The article deals with the assessment of impact of higher harmonics on the operation of variablefrequency electric drive systems used in processing units at mining enterprises. Beyond that, energy efficiency and operation experience of variable-frequency electric drive usage at mining enterprises were studied. The advantages and drawbacks of implementation of variable-frequency electric drive systems were found. They include energy saving and reducing maintenance costs for processing units on one hand, as well as losses due to their incorrect selection and electromagnetic compatibility distortion on the other hand.

Overloaded electrical systems are a major source of unreliable power. Using a randomized saturation design, we estimate the impact of compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) on electricity reliability and household electricity consumption in the Kyrgyz Republic. Greater saturation of CFLs within a transformer leads to fewer outages, a technological externality benefitting all households, regardless of individual adoption. Spillovers in CFL adoption further reduce electricity consumption, contributing to increased reliability within a transformer. CFLs' impacts on household electricity consumption vary according to the effects on reliability. Receiving CFLs significantly reduces electricity consumption, but increased reliability permits greater consumption of electricity services.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are widely used in numerous critical applications, and require the network to have a prolonged lifetime and high tolerance to failures. However, the battery-operated sensor nodes used in WSNs cause the network to be resource-constrained. On the one hand, there is a continuous urge to efficiently exploit the WSN energy, and hence, prolong the network lifetime. On the other hand, WSN node failures are not only attributed to battery drain. Node failures can be caused by hardware or software malfunctioning. In this article, the authors assess the impact of the death criterion on the network lifetime and reliability. It is related how the data from the different sensors are aggregated to the death criterion. Additionally, the impact of the number of sensing cycles per network master on the network lifetime and energy efficiency for the different considered death criteria. The effect of the network master selection process on the energy efficiency is also examined. Finally, the impact of the death criterion on the reliability of the WSN is evaluated.

The article discusses the structure of autonomous electrical systems with an electric drive and an electric energy generation system. An approach is described for assessing the overall efficiency of technological cycle equipment with specification of parameters that must be considered when calculating it. The necessity of taking into account energy efficiency and operability indicators of autonomous electric complexes is substantiated. The effectiveness of the use of autonomous systems decreases throughout the entire life cycle due to wear and tear. As the operability of electromechanical equipment, an indicator of the residual resource is selected. The calculation of the residual resource, with the definition of its boundary values and recommendations for further use. Nominal energy efficiency parameters of autonomous electrotechnical complexes with electric drive deteriorate during operation, which also needs to be taken into account. To simplify the assessment of the operational state of electromechanical equipment, a state diagram is presented that allows you to track the dynamics of degradation of individual nodes. Taking into account the described indicators and means of control, it is possible to increase the efficiency of using autonomous complexes.

Mining enterprises are energy intensive facilities. The capacity of single technological units can reach 5 MW. Variable-frequency drive systems are often used to set them in motion. The paper analyzes the features of choosing and using variable-frequency drives under diamond mining conditions. The study objective is to formulate and formalize the problems of introducing and operating variable-frequency drives at diamond-mining enterprises to further develop and implement guidelines for improving the performance of this drive type. To achieve this objective, the use of variable frequency drives in various process units of diamond mining should be studied and analyzed. The units are considered, for which in recent years, electric drive systems have been groundlessly (according to the authors) chosen by the engineering staff of enterprises. A technical and economic comparison of low-voltage frequency converters with the same power but different control modes is performed. The economic indicators of introducing high-voltage and low-voltage frequency converters into an existing electric drive system are calculated and represented as a comparative table. Conclusions are made on the need to proceed with the research and develop guidelines for implementing frequency converters at diamond-mining enterprises.

For the mining industry, the key problem is to ensure maximum energy efficiency at each technological stage of mining production, therefore this article is devoted to assessing the results of modeling two different electric drive systems of the main fan unit of the mine from the point of view of ensuring the energy efficiency of the most energy-intensive unit equipment. In 2017, the main fan units were replaced at one of the mines for the extraction of diamond-bearing raw materials. The main reason for the replacement was the depletion of their resource, as well as an increase in the resistance of the mine network, which required an increase in the depression created by the fan. Comparison of the actual operating parameters of the existing electric drive system and the newly installed one can give an idea of the real scale and directions of development of technologies in the field of electric drive. Collection, processing, analysis and comparison of real data on two fans and electric drive systems of domestic and foreign production can contribute to the disclosure and solution of the problems of import substitution of such equipment. To analyze energy efficiency, methods were applied that involve the creation of mathematical models of two systems in the MatLab/Simulink software package, as well as a technical and economic comparison of the two options in terms of energy consumption. Based on the data obtained as a result of modeling for the TAF-36/21.5-1 and VOD-50 fans, graphical dependencies of static pressure, supply and power on the angular speed were built, and the annual electricity consumption was calculated for each option.

Modernism is usually defined historically as the composite movement at the beginning of the twentieth century which led to a radical break with what had gone before in literature and the other arts. Given the problems of the continuing use of the concept to cover subsequent writing, this essay proposes an alternative, philosophical perspective which explores the impact of rationalism (what we bring to the world) on the prevailing empiricism (what we take from the world) of modern poetry, which leads to a concern with consciousness rather than experience. This in turn involves a re-conceptualisation of the lyric or narrative I, of language itself as a phenomenon, and of other poetic themes such as nature, culture, history, and art. Against the background of the dominant empiricism of modern Irish poetry as presented in Crotty's anthology, the essay explores these ideas in terms of a small number of poets who may be considered modernist in various ways. This does not rule out modernist elements in some other poets and the initial distinction between a poetics of experience and one of consciousness is better seen as a multi-dimensional spectrum that requires further, more detailed analysis than is possible here.
