The corrosion inhibition characteristics of two medicinal molecules phenylalanine and rutin on mild steel in 1.0M Hydrochloric acid were evaluated using gravimetric method. Corrosion inhibition efficiency of 83.78 and 90.40 % was obtained respectively after seven days. However, phenylalanine showed weak accumulative higher corrosion inhibition efficiency. The presence of both molecules in the corrosive environment reduced the corrosion rate constant and increased the material half-life. Thermodynamic data calculated suggests a spontaneous adsorption of the molecules on the mild steel’s surface.

In this paper, a corrosion inhibitor containing nitrogen atoms and a conjugated π bond was synthesised, and its final product synthesised by the optimal conditions of the orthogonal test results is named multi-mannich base (MBT). The corrosion inhibition effect on the N80 steel sheet of the corrosion inhibitor was evaluated in a CO2 saturated solution containing 3 wt % NaCl; the corrosion rate was 0.0446 mm/a and the corrosion inhibition rate was 90.4%. Through electrochemical and adsorption theory study, MBT is a mixed corrosion inhibitor that mainly shows cathode suppression capacity. The adsorption of MBT on the surface of the steel sheet follows the Langmuir adsorption isotherm; it can be spontaneously adsorbed on the surface of the N80 steel sheet, which has a good corrosion inhibition effect. The surface of the N80 steel sheet was microscopically characterised by atomic force microscope (AFM). It can be seen from the results that the N80 steel sheet with MBT added is significantly different from the blank control group; the surface of the steel sheet is relatively smooth, indicating that MBT forms an effective protective film on the surface of N80 steel, which inhibits the steel sheet.

A corrosion control test was conducted on alloy steel, using polymeric coatings (polyurethane, bitumen (medium airing), and high-density polyethylene) in dilute HCl solutions of pH values 4, 7, and 12, respectively for acid, neutral and alkaline solutions at ambient temperature. In the study, Eighty-four coupons of alloy steel were used. The coupons were mechanized, ground, polished, etched with natal, and weighed using a digital weighing balance (Beva 206B). The mass of each coupon was recorded according to the tag number on them. Twenty-one of the coupons were coated with polyurethane, 21 coated with medium curing bitumen (MC), and 21 coated with high-density polyethylene, while 21 were left uncoated. Seven polyurethane-coated samples, bitumen coating, and uncoated coupons were suspended in dilute HCl solutions of pH values 4, 7, and 12. Every week, one sample is taken from each of the solutions, the coatings and the corrosion products were removed, and the coupons were etched with natal. Then the coupons were reweighed, and their masses were recorded in accordance with their tag number. The weight loss per unit area of the coupons, corrosion rate, and percentage corrosion inhibition efficiencies of the coatings was calculated over seven weeks. The results obtained were tabulated and represented graphically. From the results obtained, it is seen that the corrosion inhibition efficiency of polyurethane coatings is higher compared with bitumen and polyethylene. It is also seen from the graphs that the corrosion rate of the coupons is higher in acid, a little bit lower in alkaline, and much lower in neutral solution. It is also observed that the corrosion rates fall with time as the inhibition efficiency also falls with time.

In this corrosion test, simulated brine is used as corrosion medium, added different concentrations of aloe juice. Static weight-loss method is employed, meanwhile, we calculated corrosion rate of Q235 steel and researched on the corrosion inhibition effect of aloe in different temperatures. Results show that aloe is a good inhibitor, rate of corrosion inhibition can reach 80% or more and suitable for the temperature of work environment is less than 60 °C.

The inhibition of corrosion of stainless steel (SS)-410 in sulfuric acid using thiourea and three different surfactants, cetyle trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and X-Triton was studied. Corrosion rates were determined by using corrosion coupons. The corrosion rate was found to be decreased with increase in inhibitor concentration. It was observed that the maximum corrosion inhibition occurred in the post micellar concentration of the surfactants. By optimizing the corrosion inhibition performance of different blends of surfactants and thiourea in 3 M H2SO4,the corrosion inhibition order was found as: Triton X-100 + thiourea > CTAB + thiourea > SDS + thiourea. The best results obtained by the addition of 200 ppm thiourea in 500 ppm of Triton X-100 in 3 M H2SO4acid solution. This blend decreased the corrosion rate of SS-410 to 657.66 mpy.

Abstract The galvanic corrosion at a holiday in an organic coating was investigated by measuring the galvanic current as a function of time. It was found that an area of exposed metal (holiday) in the coating will be anodic to the coated areas. Water uptake and ion transport of the coating are significant factors affecting the corrosion taking place at a holiday. Thickness of the coating was also found to be an important influence on the corrosion rate at a holiday.

N-Butyl amine has been grafted unto Dow epoxy resin. The product was evaluated as an acid inhibitor by gravimetric techniques. The reduction in corrosion of aluminium in 1 M HCl solution was 92% at and 83% at with an inhibitor concentration of 100 ppm. The corrosion rate at this concentration was and mm/yr at and . For the specimens in HCl without inhibitor at 10-hour immersion period, the corrosion rate was and mm/yr, respectively, at and . Data obtained correlate with Langmuir isotherm.

The corrosion inhibition of mild steel using extracts ofCordia dichotomain different acid media was investigated by mass loss and thermometric methods. The experiments were carried out at 299±0.2 K in presence of different concentrations of dry fruit, leaves and stem extracts ofCordia dichotoma. The results reveal that the alcoholic extracts ofCordia dichotomais a better corrosion inhibitor than that of toxic chemicals. The fruit extract is more potent than leaves and stem extracts to inhibit the corrosion rate. The study seeks to investigate the possibility of using extracts ofCordia dichotomaas a green corrosion inhibitor for mild steel.
