Abstract Our linguistic communication often takes the form of creating texts. In this paper, we propose that creating texts or ‘texting’ is a form of joint action. We examine the nature and evolution of this joint action. We argue that creating texts ushers in a special type of joint action, which, while lacking some central features of normal, everyday joint actions such as spatio-temporal collocation of agency and embodiment, nonetheless results in an authentic, strong, and unique type of joint action agency. This special type of agency is already present in creating texts in general and is further augmented in creating texts through digital media. We propose that such a unique type of joint action agency has a transformative effect on the experience of our sense of agency and subjectivity. We conclude with the implications of the proposal for social cognition and social agency. The paper combines research in philosophy of mind with the emerging fields of digital humanities and text technology.

AbstractWe investigated whether children at the ages of two and three years understand that a speaker's use of the definite article specifies a referent that is in common ground between speaker and listener. An experimenter and a child engaged in joint actions in which the experimenter chose one of three similar objects of the same category to perform an action. In subsequent interactions children were asked to get ‘the X’ or ‘a X’. When children were instructed with the definite article they chose the shared object significantly more often than when they were instructed with the indefinite article in which case children's choice was at chance. The findings show that in their third year children use shared experiences to interpret the speaker's communicative intention underlying her referential choice. The results are discussed with respect to children's representation of linguistic categories and the role of joint action for establishing common ground.

A computer project in the world and in Russia is now usually viewed as an economic, technological or military one. At the same time, it is a global social project. From the theory of the humanitarian and technological revolution, it follows that at the current point of bifurcation, its results can determine the path of humanity to the future. I show that the results of this project reflect the readiness of civilizations for socio-technological change. The COVID-19 pandemic turned out to be a test for social imperatives and had a huge impact on computer reality in the formation of a new sociality. Book by K. Schwab, T. Mallerert “COVID-19: The great reset” represents a variant of such sociality. The analysis presented in this work shows the unacceptability of the proposed changes for the world of Russia. A study of large-scale computer projects in Russia and Belarus shows the need to bring them to a new sociocultural level, much higher than the current one. The unsuccessful experience of mass e-education in the Union State confirmed the imperative of Norbert Wiener: “Render unto man the things which are man’s and unto the computer the things which are the computer’s”. This should, apparently, be a reasonable line of behavior in organizing joint actions of people and machines.

<p><em>Since the ECSC Treaty signed in Paris in 1951, marking the beginning of the commun destiny of the first international integration organization until the most recent decisions, such as the single currency or the immigration policies, it is a matter of fact that European Union progresses only with harmonious dialogue and joint actions, built on mutual respect of others’ differences. Nowadays, in the </em><em>rapidly changing societies, financial concurrence and geopolitical stakes together with arrogance, or dominance, often outweigh the plurilingual communication, thereby leading to worries about linguistic equality within the Union; hence, the subject of the present stydy. Communication in this polyglottic supranational union should be based on an equal pattern, without what the impact of English as lingua franca<a title="" href="file:///F:/JOURNAL%20BA%20TEIEP%201/PAPER_HATZIDAKI.doc#_ftn1"><strong>[1]</strong></a> may be contested and criticised. Abstract Directional motion plays a crucial role in various mechanical systems. Although mechanisms for nanoscale directional motion have been widely used in many aspects of nanotechnology, it remains a great challenge to generate continuous and controllable motion at the nanoscale. Herein we propose a nanoscale continuous directional motion in cyclic thermal fields by using a double-walled system which consists of an outer BN/C heterojunction nanotube and a concentric inner carbon nanotube (CNT). By manipulating the heating region of the outer BN/C heterojunction tube, the continuous motion of the inner CNT can be realized with ease. The inner CNT demonstrates three distinct movements due to the joint actions of the asymmetric thermal gradient forces and interlayer attraction forces caused by the presence of the outer BN/C heterojunction nanotube. The mechanism revealed in the present study may be useful in designing novel devices for energy conversion and directional transportation.

This paper is aimed at studying the interaction of the states of Northern Europe in the field of culture and education — one of the fundamentally important areas of northern European integration. Cooperation in these areas is actively developing not only due to common cultural and historical values and roots of the northern countries, but also has clear pragmatic goals. So, it carries out an important utilitarian function — the development of a common labor market in the Northern Europe region, which is largely possible thanks to the joint actions of the integration member countries aimed at the evolution of a common space in the field of culture, language and education. The effectiveness of the existing forms and mechanisms of interaction in the above areas depends on the effectiveness of training highly skilled labor and facilitating the adaptation of migrants from one state to another, both of which are part of the region. In this chapter, the triangulation analysis of connections between older adults, relevant stakeholders, and community will be made in order to acknowledge the challenges resulting from demographic changes, identify the gaps in current health and social policy in the field of geriatric care, and outline the pathways for joint actions to achieve successful aging. This analysis will also consider health and health equity drivers, highlighting the relevance of the community-led ecosystem in the spreading and scaling up of the person-centered and integrated healthcare model. By focusing on frailty and frailty-related consequences, this chapter will reflect on the need for implementing joint actions that promote health throughout the lifecycle and that empower citizens for informed decision making. It will also discuss the role of modern societies in creating innovative solutions for successful aging.

Abstract In joint performances spanning from jazz improvisation to soccer, expert performers synchronize their movements in ways that novices cannot. Particularly, experts can align the velocity profiles of their movements in order to achieve synchrony on a fine-grained time scale, compared to novices who can only synchronize the duration of their movement intervals. This study investigated how experts’ ability to engage in velocity-based synchrony affects observers’ perception of coordination and their aesthetic experience of joint performances. Participants observed two moving dots on a screen and were told that these reflect the hand movements of two performers engaging in joint improvisation. The dots were animated to reflect the velocity-based synchrony characteristic of expert performance (in terms of jitter of the velocity profile: Experiment 1, or through aligning sharpness of the velocity profile: Experiment 2) or contained only interval-based synchrony. Performances containing velocity-based synchrony were judged as more coordinated with performers rated as liking each other more, and were rated as more beautiful, providing observers with a stronger aesthetic experience. These findings demonstrate that subtle timing cues fundamentally shape the experience of watching joint actions, directly influencing how beautiful and enjoyable we find these interactions, as well as our perception of the relationship between co-actors.
