International and New Zealand research continues to show that there is concern about boys being less successful than girls in writing at all levels of the school. This study examines to what extent year 7 and year 8 boys are motivated to advance their writing when they collaborate with a peer and choose to use a drama strategy. A qualitative approach was taken to explore the insiders‟ view of writing from eight year 7 and year 8 boys in an intermediate school in New Zealand. Data gathered were from semi-structured interviews, in class observations and samples of writing. Sociocultural theory was used to inform the investigation of the social and cultural influences on the boys‟ learning about writing. The findings illustrate that the drama intervention was successful as the boys were motivated to write through their social interaction of role- playing characters from a choice of topics represented in their everyday lives. The boys revealed their metacognitive knowledge by showing their awareness of their thought processes about writing and how to use this knowledge to develop their writing abilities. The study makes recommendations for teachers, including the need for teachers to recognise the boys‟ position of authority over their knowledge, which is essential for their motivation and learning to write successfully.

In the era of open competition and is very tight at this time, product innovation is not an option but a necessity. The changes and dynamics in market and also the environment in general, can not be ignored if you want to continue to survive in the business. Accordingly, this case study attempted to analyze on product innovation, particularly in relation to organizational culture. Case studies conducted at the Institute for Public Broadcasting (LPP) Televisi Republik Indonesia (TVRI) as a government-owned TV station news which is also the oldest TV station in Indonesia. The analysis focused on the influence of organizational culture - which includes the type of adhocracy and hierarchy culture - to product innovation in TVRI. Data were obtained through questionnaires to managers and staff of the news division field. With the method of multiple regression analysis, the results suggest that there are
cultural influences of organizational culture that include adhocracy and hierarchy
culture to product innovation either jointly or individually. The type of culture that encourages more product innovation happening in the LPP TVRI is adhocracy culture. This indicates that TVRI should immediately make the transition a culture that has been more dominant, the hierarchy culture, toward a more flexible and responsive to environmental changes, which is adhocracy culture. Thus expected to be able to support its role in maximazing the function of public institutions to provide more balanced information on the people of Indonesia.
Keywords:Organizational Culture, Cultural Adhokrasi, Cultural Hierarchy, Product
Innovation.

This case study examines variation in idiomatic fixed expressions (FEs) in British and West African varieties of English. Using a corpus of newspapers containing FEs with the source domain monkey, I contrast those expressions shared by both varieties — the Common Core — with those found only in the African sources. In so doing, I seek to illuminate to what extent uniquely African cultural influences have affected idiomatic language use in these ‘New Englishes’ beyond the mere adoption of British expressions. The corpus contains 24 FEs, of which 8 belong to the Common Core and 16 classify as potentially new African ones. The analysis of the FEs reveals that West African speakers make use of a much broader spectrum of main meaning foci (Kövecses 2010) when instantiating the human behavior is monkey behavior metaphor than do their British counterparts. This wider system of associated commonplaces (Black 1954) can be linked to the African natural environment on the one hand and to broader cultural influences on the other, including power and corruption issues as well as African models of community and kinship (Wolf & Polzenhagen 2009). On a more global level, this paper lends evidence to the importance of cultural conceptualizations (Sharifian 2011) as a further dimension of variation in the study of World Englishes.
