Multi-culturalism is a common reality, and is expected to become even more significant in the future. One of its challenges is the need for professionals, especially social workers, to accommodate their practice to clients of various cultures. Their role demands cultural sensitivity, acceptance, a non-judgmental containing attitude and professional skills. This article will show how phenomenology can shed new light on the concept of cultural sensitivity and its implications on future interventions. We demonstrate this approach by looking at social workers’ various encounters with social problems in the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in Israel. Several phenomenological categories will be discussed: The life-world; intentionality; the self with others; language; stock of knowledge at hand. Through the phenomenological lens, we will expose the inherent duality in the work of social workers in a multi-cultural society: awareness to cultural codes and professional ethics.

BACKGROUND Diabetes represents an important public health challenge in India and Globally. It affects quality of life and is one of the leading causes of death and disability. The burden on global health is huge and about 463 million adults are currently living with diabetes. 77 million people in India in the age group of 20-79 years are affected by this pandemic and total cost to health expenditure is 8 billion US dollars, therefore huge burden, and great economic cost on Public health. The self-management of diabetes, the research priorities include exploring the concept of diabetes self-management and major research questions would comprise of asking what affects self-management in persons with diabetes and how do m-health application and interventions can impact on the self-management behaviors in development, utility of the m-health app in self-management of person with diabetes. Therefore, this project research is of great significance and would bring an integrative approach on self-care management OBJECTIVE To design, develop and evaluate the impact of m-health enabled nutrition informatics intervention for home based self-management of type 2 diabetes in an Indian setting. METHODS A mixed research study will be conducted between January 2022 and January 2023. A sample of approximately 250 individuals will be recruited and enrolled using a nonprobability complete enumeration sampling method from selected urban settings of Delhi inclusion and exclusion criteria with age20-79 years male and female with Type 2 diabetes and have access to Smart phone Data will be collected using which questionnaires. The collected data will be used to assess use and utility of mobile health application developed. The knowledge, attitudes, practices, and beliefs regarding Diabetes self-care management. Lastly, the study questionnaire system usability survey(SUS) will be used to assess the usability of mobile applications on selfcare management of Diabetes RESULTS A pilot of 250 individuals has been conducted to pretest the DBMS questionnaire. The data collection will be initiated from January 2022, and the initial results are planned for publication by October 2022.Descriptive analysis of the gathered data will be performed using SPSS V11, and reporting of the results will be done at 95% CIs and P=.0.05. CONCLUSIONS The findings of the study would inform the elements essential for the development of m-health intervention to improve self-care management of diabetes at home settings. Waldorf education began in 1919 with the first Waldorf School in Stuttgart and nowadays is widespread in many countries all over the world. Empirical research, however, has been rare until the early nineties and Waldorf education has not been discussed within educational science so far. This has changed during the last decades. This article reviews the results of surveys during the last 20 years and is mainly focused on German Waldorf Schools, because most investigations have been done in this field. Findings are reported with respect to the following central aspects of Waldorf education: the holistic and integrative approach, the self-governance in the organization of the Waldorf schools, the Waldorf curriculum, and the principle of class teachers from 1st to 8th grade. Furthermore, Waldorf education also provides its own unique teacher training. All of these aspects have been explored and evaluated from different points of view and with different methods. The results show strengths as well as weaknesses of Waldorf education in the daily practice in schools, which indicates the kinds of challenges Waldorf education will have to face in the upcoming decades. The authors themselves have contributed in several investigations to the field of Waldorf education.

The study was carried out using the integrative approach, in which the human psyche is con-sidered as a self-organizing system. The goal of this study was to describe in a consistent manner the mental self-regulatory system of educational activities in the context of the metacognitive approach. Our objectives were the following: to determine the impact of gender and age on the indicators of metacognitive awareness in educational activities; to describe the factor structure of the mental self-regulatory system of educational activities including metacognitive awareness. To assess the parameters of the self regulatory mental activity we used the following methods: The Self organization of Activity Questionnaire by E. Mandrikova (2010); Тhe dif-ferential reflectivity test by D. Leontiev and E. Osin (2014); The Еmotional Intelligence Questionnaire by D. Lyusin (2004), short version of the questionnaire “Metacognitive Aware-ness Inventory” by G. Schraw and R.S. Dennison, adapted by A. Karpov and I. Skityaeva (2005). The study involved 354 respondents, including 257 women and 97 men aged 18 to 45. The study was conducted on the basis of St. Petersburg University (BA students and occupa-tional re training students). The data was analyzed using means, standard deviations, Student's t test correlation, and factor analysis. During the study we found out that metacognitive awareness indicators were not associated significantly with the age of the general sample or in male and female groups. The male group was characterized by higher indicators of knowledge about cognition, and the female group was characterized by higher indicators of metacogni-tive regulation “Debugging strategies”. We described the factor structure of the mental self regulatory system of educational activities including metacognitive awareness. There are 4 factors: Metacognitive processes, Reflective processes, Planning and realization, and Opera-tional performance temporal perspective. Our research confirms that metacognitive aware-ness, emotional intelligence, and purposefulness are the main characteristics in the mental self regulatory system of educational activities and their development can increase the effec-tiveness of education. Reflection was at second rank in importance in the mental self regulatory process. The third and fourth factors are associated with the processes of realiza-tion and implementation of self regulatory activities. Thus, we recommend the teachers to develop students' metacognitive processes, such as metacognitive knowledge and metacognitive regulation, interpersonal and intrapersonal emotional intelligence, and purposefulness for optimizing their self regulatory system.

Gipuzkoa (Basque Country, North Spain) is an industrial region where investments in sanitation and wastewater treatment have improved water quality and partially recovered river biological communities. However, further technological improvements are unlikely. Our objective was to assess whether in-stream self-purification may contribute to improvement of the trophic state of rivers. We propose an integrative approach to assessing river water quality, which diagnoses problems, identifies likely causes and prescribes solutions. We first analysed the loads of nutrients transported by Gipuzkoa rivers and compared them with the potential nutrient uptake rates (estimated from published empirical regressions). In reaches where both of them were within one order of magnitude, we considered that the self-purification capacity of river channels may influence nutrient concentrations. Then, we selected some river reaches where no other water quality problems beyond nutrient concentrations occurred and ran the expert system STREAMES 1.0 to diagnose the problems and detect their causes. The studied reaches differed in their problems and in their potential solutions. We empirically determined nutrient retention in two streams by means of mass balances and slug nutrient additions. We detected large differences in retention capacity between reaches and siltation as one of the main problems affecting the self-purification capacity of the study streams. Finally, we used STREAMES 1.0 to identify potential solutions to specific river sections. The results obtained so far point towards an important potential of in-stream bioreactive capacity to reduce nutrient loads and to specific restoration activities that may improve the functionality and trophic status of the streams in Gipuzkoa.

AbstractAutism spectrum disorder (ASD) subjects can present temporary behaviors of acute agitation and aggressiveness, named problem behaviors. They have been shown to be consistent with the self-organized criticality (SOC), a model wherein occasionally occurring “catastrophic events” are necessary in order to maintain a self-organized “critical equilibrium.” The SOC can represent the psychopathology network structures and additionally suggests that they can be considered as self-organized systems.

The major protein of the blue-green algae is the biliprotein, C-phycocyanin (Amax = 620 nm), which is presumed to exist in the cell in the form of distinct aggregates called phycobilisomes. The self-assembly of C-phycocyanin from monomer to hexamer has been extensively studied, but the proposed next step in the assembly of a phycobilisome, the formation of 19s subunits, is completely unknown. We have used electron microscopy and analytical ultracentrifugation in combination with a method for rapid and gentle extraction of phycocyanin to study its subunit structure and assembly.To establish the existence of phycobilisomes, cells of P. boryanum in the log phase of growth, growing at a light intensity of 200 foot candles, were fixed in 2% glutaraldehyde in 0.1M cacodylate buffer, pH 7.0, for 3 hours at 4°C. The cells were post-fixed in 1% OsO4 in the same buffer overnight. Material was stained for 1 hour in uranyl acetate (1%), dehydrated and embedded in araldite and examined in thin sections.

A mutant of Bacillus licheniformis 749/C, NM 105 exhibits some notable properties, e.g., arrest of alkaline phosphatase secretion and overexpression and hypersecretion of RS protein. Although RS is known to be widely distributed in many microbes, it is rarely found, with a few exceptions, in laboratory cultures of microorganisms. RS protein is a structural protein and has the unusual properties to form aggregate. This characteristic may have been responsible for the self assembly of RS into regular tetragonal structures. Another uncommon characteristic of RS is that enhanced synthesis and secretion which occurs when the cells cease to grow. Assembled RS protein with a tetragonal structure is not seen inside cells at any stage of cell growth including cells in the stationary phase of growth. Gel electrophoresis of the culture supernatant shows a very large amount of RS protein in the stationary culture of the B. licheniformis. It seems, Therefore, that the RS protein is cotranslationally secreted and self assembled on the envelope surface.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to identify levels of self-compassion in adults who do and do not stutter and to determine whether self-compassion predicts the impact of stuttering on quality of life in adults who stutter. Method Participants included 140 adults who do and do not stutter matched for age and gender. All participants completed the Self-Compassion Scale. Adults who stutter also completed the Overall Assessment of the Speaker's Experience of Stuttering. Data were analyzed for self-compassion differences between and within adults who do and do not stutter and to predict self-compassion on quality of life in adults who stutter. Results Adults who do and do not stutter exhibited no significant differences in total self-compassion, regardless of participant gender. A simple linear regression of the total self-compassion score and total Overall Assessment of the Speaker's Experience of Stuttering score showed a significant, negative linear relationship of self-compassion predicting the impact of stuttering on quality of life. Conclusions Data suggest that higher levels of self-kindness, mindfulness, and social connectedness (i.e., self-compassion) are related to reduced negative reactions to stuttering, an increased participation in daily communication situations, and an improved overall quality of life. Future research should replicate current findings and identify moderators of the self-compassion–quality of life relationship.
