Assessment of the Visual Quality and Sapta Pesona Aspect on Bali Zoo Landscape in Singapadu Traditional Village, Gianyar. Bali Zoo is one of the artificial landscapes in the form of a zoo with educational, conservation, and tourism functions. This zoo has a vision to make Bali Zoo as an international zoo standards. Some efforts that can be done to realize the vision is by improving the aesthetic quality and aspects of sapta pesona. The assessment of visuals quality and aspects of sapta pesona in Bali Zoo aims to evaluate both visuals quality and sapta pesona aspect in the Bali Zoo landscape. Methods used in this research was field survey with observation, questionnaire, interview, and literature review techniques. The result was a description of the assessment of visuals quality and aspects of sapta pesona on Bali Zoo landscape, therewith recommendation that can be given in the form of recommendation might improve the visuals quality and aspects of sapta pesona on Bali Zoo landscape. It is concluded that the visuals quality and aspects of sapta pesona on Bali Zoo landscape were quite good and it can improve the aesthetic visuals quality of Bali Zoo landscape by improving the quality of landscape elements, whereas improving the aspects of sapta pesona from the elements of security, discipline, hygiene, beauty, coolness, friendliness, memory. These recommendation was suitable to apply by the manager, visitors and students.

Several scholars have focused on the different approaches in designing convivial urban spaces, but literary evidence shows that the essence of aesthetic design in public urban spaces, by referring to the main dimensions involved in the shaping of urban vitality, has not been adequately researched. In this regard, this study, by hypothesizing that the quality of urban design leads to a vital urban environment, focuses on urban vitality from the aesthetic point of view. Thus, in using qualitative grounded theory as a main methodological tool and using a systematic review of the related literature as the main induction approach for collecting qualitative data, five main dimensions of urban vitality, which are necessary to attain a correlation with the aesthetic quality of urban design, were conceptualized. The study concludes that the aesthetic design of an urban setting has a direct effect on the active involvement of its users and that this, therefore, has a direct consequence on the level of public urban vitality, manifested. Integrating the complexity theory with the five main dimensions used for assessing urban vitality was suggested as a viable area for further research.

Changes in landscape over a period of 50 years were analysed in a rural area of 324 ha in Central Finland. The data were digitized from aerial photographs of the National Land Survey taken in 1944, 1959, 1979 and 1991, and analysed with the IDRISI™ geographic information system (GIS). The average proportion of land in agricultural use in the sample area was 17.4%. The arable area declined from the maximum of 62.3 ha (1959) to 47.6 ha. The total length of linear landscape elements, predominantly ditch bank habitats, halved, from 876 m/ha of field (1944) to 449 m/ha by the end of the period. The average rate of loss of field boundary habitat was 9.1 m/ha/ year. At the same time, the Shannon-Weaver index of diversity of agricultural landscape elements dropped from 0.37 to 0.24. The number of field parcels declined by 29%, and the mean parcel size increased by 45%, from 1.2 ha to 1.7 ha. The index value of the fractal dimension measuring the complexity of parcel shapes also fell, from 1.88 (1959) to 1.86 (1991). The change in spatial structure reflects the intensification of farming in Finland. Biodiversity at ecosystem level has clearly declined. However, the implications for the agroecosystem and its sustainability are still unknown.

Integrating the art appreciation course into the talent cultivation plan of tobacco profession has become the major way for colleges and universities to implement aesthetic education. This is also one of the reform measures of public curriculum in colleges and universities in the new era. By clarifying the concept connotation and policy requirements of the art appreciation course, and combining the talent training characteristics of tobacco profession, the construction of tobacco profession can be promoted. By doing this, on the one hand, it is conducive to consolidating the talent training plan of tobacco profession. On the other hand, it can cultivate the artistic ability of students majoring in tobacco, expand their artistic knowledge, and effectively build up their aesthetic quality and artistic level. As the consequence, the talent training quality of tobacco profession can be improved.

The article presents selected methodological assumptions of developing and evaluating landscape attribute maps that could be used in the process of the implementation of the European Landscape Convention (ELC). The Convention led to the passing of the Act of 24th April 2015 on the modification of some acts due to the enhancement of landscape protection tools. Article 7 implements changes in the Act of 23rd March 2003 on spatial planning and land use management. Determining general rules for landscape auditing and defining the priority landscape are elements of the changes. On 11th September 2015, the regulations that partially carry out the recommendation of the Convention entered into force. The regulations oblige local governments to conduct landscape auditing (not less often than every 20 years). The article presents a new method for evaluating the aesthetic-scenic value of landscape (EEVL), developed by the author on the basis of conceptual works done between 2004 and 2008. Tests of this method started in 2008. Then an assessment of the aesthetic value of the municipality of Pozezdrze in the Masurian Lake District was made. The three measurements, collected in 2008, 2012 and 2016, were then used in comparing the dynamics of landscape transformations considering the aesthetic value over 8 years. The research enabled the assessment of the usefulness of the method in landscape auditing.

Leaf senescence induced by prolonged light deficiency is inevitable whenever turfgrass is cultivated in forests, and this negatively influences the survival and aesthetic quality of the turfgrass. However, the mechanism underlying dark-induced senescence in turfgrass remained obscure. In this study, RNA sequencing was performed to analyze how genes were regulated in response to dark-induced leaf senescence in bermudagrass. A total of 159,207 unigenes were obtained with a mean length of 948 bp. The differential expression analysis showed that a total of 59,062 genes, including 52,382 up-regulated genes and 6680 down-regulated genes were found to be differentially expressed between control leaves and senescent leaves induced by darkness. Subsequent bioinformatics analysis showed that these differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were mainly related to plant hormone (ethylene, abscisic acid, jasmonic acid, auxin, cytokinin, gibberellin, and brassinosteroid) signal transduction, N-glycan biosynthesis, and protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum. In addition, transcription factors, such as WRKY, NAC, HSF, and bHLH families were also responsive to dark-induced leaf senescence in bermudagrass. Finally, qRT-PCR analysis of six randomly selected DEGs validated the accuracy of sequencing results. Taken together, our results provide basic information of how genes respond to darkness, and contribute to the understanding of comprehensive mechanisms of dark-induced leaf senescence in turfgrass.

Bach created a sense of counterpoint in his unaccompanied string works by outlining multiple voices within a single instrumental line. In order to better understand the construction and function of this implied polyphony, an analytical system was developed that provides guidelines for determining where transitions between implied voices occur. Two experiments then investigated how implied polyphony affects the perceived aesthetic quality of these pieces. The hypothesis was that Bach used implied polyphony to create “structural expression,” something that would enhance the melody’s appeal without the aid of performer expressivity. Statistical analysis of the results confirmed that passages containing implied polyphony are indeed considered more engaging than those that were recomposed to diminish the sense of counterpoint. Results also suggest, however, that all instances of implied polyphony do not have the same perceptual effect. Listener’s judgments of engagingness were significantly affected when the implied polyphony created simultaneous, linear streams, but not when it created a sense of successive grouping structure.
