Three problems will be discussed: A) The relationship between mlcro-meteoroids and solar flare particles averaged over the recent geologic past (~1 my); B) the past record of this relationship as measured in lunar soils and lunar and meteoritic breccias; C) the determination of the time at which different extraterrestrial samples were exposed to free space. Data bearing on these points obtained from studies of special lunar rocks and from measurements on individual crystals removed from lunar cores will be presented. Progress in using ion-probe mass spectrometry to link measurements of micro-impact craters with the past properties of the solar wind will also be discussed. Comparing microcraters and solar flare tracks in individual crystals from lunar cores, we find no evidence of any extraordinary variations for a time span covering an interval of ~109 yrs. Crystals 100µ to 400µ in size in mature lunar soil samples appear to have been exposed 3 to free space at the top of the lunar regolith for times from 103 to 104 yrs.

The publication includes V.Ya. Bryusov’s letters to his fiancée I.M. Runt (1876 –1965) from June 9 to September 9, 1897. 11 correspondences, including the final telegram sent from Kursk, were written and sent from Aachen (Germany), Moscow and several Ukrainian localities. The letter 10 is accompanied by the full text of I.M. Runt’s only surviving letter to Bryusov, sent from Moscow to the village of Bolshye Sorochintsy and received by the poet a few months later at home. The relationship between the young people before the wedding were complicated. While the poet was preparing for the wedding in Moscow, he summed up the past contacts with “mes amantes”, and his state of mind was painful. Shortly before meeting his future wife, Bryusov broke up with the former governess of his family E.I. Pavlovskaya, who was terminally ill. A few days before the wedding he decided to go to say goodbye to Pavlovskaya to her homeland, Ukraine. In his letters to the future wife the poet tried to smooth out the tension of the situation, perhaps anticipating that he would be bounded with I.M. Runt 30 Литературный факт. 2021. № 2 (20) by a long-term relationship, where life and literature are closely interconnected. The letters are published for the first time.

One of the most important problems facing Greece is the long-term and high-level unemployment rate. The Economic Adjustment Programmes (EAPs) focused on the supply side of the economy, aiming at the adjustment of prices and wages, draw on the classical economic model, as it is widely accepted that internal devaluation policies keep inflation low. This article attempts to examine whether the Keynesian theory and the Phillips Curve, which shows the relationship between unemployment and inflation, apply in the case of the Greek economy. We use descriptive statistics, ordinary least squares (OLS) and VAR Analysis to examine the relationship between the variables. According to the results, there is a negative correlation between unemployment and inflation in Greece, thus confirming the Phillips Curve hypothesis. Finally, results show that unemployment is less dependent on inflation compared with the past, and there are numerous other decisive factors affecting unemployment.

In early 2018, the Polish parliament adopted controversial legislation criminalising assertions regarding the complicity of the ‘Polish Nation’ and the ‘Polish State’ in the Holocaust. The so-called Polish Holocaust Law provoked not only a heated debate in Poland, but also serious international tensions. As a result, it was amended only five months after its adoption. The reason why it is worth taking a closer look at the socio-cultural foundations and political functions of the short-lived legislation is twofold. Empirically, the short history of the Law reveals a great deal about the long-term role of Jews in the Polish collective memory as an unmatched Significant Other. Conceptually, the short life of the Law, along with its afterlife, helps capture poll-driven, manifestly moralistic and anti-pluralist imaginings of the past, which I refer to as ‘mnemonic populism’. By exploring the relationship between popular and political images of the past in contemporary Poland, this article argues for joining memory and populism studies in order to better understand what can happen to history in illiberal surroundings.

The article provides an analytical review and analysis of stresses and deformations of parts moving at high speeds in a liquid or gas. The working conditions of materials and parts of turbines (blades, rotor and casing) operating at high temperatures and loads are analyzed. The main ways of solving the problem of ensuring the strength of such parts are presented. The main ways to solve the problem of reliability of parts or the product as a whole are given: mathematical modeling (calculated determination of strength, durability and reliability); physical modeling (model testing); testing of full-scale products in reproducible real or operational conditions.It is impossible to speak about the strength of a part only from the calculation of deformations and stresses, even taking into account their change over time, so it is necessary to have strength criteria that establish the relationship between the strength parameters. It is emphasized that in the general case, the criterion of strength should answer the question: will the part collapse or not with the known laws of change in time of stresses, strains and temperatures It is shown that the considered standard characteristics of creep and long-term strength can be directly used in calculations only for those parts in which the uniaxial stress state at constant stresses and temperature is realized, when the working conditions of the material fully meet the test conditions of materials.An analytical view of deformation diagrams is considered as the main means of carrying out practical calculations of material strength. It is shown that in order to determine the stresses and strains in parts that move at high speeds in a liquid or gas, it is necessary to take into account the model of parts exploitation, the processes of creep and thermal fatigue of the material, and the unsteadiness of load processes. Both psychedelics and mindfulness are a recently emerging topic of interest in academia and popular culture alike. Personal meditation practices and recreational psychedelic use have consistently increased in the past decade. While clinical work has shown both to improve long-term wellbeing, the data on naturalistic applications of psychedelics and mindfulness is rather lacking. The current study aims to examine the relationship between psychedelic use, mindfulness, and multi-faceted wellbeing as an outcome. Hierarchical regression was used to quantify these associations on a large sample of people (N = 1219), who engage in both meditation practices and psychedelic use. These results show that both mindfulness and mystical experiences each predict substantial increases in wellbeing. Psychedelics were found to be an important moderator of mystical experience to explain improvements in wellbeing. These data are among the first to establish a strong relationship between personal mindfulness practice, recreational psychedelic use, and overall psychological wellbeing in a naturalistic framework.

In Malaysia, the introduction of the Islamic calligraphy, especially after the spread of Islam in the 14th century has impacted on the further development of decorative art in the built environment. While Islamic calligraphy has witnessed significant developments in the past decades, it still lacks a profiling classification system of calligraphy scripts that give impact to the contemporary mosque. The objectives of the study are to analyse the visual qualities of the calligraphy scripts in the mosque components and its compositional categories and to determine the relationship between the calligraphy placement and the mosque architecture within the interior and exterior fabrics of the buildings. This research involved an analytical review of the Islamic calligraphy found in the 10 selected mosques in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and their depiction in various components. Face-to-face interviews with the mosque authorities and local calligraphers on the types and styles of scripts used in the mosque components were conducted as a complementary measure to the analytical method. The analysis reveals the application of cursive and angular style of scripts, fabricated in specified shapes, sizes and dimensions of the mosque components. Selection and depiction of calligraphy, especially in Thuluth and Kufi scripts suggest their strong preference to the traditional major styles ranging from its composition to the determination of its positional layout regardless of differences in the mosque architecture style.

Can reminders of violence committed in the past influence citizens’ policy preferences in the present? Prior work has found that under the threat of violence individuals prioritize safety and adopt policy views aimed at reducing the threat. Elites can then strategically employ concerns over personal safety and security to shape the public’s preferences. I contribute to this literature by conducting an exploratory study of whether invocations of violence committed in the past shape preferences in the long-term, years after the actual violence has ended. To do so, I fielded an experiment on a large ( N = 1125) and nationally representative sample of respondents in Bosnia, the site of a major ethnic civil war in 1992–1995. I did not find evidence that reminders of wartime violence in and of themselves affect policy preferences. Ultimately, this study represents a first cut at a neglected question in the literature and has implications that could motivate future research on the relationship between violent conflict and policy preferences.

Situated on the southeastern coast at 34�S 151�E, Sydney was established in 1788 as Australia's first permanent European settlement. Clearing of natural vegetation and environmental degradation associated with the country's largest population concentration over the past 200 years have severely affected the nearby Hawkesbury-Nepean River. A strategy for rehabilitation of the riparian vegetation to conserve and enhance the natural conditions remaining along the river, with particular emphasis on habitat and natural biodiversity, has been developed. The study area encompassed the most modified part of the river, where it passes alternately through 80 km of sandstone terrain, where the natural vegetation of waterside scrub backed by open-forest remains largely unchanged, and 135 km of floodplain terrain, where most of the indigenous tall open-forest has been cleared and associated wetlands have been greatly modified. Indigenous riparian zone vegetation was recognized as critical to the maintenance of river health, providing a reservoir of biodiversity as a major value, upon which other values, including enhancement of water quality, bank stablility and erosion control, depend. As 47 per cent of study area riverbank was found to have less than 25 per cent tree cover, the strategy recommended that all remnant native vegetation and remnant native trees along the river be protected and that a substantial long-term aim should be the establishment of a 50-metre wide strip of native riparian forest vegetation on each bank along the full length of the river, to be linked ultimately with other areas of natural vegetation on the floodplain. To provide practical resources for revegetation, the strategy assembled a botanical database, including maps showing present tree cover and the past extent of floodplain vegetation types, descriptions and locations of sites where significant native riparian vegetation remains, ecological information on approximately 300 locally indigenous riparian and wetland plant species, guidelines on selection of appropriate species, replanting methods and determination of priorities at both site and landscape scale.

AbstractSince the discovery of the first rapidly oscillating Ap (roAp) star in 1978 by Kurtz, this class of magnetic chemically-peculiar pulsators has grown to over two dozen. The eigenfrequency spectra of roAp stars (with periods of ∼ 6 – 15 min) are consistent with nonradial p- modes of low degree and high overtone n, not unlike the Sun's five-minute oscillations seen in integrated light. However, unlike the Sun, the strong global dipole fields of roAp stars significantly affect the pulsations.Although much of the effort in the last decade has been towards detecting new roAp candidates and refining the frequencies of known variables, initial “seismic” analyses have already yielded important results. Measurements of fundamental frequency spacings constrain the luminosities and radii of some roAp stars. In addition, mode splitting provides: (1) an independent determination of rotation period, even in the absence of longer-term light variations; (2) limits on the rotational inclination i and magnetic obliquity β; and (3) an indication of the relative internal field strengths of certain roAp stars. Very recently, the temperature - optical depth structure of the atmosphere of HR 3831 was inferred from optical and IR photometry of its oscillations.Judging from current developments, the next decade promises exciting results on both observational and theoretical fronts. Several roAp stars have now been monitored for over a decade, allowing us to investigate long-term period changes due to evolution, binarity, etc. Eigenfrequency models for stars in the mass and radius range appropriate for Ap stars are becoming available, as well as explicit treatments of the perturbations due to magnetic fields. Armed with these, we may be able to place some roAp stars on a theoretical (or “asteroseismological H-R“) diagram to derive independently their masses and main-sequence ages.

B. P. Konstantinov and G. E. Kocharov (1965, 1967) addressed the complex problem of astrophysical phenomena and radiocarbon. Currently available data show that the determination of cosmogenic 14C in accurately dated samples of terrestrial and atmospheric origin is one of the most reliable and promising methods for studying cosmic-ray variations in the past. 14C dating samples of terrestrial origin has helped solve the problem of long-term (100 yr or more) 14C variations and, accordingly, of cosmic-ray variations in the past. Short-term (ca. 11 yr or less) variations are still under investigation (Alexeyev et al. 1971; Damon, Long and Wallick 1973).
