AbstractThe internal availability of silent speech serves as a translator for people with aphasia and keeps human–machine/human interactions working under various disturbances. This paper develops a silent speech strategy to achieve all-weather, natural interactions. The strategy requires few usage specialized skills like sign language but accurately transfers high-capacity information in complicated and changeable daily environments. In the strategy, the tattoo-like electronics imperceptibly attached on facial skin record high-quality bio-data of various silent speech, and the machine-learning algorithm deployed on the cloud recognizes accurately the silent speech and reduces the weight of the wireless acquisition module. A series of experiments show that the silent speech recognition system (SSRS) can enduringly comply with large deformation (~45%) of faces by virtue of the electricity-preferred tattoo-like electrodes and recognize up to 110 words covering daily vocabularies with a high average accuracy of 92.64% simply by use of small-sample machine learning. We successfully apply the SSRS to 1-day routine life, including daily greeting, running, dining, manipulating industrial robots in deafening noise, and expressing in darkness, which shows great promotion in real-world applications.

Physical health diseases caused by wrong sitting postures are becoming increasingly serious and widespread, especially for sedentary students and workers. Existing video-based approaches and sensor-based approaches can achieve high accuracy, while they have limitations like breaching privacy and relying on specific sensor devices. In this work, we propose Sitsen, a non-contact wireless-based sitting posture recognition system, just using radio frequency signals alone, which neither compromises the privacy nor requires using various specific sensors. We demonstrate that Sitsen can successfully recognize five habitual sitting postures with just one lightweight and low-cost radio frequency identification tag. The intuition is that different postures induce different phase variations. Due to the received phase readings are corrupted by the environmental noise and hardware imperfection, we employ series of signal processing schemes to obtain clean phase readings. Using the sliding window approach to extract effective features of the measured phase sequences and employing an appropriate machine learning algorithm, Sitsen can achieve robust and high performance. Extensive experiments are conducted in an office with 10 volunteers. The result shows that our system can recognize different sitting postures with an average accuracy of 97.02%.

Die Lageregelung von konventionellen Industrierobotern ist nicht auf den dynamischen Fräsprozess ausgelegt. Eine Möglichkeit, das Verhalten der Regelkreise zu optimieren, ist eine modellbasierte Momentenvorsteuerung, welche in dieser Arbeit aufgrund vieler Vorteile durch einen Machine-Learning-Ansatz erweitert wird. Hierzu wird die Umsetzung in Matlab und die simulative Evaluation erläutert, die im Anschluss das Potenzial dieses Konzeptes bestätigt.   The position control of conventional industrial robots is not designed for the dynamic milling process. One possibility to optimize the behavior of the control loops is a model-based feed-forward torque control which is supported by a machine learning approach due to many advantages. The implementation in Matlab and the simulative evaluation are explained, which subsequently confirms the potential of this concept.

Skin cancer, which is one of the most common types of cancer in the world, is a malignant growth seen on the skin due to various reasons. There was an increase in the number of the cases of skin cancer nearly 200% between 2004-2009. Since the ozone layer is depleting, harmful rays reflected from the sun cannot be filtered. In this case, the likelihood of skin cancer will increase over the years and pose more risks for human beings. Early diagnosis is very significant as in all types of cancers. In this study, a mobile application is developed in order to detect whether the skin spots photographed by using the machine learning technique for early diagnosis have a suspicion of skin cancer. Thus, an auxiliary decision support system is developed that can be used both by the clinicians and individuals. For cases that are predicted to have a risk higher than a certain rate by the machine learning algorithm, early diagnosis could be initiated for the patients by consulting a physician when the case is considered to have a higher risk by machine learning algorithm.

In today's world of advanced technologies in IoT and ITS in smart cities scenarios, there are many different projections such as improved data propagation in smart roads and cooperative transportation networks, autonomous and continuously connected vehicles, and low latency applications in high capacity environments and heterogeneous connectivity and speed. This chapter presents the performance of the speed of vehicles on roadways employing machine learning methods. Input variable for each learning algorithm is the density that is measured as vehicle per mile and volume that is measured as vehicle per hour. And the result shows that the output variable is the speed that is measured as miles per hour represent the performance of each algorithm. The performance of machine learning algorithms is calculated by comparing the result of predictions made by different machine learning algorithms with true speed using the histogram. A result recommends that speed is varying according to the histogram.

Humans spend on average more than half of their day sitting down. The ill-effects of poor sitting posture and prolonged sitting on physical and mental health have been extensively studied, and solutions for curbing this sedentary epidemic have received special attention in recent years. With the recent advances in sensing technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI), sitting posture monitoring and correction is one of the key problems to address for enhancing human well-being using AI. We present the application of a sitting posture training smart cushion called LifeChair that combines a novel pressure sensing technology, a smartphone app interface and machine learning (ML) for real-time sitting posture recognition and seated stretching guidance. We present our experimental design for sitting posture and stretch pose data collection using our posture training system. We achieved an accuracy of 98.93% in detecting more than 13 different sitting postures using a fast and robust supervised learning algorithm. We also establish the importance of taking into account the divergence in user body mass index in posture monitoring. Additionally, we present the first ML-based human stretch pose recognition system for pressure sensor data and show its performance in classifying six common chair-bound stretches.

In recent years, the integration of human-robot interaction with speech recognition has gained a lot of pace in the manufacturing industries. Conventional methods to control the robots include semi-autonomous, fully-autonomous, and wired methods. Operating through a teaching pendant or a joystick is easy to implement but is not effective when the robot is deployed to perform complex repetitive tasks. Speech and touch are natural ways of communicating for humans and speech recognition, being the best option, is a heavily researched technology. In this study, we aim at developing a stable and robust speech recognition system to allow humans to communicate with machines (roboticarm) in a seamless manner. This paper investigates the potential of the linear predictive coding technique to develop a stable and robust HMM-based phoneme speech recognition system for applications in robotics. Our system is divided into three segments: a microphone array, a voice module, and a robotic arm with three degrees of freedom (DOF). To validate our approach, we performed experiments with simple and complex sentences for various robotic activities such as manipulating a cube and pick and place tasks. Moreover, we also analyzed the test results to rectify problems including accuracy and recognition score.


In order to make fast communication between human and machine, speech recognition system are used. Number of speech recognition systems have been developed by various researchers. For example speech recognition, speaker verification and speaker recognition. The basic stages of speech recognition system are pre-processing, feature extraction and feature selection and classification. Numerous works have been done for improvement of all these stages to get accurate and better results. In this paper the main focus is given to addition of machine learning in speech recognition system. This paper covers architecture of ASR that helps in getting idea about basic stages of speech recognition system. Then focus is given to the use of machine learning in ASR. The work done by various researchers using Support vector machine and artificial neural network is also covered in a section of the paper. Along with this review is presented on work done using SVM, ELM, ANN, Naive Bayes and kNN classifier. The simulation results show that the best accuracy is achieved using ELM classifier. The last section of paper covers the results obtained by using proposed approaches in which SVM, ANN with Cuckoo search algorithm and ANN with back propagation classifier is used. The focus is also on the improvement of pre-processing and feature extraction processes.
