A numerical investigation of the propulsion performance and hydrodynamic characters of the full-active flapping foil under time-varying freestream is conducted. The finite volume method is used to calculate the unsteady Reynolds averaged Navier–Stokes by commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software Fluent. A mesh of two-dimensional (2D) NACA0012 foil with the Reynolds number Re = 42,000 is used in all simulations. We first investigate the propulsion performance of the flapping foil in the parameter space of reduced frequency and pitching amplitude at a uniform flow velocity. We define the time-varying freestream as a superposition of steady flow and sinusoidal pulsating flow. Then, we study the influence of time-varying flow velocity on the propulsion performance of flapping foil and note that the influence of the time-varying flow is time dependent. For one period, we find that the oscillating amplitude and the oscillating frequency coefficient of the time-varying flow have a significant influence on the propulsion performance of the flapping foil. The influence of the time-varying flow is related to the motion parameters (reduced frequency and pitching amplitude) of the flapping foil. The larger the motion parameters, the more significant the impact of propulsion performance of the flapping foil. For multiple periods, we note that the time-varying freestream has little effect on the propulsion performance of the full-active flapping foil at different pitching amplitudes and reduced frequency. In summary, we conclude that the time-varying incoming flow has little effect on the flapping propulsion performance for multiple periods. We can simplify the time-varying flow to a steady flow field to a certain extent for numerical simulation.

This paper studies the measurement of motion parameters of a parachute scanning platform. The movement of a parachute scanning platform has fast rotational velocity and a complex attitude. Therefore, traditional measurement methods cannot measure the motion parameters accurately, and thus fail to satisfy the requirements for the measurement of parachute scanning platform motion parameters. In order to solve these problems, a method for measuring the motion parameters of a parachute scanning platform based on a combination of magnetic and inertial sensors is proposed in this paper. First, scanning motion characteristics of a parachute-terminal-sensitive projectile are analyzed. Next, a high-precision parachute scanning platform attitude measurement device is designed to obtain the data of magnetic and inertial sensors. Then the extended Kalman filter is used to filter and observe errors. The scanning angle, the scanning angle velocity, the falling velocity, and the 2D scanning attitude are obtained. Finally, the accuracy and feasibility of the algorithm are analyzed and validated by MATLAB simulation, semi-physical simulation, and airdrop experiments. The presented research results can provide helpful references for the design and analysis of parachute scanning platforms, which can reduce development time and cost.

AbstractHigh-quality medical ultrasound imaging is definitely concerning motion blur, while medical image analysis requires motionless and accurate data acquired by sonographers. The main idea of this paper is to establish some motion blur invariant in both frequency and moment domain to estimate the motion parameters of ultrasound images. We propose a discrete model of point spread function of motion blur convolution based on the Dirac delta function to simplify the analysis of motion invariant in frequency and moment domain. This model paves the way for estimating the motion angle and length in terms of the proposed invariant features. In this research, the performance of the proposed schemes is compared with other state-of-the-art existing methods of image deblurring. The experimental study performs using fetal phantom images and clinical fetal ultrasound images as well as breast scans. Moreover, to validate the accuracy of the proposed experimental framework, we apply two image quality assessment methods as no-reference and full-reference to show the robustness of the proposed algorithms compared to the well-known approaches.

During the recent period intensive research has focused on the advancement of engineering and technology aspects concerning the development and optimization of wave and current energy converters driven by the need to increase the percentage of marine renewable sources in the energy-production mix, particularly from offshore installations. Most stream energy-harvesting devices are based on hydro-turbines, and their performance is dependent on the ratio of the blade-tip speed to incident-flow speed. As the oncoming speed of natural-occurring currents varies randomly, there is a penalty for the latter device’s performance when operating at non-constant tip-speed ratio away from the design value. Unlike conventional turbines that are characterized by a single degree of freedom rotating around an axis, a novel concept is examined concerning hydrokinetic energy converters based on oscillating hydrofoils. The biomimetic device includes a rotating, vertically mounted, biomimetic wing, supported by an arm linked at a pivot point on the mid-chord. Activated by a controllable self-pitching motion the system performs angular oscillations around the vertical axis in incoming flow. In this work, the performance of the above flapping-foil, biomimetic flow energy harvester is investigated by application of a semi-3D model based on unsteady hydrofoil theory and the results are verified by comparison to experimental data and a 3D boundary element method based on vortex rings. By systematical application of the model the power extraction and efficiency of the system is presented for various cases including different geometric, mechanical, and kinematic parameters, and the optimal performance of the system is determined.

Fabric shape style is one of the most important conditions in textile appearance evaluation, and also the main factor influences customer purchasing psychology. At first, the previous fabric shape style evaluation methods are classified and summarized, measurement and evaluation method discussed from tactic and dynamic aspects. Then, companied with computer vision principle, a non-contact method for measuring fabric shape style was put forward. In this method, two high-speed CCD cameras were used to capture fabric movement dynamically, fabric sequences image were obtained in this process. Used the image processing technology include pretreatment and feature point matching to get 3D motion parameters, it can provide data supports for shape style evaluation.

Forced flow of an electrically conducting Newtonian fluid due to an exponentially stretching sheet is studied numerically. Free stream velocity is present and so is suction at the sheet. The governing coupled, nonlinear, partial differential equations of flow and heat transfer are converted into coupled, nonlinear, ordinary differential equations by similarity transformation and are solved numerically using shooting method, and curve fitting on the data is done by differential transform method together with Padé approximation. Prescribed exponential order surface temperature (PEST) and prescribed exponential order surface heat flux are considered for investigation of heat transfer related quantities. The influence of Chandrasekhar number, suction/injection parameter, and freestream parameter on heat transport is presented and discussed. Coefficient of friction and heat transport is also evaluated in the study. The results are of interest in extrusions and such other processes.
