This paper investigates the effectiveness of renewable energy sources using solar and wind energy in the countries of Central and North-East Asia. The analysis was carried out in two stages. At the first stage, the efficiency of wind and solar installations in different climatic conditions was compared by the criterion of the cost of electricity. At the next stage of analysis, an optimization mathematical model was used to study the system that simultaneously includes wind and solar installations, backup energy sources and batteries. The model takes into account system effects caused by the interaction of the system elements between themselves and with the environment. It solves the problem of mathematical programming — the search for the minimum of the objective function (total costs) at some constrains. The model is used to study the economic efficiency of the large-scale construction of solar power plants in the Gobi Desert. It is shown that the joint use of solar and wind energy gives a positive economic effect, i.e. energy cost are less than with separate use of these energy sources. Under suitable wind conditions such systems reduces the cost of electricity by more than a quarter compared to the option of using solar energy only.

The study presents a brief description and problems of power supply of the Khabarovsk territory. The problems and prospects of the development of renewable energy sources, in particular in the Khabarovsk territory, are considered. There are three main approaches that exist in the scientific community for comparing energy objects. The first approach is based on comparing the technical indicators of power facilities, the second on calculating the normalized cost of electricity, and the third is based on monetizing the environmental and climatic consequences of power facilities. During the study, it was found that these approaches differ in the number of indicators included in the calculation of the cost of electricity. In accordance with the selected approaches, evaluation of economic efficiency of three operating power plants of the Khabarovsk territory – coal, diesel and solar – was carried out, monetized estimates of the full cost of three alternatives for the production of electricity in the region were given, taking into account the environmental component. The analysis made it possible to conclude that under the current market conditions, renewable energy sources are most profitable in decentralized areas, and quantitative evaluations have shown that with the introduction of payments for carbon monoxide emissions, renewable energy sources become an economically effective way of organizing energy supply in the region, including in the regions with centralized power supply.

The elaboration of a methodology for accurately assessing the potentialities of blue renewable energy sources is a key challenge among the current energy sustainability strategies all over the world. Consequentially, many researchers are currently working to improve the accuracy of marine renewable assessment methods. Nowadays, remote sensing (RSs) satellites are used to observe the environment in many fields and applications. These could also be used to identify regions of interest for future energy converter installations and to accurately identify areas with interesting potentials. Therefore, researchers can dramatically reduce the possibility of significant error. In this paper, a comprehensive SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis is elaborated to assess RS satellite potentialities for offshore wind (OW) estimation. Sicily and Sardinia—the two biggest Italian islands with the highest potential for offshore wind energy generation—were selected as pilot areas. Since there is a lack of measuring instruments, such as cup anemometers and buoys in these areas (mainly due to their high economic costs), an accurate analysis was carried out to assess the marine energy potential from offshore wind. Since there are only limited options for further expanding the measurement over large areas, the use of satellites makes it easier to overcome this limitation. Undoubtedly, with the advent of new technologies for measuring renewable energy sources (RESs), there could be a significant energy transition in this area that requires a proper orientation of plans to examine the factors influencing these new technologies that can negatively affect most of the available potential. Satellite technology for identifying suitable areas of wind power plants could be a powerful tool that is constantly increasing in its applications but requires good planning to apply it in various projects. Proper planning is only possible with a better understanding of satellite capabilities and different methods for measuring available wind resources. To this end, a better understanding in interdisciplinary fields with the exchange of updated information between different sectors of development, such as universities and companies, will be most effective. In this context, by reviewing the available satellite technologies, the ability of this tool to measure the marine renewable energies (MREs) sector in large and small areas is considered. Secondly, an attempt is made to identify the strengths and weaknesses of using these types of tools and techniques that can help in various projects. Lastly, specific scenarios related to the application of such systems in existing and new developments are reviewed and discussed.

The statistical analysis of the forecast error of the "day ahead" electricity supply volumes by the producers, which are included in the balancing group of the State Enterprise "Guaranteed Buyer”, was carried out. The distribution of forecast errors by hours of the day is determined. A simplified method for calculating the price and the total cost of the forecast error is described considering the various formulas for the cost of imbalances calculating. The potential for improving the accuracy of the forecast for increasing the permissible installed capacity of power plants with renewable energy sources with the technical means available in the power system to compensate for the power fluctuations is shown. Approbation of the methodology and calculation of quantitative indicators was carried out on real data of the total supply of renewable energy sources by producers, which were published by SE Energorynok. The calculations are of an estimate nature. Since the calculations are based on a “naive” assumption about the distribution of forecast errors, which depend on the structure of RES producers by types of primary energy carriers and specific meteorological conditions. Today, wind power is the fastest-growing renewable energy source. Wind power is free, clean, and endless. Furthermore, the cost of the electricity produced by wind turbines reached already the point where it is comparable with that of electricity produced by some of the conventional, fossil based power plants. However, it is still important to improve the technology in order to keep wind energy economically competitive with traditional and other renewable energy sources. In this paper the concept of variable length blades and active flow control systems has been proposed as a means of increasing the energy yield of the turbine.

The article considers scenarios of the prospective interstate power grid (ISPG) expansion in Northeast Asia with possible economic recession in China because of COVID-19 and other factors. Features of optimization of new capacities addition of renewable energy sources in the ISPG are considered. A series of computational experiments with variations in the profiles of wind and solar power plants were carried out. The assessment of impact the intermittence of renewable energy power output on the structure of ISPG was evaluated, with taking into account of possible economic recession in China. A comparative analysis of solutions to the problem of optimization of intermittent generation capacity inputs for scenarios with the formation of an energy connection in northeast Asia and its absence is carried out.

The solar and wind renewable energy sources are gaining popularity to encourage green energy into the power system. The cost of generation of solar and wind energy sources are decreasing and competing with conventional coal-based generation. Therefore, it is very important to integrate these renewable sources into the power system. Integrating Solar and wind energy sources require to solve the uncertainty problem. Both the solar and wind energy generation is uncertain and not controllable. In this paper, sliding window optimal ARIMA forecasting algorithm is proposed to solve the uncertainty associated with solar and wind sources. The proposed forecasting method is used on the data collected from National Renewable Energy Laboratory website.

The paper discusses the possibility of obtaining liquid and gaseous fuels from different types of biomass (BM) and combustible solid waste (CSW) of various origins. The available world reserves of traditional types of fuel are analyzed and a number of environmental shortcomings that created during their use are indicated. The tables present the data on the conditional calorific value (CCV) of the main traditional and alternative types of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels which compared with CCV of various types of BM and CSW. Possible methods for utilization of BM and CSW are analyzed, as well as the methods for converting them into alternative types of fuel, especially into combustible gases.Reliable information is given on the available oil and gas reserves in Azerbaijan. As a result of the research, it was revealed that the currently available oil reserves of Azerbaijan can completely dry out after 33.5 years, and gas reserves–after 117 years, without taking into account the growth rates of the exported part of these fuels to European countries. In order to fix this situation, first of all it is necessary to use as much as possible alternative and renewable energy sources, especially wind power plants (WPP) and solar photovoltaic energy sources (SFES) in the energy sector of the republic. Azerbaijan has large reserves of solar and wind energy. In addition, all regions of the country have large reserves of BM, and in the big cities, especially in industrial ones, there are CSW from which through pyrolysis and gasification is possible to obtain a high-quality combustible gas mixture, comprising: H2 + CO + CH4, with the least amount of harmful waste. The remains of the reaction of thermochemical decomposition of BM and CSW to combustible gases can also be used as mineral fertilizers in agriculture. The available and projected resources of Azerbaijan for the BM and the CSW are given, as well as their assumed energy intensity in the energy sector of the republic.Given the high energy intensity of the pyrolysis and gasification of the BM and CSW, at the present time for carrying out these reactions, the high-temperature solar installations with limited power are used as energy sources, and further preference is given to the use of WPP and SFES on industrial scale.

В статье рассмотрено современное состояние энергоснабжения и перспективы развития альтернативных источников энергии на территории Крайнего Севера. Отмечено, что несмотря на острую потребность во внедрении возобновляемых источников энергии, установленные мощности всех ветряных и солнечных электростанций в регионе не превышают 7-8 МВт. Также в работе рассчитаны технический и экономический потенциал ветровой энергии региона, на основании которых подобрана наиболее эффективная установка. The article discusses the current state of energy supply and the prospects for the development of alternative energy sources in the Far North. It is noted that despite the urgent need for the introduction of renewable energy sources, the installed capacities of all wind and solar power plants in the region do not exceed 7-8 MW. Also, the technical and economic potential of the region’s wind energy was calculated based on which the most efficient installation was selected.

In recent years, the vast penetration of renewable energy sources has introduced a large degree of uncertainty into the power system, thus leading to increased trading activity in the continuous intra-day electricity market. In this paper, we propose an agent-based modeling framework to analyze the behavior and the interactions between renewable energy sources, consumers and thermal power plants in the European Continuous Intra-day (CID) market. Additionally, we propose a novel adaptive trading strategy that can be used by the agents that participate in CID market. The agents learn how to adapt their behavior according to the arrival of new information and how to react to changing market conditions by updating their willingness to trade. A comparative analysis was performed to study the behavior of agents when they adopt the proposed strategy as opposed to other benchmark strategies. The effects of unexpected outages and information asymmetry on the market evolution and the market liquidity were also investigated.
