A comparative analysis is presented of the characteristics of drilling rigs used in open-pit mining in Ukraine. The experimental studies have been conducted of the drive systems and drilling rigs influence on the dynamics of the drilling process under the mining and geological conditions of the Central Mining and Processing Plant (Kryvyi Rih city, Ukraine). The frequency characteristics have been obtained and the dynamic properties of the automated drive systems, as well as frequency characteristics of the rotation mechanism transmissions have been analyzed. The behavior of natural oscillation frequencies in closed control loops of rotational drives was studied, and it has been determined that they exceed the cutoff frequency and fall into the pass band from the attenuation band in frequency-controlled induction motors of most advanced drilling rigs with the maximum number of rods connected in the drill string. It has been established that low oscillation frequencies due to the side frequencies, generated by the drill rod oscillations, fall into the fastest internal current loop. The tasks have been formulated for further research. The purpose of research is to solve the actual scientific and applied problem of dynamic compatibility of frequency characteristics in the modern high speed drive systems with the dynamic characteristics of drilling rigs, which are multi-mass mechanisms with distributed and concentrated parameters with a change in added masses.

Information about the geological structure of Kuznetsky coal basin (Kuzbass) allows us to note that coal deposits developed by open-cast method are characterized by complicated conditions and have the following features: large length of deposits at significant depths of occurrence; coal series bedding of different thicknesses (from 1 to 40 m); different dip angles (from 3 to 90º); a significant number of dip and direction disturbances; different thickness of unconsolidated quaternary sediments (from 5 to 40 m); a wide range of strength values of rocks. In addition, there is a thickness irregularity and frequent variability of elements of occurrence of coal seams within the boundaries of a quarry field both in length and depth of mining. From the point of view of open-pit mining, such deposits are complex-structured. The factors listed above have a decisive influence on the choice of technical means, the order of development and the possibility of carrying out surface mining operations. Therefore, there is a need for a systematization of mining and geological conditions for the development of coal deposits, the purpose of which is to ensure a process of evaluation of complex-structured coal deposits for the development of coal-bearing zones by various complexes of equipment.

The Almalyk deposit of porphyry copper ores (Kalmakyr quarry) here is the subject for exploration of the open-pit mining parameters. A three-dimensional model of the quarry is developed by the modern geoinformation modeling method basing on system analysis of mining and geological conditions and technical mining parameters of the Almalyk copper-porphyry ore deposit open-pit. Main factors influencing the deformation processes development in the rock mass are identified. The probable zones of deformations of the Kalmakyr quarry sides with an increase in its depth are determined. It is recommended to organize and carry out continuous comprehensive geomechanical monitoring to ensure the safe further exploration at the quarry. This measures allow to quickly determine the signs preceding the occurrence of emergency situations, take preventive steps to stabilize the geomechanical condition of considered mining system.

This paper focuses on the sequencing and scheduling problem of open pit mining, with the allocation of loading equipment considering a medium-term horizon. This study considers the existence of a heterogeneous loading equipment fleet and two types of mineable material, namely ore or waste rock. For the mining of ore, the following requirements are taken under consideration: the mixture quality, a crusher, the processing plant capacity and a stockpile, called ROM stockpile. In this context, we present a mathematical model in mixed integer linear programming, supported by an algorithm that is responsible for moving the time horizon at each model run, aiming to generate mining orders resolved with optimality. Together, these orders describe the loading equipment mining plan.

The extraction of the Bełchatów lignite deposit located in the vicinity of the Dębina salt dome requires careful planning that considers the influence of mining projects on the slope and salt dome stability conditions. The instability problem is directly related to horizontal and vertical displacement, as well as the complex geological and mining conditions. These conditions are very unique with regard to the co-occurrence of the salt dome and lignite deposits in the same area, as well as the large scale of the pit wall slope. Thus, predicting rock mass behavior and ensuring the safety of mining operations are important issues. The presented analysis focused on the influence of long-term lignite extraction on the western pit wall slope of the Bełchatów field and the salt dome’s stability conditions. This study offers a comprehensive approach to a complex geotechnical problem defined by large-scale, complex geometry, and geological conditions. The rock mass behavior and stress conditions are simulated in numerical modelling. The results of the presented analysis will be useful not only for present mining activities but also for future developments related to post-mining and recultivation plans.

The article describes the monitoring system of blasthole drilling process called HNS (Hole Navigation System), which was used in blasting works performed by Maxam Poland Ltd. Developed by Atlas Copco's, the HNS system – using satellite data – allows for a very accurate mapping of the designed grid of blastholes. The article presents the results of several conducted measurements of ground vibrations triggered by blasting, designed and performed using traditional technology and using the HNS system and shows first observations in this matter.

Nowadays, one of the most significant problems in mining activities is the significance of analyzing environmental issues along with mining, concentration, and mineral processing operations to achieve the goals of sustainable development. Nevertheless, mine owners refuse to include environmental costs (EC) and consider them unprofitable. Due to the ever-increasing importance of environmental and social topics in recent years, there is a vital need for assessing the EC and its impact on total mining costs and implementing green strategies by the mining managers and engineers. The current study tries to model the mining cost structure by considering the causal relationships between different factors affecting open-pit mining costs to highlight the EC’s role. Furthermore, this research evaluates the effectiveness of implementing each possible mining green strategy in a large-scale copper mine using the System Dynamics (SD) approach. In this regard, seven scenarios and a combination of different environmental strategies, including mine reclamation, an environmental strategy for a condensation and processing plant, and environmental mining operations, have been considered for the SD-based economic analysis. The simultaneous use of the green mining strategies for the concentration and processing plant (Scenario 4) shows a high impact on cost reduction in the mining operation.

Due to the complexity of multiple rocks and multiple parameters circumstance, various parameters are often reduced to only one parameter empirically to generalize geological conditions, ignoring the really influential parameters. A developed method was presented as a complement to 3D displacement inversion to obtain the relative important parameters under complex conditions with limited computational work. Furthermore, this method was applied to a high steep slope in open-pit mining to investigate field applicability of the developed system. Back analysis was conducted in the reality of the east open-pit working area of Daye Iron Mine and propositional steps were presented for parameters solving in complex circumstance. Firstly, multi-factor and single-factor sensitivity analysis were carried out to classify rock mass and mechanical parameters respectively according to the extent of their effects on deformations. Secondly, based on the results, main influence factors were selected as inversion parameters and taken into a 3D calculating model to get the displacement field and stress field, all of which would be the artificial network training samples together with inversion parameters. Thirdly, taking the real deformations as input for the trained back propagation (BP) neural network, the real material mechanical parameters could be obtained. Finally, the results of trained neural network have been confirmed by field monitoring data and provide a reference to obtain the matter parameters in complicated environment for other similar projects.

The article deals with the problems of development of large gold-copper ore deposits, which have prospects for the development of mining and processing complexes based on them, which produce refined metals as final products. The article substantiates the feasibility of using combined traditional and physical-chemical geotechnologies in the development of these deposits, including geotechnologies in mining, using innovative processes of activation of heap and underground leaching of copper, fine and dispersed gold from complex ores. At the initial stage of development of the large deposits of complex ores, in parallel with traditional schemes open-pit mining and ore processing at the processing plant, it is advisable to use the activation heap leaching of valuable components from poor and refractory ores and flotation tailings from ordinary and rich ore. At the second stage, when switching to the underground method of field development, it is proposed to use blockhole leaching with explosion-injection ore preparation with combination with it. The proposed schemes for combined development of complex gold-copper ore and copper-ore deposits with precious metal mineralization are based on data obtained during many years of experimental research and pilot tests.

Common mining methods for thick coal seams or extremely thick coal seams has slice mining top coal caving mining, greater height mining, and surface mining. From the perspective of economic and technological mining method, the choice of methods should be fully taken into account the technical, economic, quality of operating personnel, equipment, geological conditions. It allows priority to open-pit mining, and then according to the thickness, coal quality, coal other factors to select the top coal caving or mining of high extraction methods which can achieve the economic, security, and efficient purposes. Conversely, if the method is poor choice, it will certainly lead to economic and time losses.

The natural conditions for the formation of coal deposits in different regions of the globe are the same, all of them belong to reservoir sedimentary deposits and differ only in the degree of metamorphism and tectonic disturbances. In this regard, coal deposits of the Kuznetsk basin (Kuzbass, Western Siberia, Russia)) that have no analogues in nature are unique. Here are all sorts of options for the occurrence of coal seams both in terms of their thickness, dip angle, number, and the degree of disturbance by plicative and disjunctive disturbances. The article presents some results of research on ways to reduce coal losses in open pit mining during its extraction by draglines. The study was carried out on the example of deposits in Kemerovo region with coal seams in an inclined and steep formations, which allows analyzing the possibilities of applying the proposed technological solutions in the widest range of specific mining and geological conditions.
