The (110) twin structure of YBa2Cu3O7 superconductor oxide, which is formed to reduce the strain energy of the tetragonal to orthorhombic phase transformation by alternating the a-b crystallographic axis across the boundary, was extensively investigated. Up to now the structure of the twin boundary still remained unclear. In order to gain insight into the nature of the twin boundary in Y-Ba-Cu-O system, a study using electron diffraction techniques including optical and computed diffractograms, as well as high resolution structure imaging techniques with corresponding computer simulation and processing was initiated.Bulk samples of Y-Ba-Cu-O oxide were prepared as described elsewhere. TEM specimens were produced by crushing bulk samples into a fine powder, dispersing the powder in acetone, and suspending the fine particles on a holey carbon grid. The electron microscopy during this study was performed on both a JEOL 2000EX and 2000FX electron microscopes operated at 200 kV.

Tin mono selenide (SnSe) with an energy gap of about 1 eV is a potential material for photovoltaic applications. Various authors have studied the structure, electronic and photoelectronic properties of thin films of SnSe grown by various deposition techniques. However, for practical photovoltaic junctions the electrical properties of SnSe films need improvement. We have carried out investigations into the properties of flash evaporated SnSe films. In this paper we report our results on the structure, which plays a dominant role on the electrical properties of thin films by TEM, SEM, and electron diffraction (ED).Thin films of SnSe were deposited by flash evaporation of SnSe fine powder prepared from high purity Sn and Se, onto glass, mica and KCl substrates in a vacuum of 2Ø micro Torr. A 15% HF + 2Ø% HNO3 solution was used to detach SnSe film from the glass and mica substrates whereas the film deposited on KCl substrate was floated over an ethanol water mixture by dissolution of KCl. The floating films were picked up on the grids for their EM analysis.

Background: Phytonutrients in peach fruits have health promoting antioxidants against various chronic diseases. However, there is no extensive data to show the nutritional values of Local peach cultivars after post-harvest treatments. Objective: Mainly this study was objective to determine the effect of calcium carbide on nutritional value and quality of fruits of Pakistani peach cultivars. Methods: The peach fruits were collected from three different peach orchids of KPK and the fruits were divided into 4 groups while 5th group was collected from local fruit shop. Each experimental group was treated with different concentration of calcium carbide whereas control group was not treated. The peel and pulp samples were oven dried and ground to fine powder separately. The elemental compositions were determined using Particle Induced X-ray emission and Pelletron Tandem Accelerator. Result: Sixteen elements were identified in peach fruits and the elements were Al, P, S, Cl, K, Ca, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, and Se. In peel, concentration of some elements increased or decreased after treatment with CaC2 while in pulp the conc. of nearly all detected elements was increased in treated samples. We found significantly high amount of heavy metals traces including As, Se, Co, Si, and P in peach fruits treated with CaC2. Interestingly, the presence of trichomes in peach skin prevents the transfer of these heavy metals deep into the pulp which was also verified by the elemental profiling of nectarines. Conclusion: Conclusively, the artificial ripening with CaC2 changed the nutritional value of peach fruits that has higher health risks if consume with the peel. According to our best knowledge, this is the first report that highlights the effects of CaC2 which deteriorate the nutritional value of peach fruits in Pakistan.

Background:: In the long run, synthetic tints were found to be harmful to the chemicals. As a result natural tints have come to be used for their many intrinsic values. The main reason being, then availability of local plants as the main source of natural colorants. Their easy availability in the country being zero cost – effective and planted for other purposes are the main reasons for utilizing them as natural tints. Almost all the parts of the plants, namely stem, leaves, fruits, seeds, barks etc. are used for extracting natural colour. In addition, they are antimicrobial antifungal, insect – repellant deodorant, disinfectant having medicinal values. Methods:: Sweet Indrajao leaves were cleaned by washing with water and dried under direct sunlight and ground as fine powder. A fine strainer was used to remove the wastages. After all these processes, 1-kilogram leaves weighed 318 grams. Then, it is put in 75% ethanol 25% water and heated in a breaker which in kept over a water bath for 2 hours. After this, the contents were filtered and kept in a separate beaker. Bleached fleece draperies stained with stain extract were made to become wet and put into different stain baths which contain the required amount of stain extract and water. Acetic acid was added to it after 20 minutes. The fleece drapery was stained for about one hour at 60oC. The draperies thus stained were removed, squeezed, and put to treatment with metal salts without washing. Different metal salts were used for the treatment using 3% of any one of the chemical mordants like alum, stannous chloride, potassium dichromate, ferrous sulphate, nickel sulphate, copper sulphate and natural mordants such as myrobolan, turmeric, cow dung, Banana sap juice at 60oC for 30 minutes with MLR of 1:30. The stained draperies were washed repeatedly in all the three methods in water and dried in air. At last, the stained draperies were put to soap with soap solution at 60oC for 10 minutes. The draperies were repeatedly washed in water and dried under the sun. Results:: Sweet Indrajao leaves discharged colour easily in alcoholic water. The fleece draperies were stained with chemical and natural mordants. It was observed that the stain uptake was found to be good in post-mordanting method. Ultrasonication has clearly improved the stainability of the draperies at pH 3 and 3.5 values. The pH decreases the stain ability under both Conventional and Ultrasonic conditions. The colour strength increases with an increase in staining temperature in both cases of US and CH methods. Conclusion:: Sweet Indrajao.L has been found to have good ultrasonic potential as a stain plant. The stain uptake as well as the fastness properties of the fleece drapery were found to enhance when metal mordant was used in conjugation with ultra-sonication for the extract of Sweet Indrajao. It was also found that the enhancement of staining ability was better without mordant draperies. The dye extract showed good antibacterial activity against the three bacterial pathogens. Among the three bacterial pathogens, dye extract showed more effective against Escherichia coli pathogens and dye extract showed more effective against Aspergillus pathogens. Hence, the ultrasonic method of drapery staining may be appropriate and beneficial for society at large in future.

The paper proposes the model of a person seismic signal with noise for the investigation of passive seismic location system characteristics. The known models based on Gabor and Berlage pulses have been analyzed. These models are not able wholly to consider statistical properties of seismic signals. The proposed model is based on almost cyclic character of seismic signals, Gauss character of fluctuations inside a pulse, random amplitude change from pulse to pulse and relatively small fluctuation of separate pulses positions. The simulation procedure consists of passing the white noise through a linear generating filter with characteristics formed by real steps of a person, and the primary pulse sequence modulation by Gauss functions. The model permits to control the signal-to-noise ratio after its reduction to unity and to vary pulse shifts with respect to person steps irregularity. It has been shown that the model of a person seismic signal with noise agrees with experimental data.

Background: A better understanding of the morphology underneath the acromion is needed to prevent complications after arthroscopic subacromial decompression. The precise correlations between the morphologic features underneath the acromion and the surrounding structures including the attachment of the coracoacromial ligament (CAL) and the origin of the deltoid middle head have not yet been determined in the absence of artifacts on the bony surface caused by dissection techniques. Moreover, anatomic findings in previous studies using only older-aged cadavers or dried bones may not reflect the morphologic features of younger and healthy specimens. Purpose: To characterize the anterolateral structures morphologically in the inferior aspect of the acromion, assess the relationships of these structures with surrounding structures without dissection artifacts on the bony surface, and verify the cadaveric data in the asymptomatic shoulders of living middle-aged patients. Study Design: Descriptive laboratory study. Methods: We initially analyzed the relationship between the morphology of the anterolateral structures and surrounding structures in 18 cadaveric shoulders (mean age, 81.8 years), 15 of which were subjected to macroscopic investigation of the CAL attachment and 3-dimensional micro—computed tomography investigation with radiopaque markers and 3 of which were subjected to histologic examination. We also analyzed the morphology underneath the anterolateral acromion in 24 asymptomatic shoulders of middle-aged patients (mean age, 54.8 years) to verify the cadaveric data. In both the cadaveric shoulders and the asymptomatic shoulders of live patients, the long axis, width, and height of the anterolateral prominence were measured by use of 3-dimensional CT imaging. Results: In cadavers, the anterolateral prominence underneath the acromion corresponded to the attachment of the CAL. Histologic evaluation revealed that the CAL was continuous to the deep layer of the deltoid middle head in the lateral acromion. The study in asymptomatic shoulders of middle-aged patients revealed bony prominences similar to those observed in cadavers. Conclusion: The anterolateral prominence, which corresponds to the attachment of the CAL below the acromion, may be a native structure below the acromion. Moreover, the CAL is continuous to the deep layer of the deltoid middle head in the lateral acromion.
