Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers are widely used for evaluating the genetic relationship of crop germplasm. Five different landraces of yacon (Smallantus sonchifolius (Poepp. and Hendl.) H. Robinson; Asteraceae) collected in various countries and showing different morphological traits were investigated using a total of 61 decamer primers. A total of 282 RAPD markers were scored and 28.7% of them were polymorphic at least within landraces. RAPD markers generated by one primer (OBP14) discriminated between all landraces. Markers were used to calculate genetic similarity coefficient and to build a dendrogram representing the genetic relationship between analysed landraces. The results suggest that RAPD markers could be used as a reliable tool to perform fingerprinting studies in Smallantus sonchifolius genome. This is the first report on the use of RAPDs to evaluate genetic distance and to distinguish between different landraces in yacon.

Karakter bentuk telinga daun berkontribusi paling besar terhadap keragaman total.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Genetic Relationship of Sugarcane Germplasm from Study on Morphological Characters</strong><br /><br />Morphological characterization of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) is required to support superior variety improvement by identification of germplasm resources. The purpose of this research was to know the diversity and genetic relationship of sugarcane germplasm from exploration in Java, based on morphological data as a contribution in the plant breeding process. The clustering analysis was done on Minitab 15 software by the complete linkage method or the greatest distance for 105 sugarcane accessions. The results showed there have 8 major components with the 75.4% of diversity proportion. While, clustering analysis for 105 sugarcane accession was divided into 15 groups with 60% degree of similarity. Shape of auricle had significant contribution to the total diversity of sugarcane. <br />Keywords: Saccharum officinarum, germplasm, morphology, genetic relationship</p>

Echinodermata is a phylum of marine invertebrates which has been extant since Cambrian time (c.a. 500 m.y. before the present). Modern examples of echinoderms include sea urchins, sea stars, and sea lilies (crinoids). The endoskeletons of echinoderms are composed of plates or ossicles (Fig. 1) which are with few exceptions, porous, single crystals of high-magnesian calcite. Despite their single crystal nature, fracture surfaces do not exhibit the near-perfect {10.4} cleavage characteristic of inorganic calcite. This paradoxical mix of biogenic and inorganic features has prompted much recent work on echinoderm skeletal crystallography. Furthermore, fossil echinoderm hard parts comprise a volumetrically significant portion of some marine limestones sequences. The ultrastructural and microchemical characterization of modern skeletal material should lend insight into: 1). The nature of the biogenic processes involved, for example, the relationship of Mg heterogeneity to morphological and structural features in modern echinoderm material, and 2). The nature of the diagenetic changes undergone by their ancient, fossilized counterparts. In this study, high resolution TEM (HRTEM), high voltage TEM (HVTEM), and STEM microanalysis are used to characterize tha ultrastructural and microchemical composition of skeletal elements of the modern crinoid Neocrinus blakei.

The increasing emergence of antimicrobial resistance has become a global issue. Therefore, many researchers have attempted to develop alternative antibiotics. One promising alternative is bacteriophage. In this study, we focused on a jumbo-phage infecting Salmonella isolated from exotic pet markets. Using a Salmonella strain isolated from reptiles as a host, we isolated and characterized the novel jumbo-bacteriophage pSal-SNUABM-04. This phage was investigated in terms of its morphology, host infectivity, growth and lysis kinetics, and genome. The phage was classified as Myoviridae based on its morphological traits and showed a comparatively wide host range. The lysis efficacy test showed that the phage can inhibit bacterial growth in the planktonic state. Genetic analysis revealed that the phage possesses a 239,626-base pair genome with 280 putative open reading frames, 76 of which have a predicted function and 195 of which have none. By genome comparison with other jumbo phages, the phage was designated as a novel member of Machinavirus composed of Erwnina phages.

AbstractS-box is the basic component of symmetric cryptographic algorithms, and its cryptographic properties play a key role in security of the algorithms. In this paper we give the distributions of Walsh spectrum and the distributions of autocorrelation functions for (n + 1)-bit S-boxes in [12]. We obtain the nonlinearity of (n + 1)-bit S-boxes, and one necessary and sufficient conditions of (n + 1)-bit S-boxes satisfying m-order resilient. Meanwhile, we also give one characterization of (n + 1)-bit S-boxes satisfying t-order propagation criterion. Finally, we give one relationship of the sum-of-squares indicators between an n-bit S-box S0 and the (n + 1)-bit S-box S (which is constructed by S0).
