variety federal, state and local agencies. Much of the methodology, policy frameworks and infrastructure for U.S. economic measurement have been in place for decades. There are growing concerns that the economy is evolving more rapidly than are the economic statistics we use to monitor it. We discuss both the challenges and opportunities to modernizing federal economic statistics. We describe an incremental approach that federal statistics agencies can follow to build a 21st century economic measurement system.

Structure evolution and electric properties of tantalum nitride ( TaN ) films deposited on Al 2 O 3-based ceramic and glass substrates by magnetron reactive sputtering were carried out as a function of the N 2-to- Ar flow ratio. The TaN thin films on Al 2 O 3-based ceramic substrates grow with micronclusters composed of numerous nanocrystallites, contains from single-phase of Ta 2 N grains to TaN , and exhibits high defect density, sheet resistance and negative TCR as the N 2-to- Ar flow ratio continuously increases. However, the films on the glass substrates grow in the way of sandwich close-stack, contains from single-phase of Ta 2 N grains to TaN and Ta 3 N 5 phases with the increase of N 2-to- Ar flow ratio. These results indicate that the N 2-to- Ar flow ratio and surface characteristic difference of substrates play a dominant effect on the structure and composition of the TaN films, resulting in different electrical properties for the films on Al 2 O 3-based ceramic and the samples on glass substrates.
