The issue of solid waste management through recycling programs in our country has long been debated. However, the issue is still not taken the proper attention. recycling rate is still low at only 11 per cent compared to developed countries has reached 70 percent. The situation is alarming because its impact on health and sanitation as well as an area of the landfill is increasingly limited. Therefore, one of the steps that can be taken to solve the problem is through the implementation of various recycling programs in schools. This study was conducted to identify the perception and involvement of various recycling programs. Recycling is an effort to collect, process and reuse of materials use. This study uses a design review by applying the quantitative approach. Data were analyzed using SPSS by using the questionnaire. Descriptive statistics with the percentage obtained for use in the analysis of the study. The sample involves four students who were randomly selected in a secondary school in order to get feedback on the implementation of a recycling program. The results showed that students know the various recycling programs and they are well aware of the importance of recycling for analyzing the theories, but this practice is quite difficult. The overall analysis shows that perception and involvement of the recycling program is low. Therefore, all parties should school their energy and effort to make students aware of the importance of the implementation of recycling programs in order to solve the garbage problem in the school which in turn foster the practice of recycling among students. It is expected that the school can design a comprehensive new approach to attract the attention and interest of students to the various recycling programs, as well as to educate students to love the environment and maintain the cleanliness of the school grounds.

Abstract. Municipal waste management in the last two decades has become aglobal environmental priority in the context of increasing amounts of wastegenerated due to the development of a mass consumer society. Various issuesof waste management , territorial and temporal variability, spatialanalysis of treatment or disposal facilities, systemic implications on theenvironment, the harmonization of international policy at national,regional and local level are solid arguments forstudying this field by geography. Mostly technical or economic studies,lacking a vision of territory are supplemented in the conceptual andmethodological level by geographers. This paper performed on the one hand,an overview of various approaches in current literature on waste managementissue and onanother hand analyses the geographical contributions in this field. Ourconclusions lead to the idea that waste management must be performedaccording to the geographical features of the territory concerned.

This paper reviews the current practice and challenges of community participation on waste segregation program in Jasin Malacca since 2015-2017. The Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing (Act 672) which came into force on 1st September 2011, is Governments’ effort to provide a systematic, coordinated, effective and efficient solid waste management system in Malaysia including Malacca.. Since then, there has been significance increase on the amount recycle waste collected. However, the community participation on solid waste segregation and recycling program still at low level due to lack of awareness, attitude and exposure on the advantages of recycling in the long term. Thirty preliminary questionnaires were distributed randomly at resident’s housing area in Jasin and analysed through Average Index (AI) method. The result obtained shows the current challenges of the community in performing the waste segregation at source. From the result, further study will be conducted to discover new approach on promoting waste segregation which could provide the basis for success of 3R program in Malacca.

Aluminum alloys offer high specific strength than advanced high strength steels, making them preferred candidates for automotive light weighting. Among them, AA7075 aluminum alloy offers significantly higher strength than 5xxx and 6xxx alloys and is considered an attractive candidate by automotive OEMs for structural applications such as door intrusion beams, B pillars etc. There are several challenges in implementing AA7075, such as long artificial aging time to reach peak strength, joining method and corrosion resistance. In this study, an artificial aging practice that significantly reduces aging time was explored and its influence on mechanical properties of AA7075 was investigated in comparison with conventional peak age practice. In addition, this practice offers a potential solution for joining through self-piercing riveting. Moreover, the effect of artificial aging on corrosion, specifically intergranular corrosion (IGC) and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) was evaluated. The results are discussed with in depth analysis and correlation with microstructure.

Impact resistance is an inevitable characteristic of the composites employed in the high performance structural applications. Due to the growing interest in the use of sisal fibre as reinforcement in the polymer composites, it is required to determine the response of sisal/epoxy composites to low velocity impact at high incident energies where perforation can occur and assess the damage characteristics using a non-destructive technique. In this work, sisal/epoxy composites were subjected to drop weight impact in the velocity range of 3 m/s to 5 m/s at different energy levels between 20 J to 50 J according to the ASTM D7136. Based on the results observed, it is concluded that both the peak load and absorbed energy increased with the increasing incident energy level up to 40 J. At 50 J, perforation occurred and the maximum deformation was approximately 22 mm for the sisal/ epoxy composite. Damage characteristics and failure behaviour of the composite at different incident energies was examined from the visual images of the front and back face of the composite. The quantitative assessment of crack propagation in the sisal/epoxy composite and the damage area were determined from the ultrasonic C-scan images of the sample post impact at various energy levels.

Fibres anisotropy and their poor adhesion to the epoxy matrix are challenges in developing polymeric epoxy composite for structural applications. Filling of epoxy with reinforcing particles has potential for producing isotropic composites. In this study, epoxy-aluminium particulate composites were developed through combined-stir-techniques. Their interfacial adhesion and microstructural properties were examined. Results obtained indicated bonding of aluminium particles to epoxy through bidentate coordinate bond. Variations observed in the Fourier Transform Infrared spectrographs (FTIR) of both composites’ grades confirm discrepancies in interactions of aluminium micro and nanoparticles with epoxy. A good interfacial adhesion of aluminium nanoparticle with epoxy established by both optical and scanning electron microscopes is an indication of good mechanical performance of the epoxy composites.

Nowadays, polymeric composites reinforced with natural fibers are being considered in the civil engineering area. The use of polymeric composites to reinforce degraded timber structures can improve its behavior. Fibers with larger structural applications are glass and carbon but the use of natural fibers is an economical alternative and posses many advantages such as biodegradability, low cost and is derived from natural and renewable sources. Epoxy composite reinforced with sisal fabric was processed by resin transfer molding (RTM) at room temperature and this work studies thermal behavior and its respective mechanism of thermal decomposition. Samples of sisal fiber, epoxy resin and sisal/epoxy composite were characterized by Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). Thermogravimetric curves showed that sisal fibers can be used in manufacturing process where the processing temperature does not exceed 177°C and shown that the epoxy resin has the greatest stability material followed by sisal/epoxy composite.
