Abstract Construction of metal selenides with a large specific surface area and a hollow structure is one of the effective methods to improve the electrochemical performance of supercapacitors. However, the nano-material easily agglomerates due to the lack of support, resulting in the loss of electrochemical performance. Herein, we successfully design a three-dimensional graphene (3DG) encapsulation-protected hollow nanoboxes (CoSe2-SnSe2) composite aerogel (3DG/CoSe2-SnSe2) via a co-precipitation method coupled with self-assembly route, followed by a high temperature selenidation strategy. The obtained aerogel possesses porous 3DG conductive network, large specific surface area and plenty of reactive active sites. It could be used as a flexible and binder-free electrode after a facile mechanical compression process, which provided a high specific capacitance of 460 F g-1 at 0.5 A g-1, good rate capability of 212.7 F g-1 at 10 A g-1, and excellent cycle stability due to the fast electron/ion transfer and electrolyte diffusion. With the as-prepared 3DG/CoSe2-SnSe2 as positive electrodes and the AC (activated carbon) as negative electrodes, an asymmetric supercapacitor (3DG/CoSe2-SnSe2//AC) was fabricated, which delivered a high specific capacity of 38 F g-1 at 1A g-1 and an energy density of 11.89 W h kg-1 at 749.9 W kg-1, as well as a capacitance retention of 91.1% after 3000 cycles. This work provides a new method for preparing electrode material.

Electrocatalytic Performance

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are the electrocatalytic materials with large specific surface area, high porosity, controllable structure and monodisperse active center, which is a promising candidate for the application of electrochemical energy conversion. However, the electrocatalytic performance of pure MOFs is seriously limited its poor conductivity and stability. In this work, high-performance electrocatalyst was fabricated through combining NiFe/MOF on nickel foam (NF) via in-situ growth strategy. Through rational control of the time and ratio in reaction precursors, we realized the effective manipulation of the growth behavior, and further investigated the electrocatalytic performance in water splitting. The catalyst presented excellent electrocatalytic performance for water splitting, with low overpotential of 260 mV in alkaline condition at a current density of 50 mA[Formula: see text], which is benefited from the large specific surface area and active sites. This study demonstrates that the rational design of NiFe MOF/NF plays a significant role in high-performance electrocatalyst.

We load the natural active molecules onto the spin film in an array using electrospinning techniques. The electrospun active molecular membranes we obtain in optimal parameters exhibit excellent capacity for scavenging radical. The reaction capacity of three different membranes for free radicals are shown as follow, glycyrrhizin acid membrane > quercetin membrane > α-mangostin membrane. The prepared active molecular electrospun membranes with a large specific surface area and high porosity could increase the interaction area between active molecules and free radicals. Additionally, it also has improved anti-airflow impact strength, anti-contaminant air molecular interference ability, and the ability to capture free radicals.

A facile and environmental-friendly approach was developed for the preparation of the cross-linked nanocellulose aerogel through the freeze-drying process and subsequent esterification. The as-prepared aerogel had a three-dimensional cellular microstructure with ultra-low density of 6.05 mg·cm−3 and high porosity (99.61%). After modifying by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) with hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HTMS), the nanocellulose aerogel displayed stable super-hydrophobicity and super-oleophilicity with water contact angle of 151°, and had excellent adsorption performance for various oil and organic solvents with the adsorption capacity of 77~226 g/g. Even after 30 cycles, the adsorption capacity of the nanocellulose aerogel for chloroform was as high as 170 g/g, indicating its outstanding reusability. Therefore, the superhydrophobic cross-linked nanocellulose aerogel is a promising oil adsorbent for wastewater treatment.

Oil spills and the emission of oily wastewater have triggered serious water pollution and environment problems. Effectively separating oil and water is a world-wide challenge and extensive efforts have been made to solve this issue. Interfacial super-wetting separation materials e.g., sponge, foams, and aerogels with high porosity tunable pore structures, are regarded as effective media to selectively remove oil and water. This review article reports the latest progress of polymeric three dimensional porous materials (3D-PMs) with super wettability to separate oil/water mixtures. The theories on developing super-wetting porous surfaces and the effects of wettability on oil/water separation have been discussed. The typical 3D porous structures (e.g., sponge, foam, and aerogel), commonly used polymers, and the most reported techniques involved in developing desired porous networks have been reviewed. The performances of 3D-PMs such as oil/water separation efficiency, elasticity, and mechanical stability are discussed. Additionally, the current challenges in the fabrication and long-term operation of super-wetting 3D-PMs in oil/water separation have also been introduced.

High porosity [Formula: see text]-Fe2O3 has attracted a lot of attention due to its exceptional structure. In this paper, nanoflake assembled hierarchical porous flower-like [Formula: see text]-Fe2O3 was prepared by hydrothermal and calcination methods without any additional templates. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) morphological characterization results show that with the increase of calcination temperature (400∘C, 450∘C, 500∘C, 550∘C, 600∘C), pores appeared. However, the results of nitrogen adsorption show that the specific surface area of the [Formula: see text]-Fe2O3 reaches the maximum value (52.19[Formula: see text]m2/g) when the calcination temperature is 500∘C. The gas sensing performance of flower-like [Formula: see text]-Fe2O3 with different calcination temperature is compared, interestingly, with the increase of calcination temperature, the response of the samples increased first and then decreased, and reached the maximum value (44.2–100 parts per million (ppm) acetone) when the calcination temperature was 500∘C. The minimum concentration for acetone was 200 ppb (response value is 2.0). Moreover, calcined at 500∘C, hierarchical porous [Formula: see text]-Fe2O3 has a fast response recovery (4/25 s) and low working temperature (210∘C). These excellent gas sensing properties are mainly due to porous structure, large specific surface area, and oxygen vacancies on the surface, which make it a promising material for acetone sensors.
