The control of obtaining the predicted physico-mechanical properties of protective coatings of machine parts in a complex acoustic field by the method of electroacoustic spraying is carried out through the use of highly concentrated sources of electrical energy. The prediction of the physico-mechanical properties of the hardened surface of machine parts is made on the basis of the experiment planning methodology with non-orthogonal planning matrices. The adequacy of the obtained mathematical models was carried out using the criterion of adequacy of Fisher. Physical fundamentals of mass transfer of materials to a substrate in a complex acoustic field, realized through the transformation of longitudinal vibrations, to longitudinal-torsional, have been developed, while the amplitude of oscillation of the acoustic system is 5 to 15 micrometers. The use of longitudinal-torsional ultrasonic waveguides in this process and ultrafast cooling temperatures make it possible to form elements such as carbides, carbonitrides, and intermetallic compounds on the surface of a conductive material. The subsequent impact with a shift against the surface produced by the waveguide - electrode leads to irreversible microplastic deformations of the surface layer, which provide the specified parameters of surface quality and its physico-mechanical properties.

The accumulation of marine organisms on ship hulls, such as microorganisms, barnacles, and seaweeds, represents a global problem for maritime industries, with both economic and environmental costs. The use of biocide-containing paints poses a serious threat to marine ecosystems, affecting both target and non-target organisms driving science and technology towards non-biocidal solutions based on physico-chemical and materials properties of coatings. The review reports recent development of hydrophobic protective coatings in terms of mechanical properties, correlated with the wet ability features. The attention is focused mainly on coatings based on siloxane and epoxy resin due to the wide application fields of such systems in the marine industry. Polyurethane and other systems have been considered as well. These coatings for anti-fouling applications needs to be both long-term mechanically stable, perfectly adherent with the metallic/composite substrate, and capable to detach/destroy the fouling organism. Prospects should focus on developing even “greener” antifouling coatings solutions. These coatings should also be readily addressable to industrial scale-up for large-scale product distribution, possibly at a reasonable cost.

During heat treatment of machine parts and tools, besides the usual task of ensuring a high complex of mechanical and operational properties, there is a problem of distortion of products in the process of heat treatment and the need for editing operations (which are carried out manually and require significant labor costs). The known methods do not solve the problem of removing distortion for thin-walled parts of the ring shape completely. This paper shows the technical possibility of using the energy of a constant magnetic field for the "internal" straightening of products during heat treatment in the temperature range of super-plasticity of transformation. The use of special equipment makes it possible to eliminate virtually the distortion of thin-walled parts of the ring shape and to improve their mechanical properties.

Gypsum and slurry with high content of Cl- lead to the damage of desulfurization pump caused by erosion and corrosion. Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and shield metal arc welding (SMAW) were employed to develop weld repairing technology. High-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) spraying was employed to prepare NiCr cermet coating and WC cermet coating against erosion and corrosion. Microstructures and mechanical properties of the weld and the protective coatings were tested. The mechanical properties of the weld joints with duplex microstructure were in accordance with related standards. The technology of HVOF sprayed NiCr cermet coating was selected to prolong the service lifetime and was applied on the pump casing and impeller repaired by using the weld repairing procedures developed in this study. The integrity of the pump parts after 30 months in-field service confirmed the reliability of the repairing technology and the protection technology.

In this work, photocurable protective coatings based on methacrylic acid esters have been developed and their physical and mechanical properties have been investigated. The photocurable compositions were obtained by mixing at different ratios the following methacrylic acid esters: polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate 400 and triethylene glycol dimethacrylate ether, polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate 400 and oligourethane dimethacrylate, polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate 400 and pentaerythritol tetraacrylate. For the obtained compositions, the viscosity was studied using a Brookfield rotary viscometer. To initiate polymerization, a mixture of initiators was used: benzoyl peroxide and benzoin. Curing of the obtained compositions was carried out under the influence of UV rays for 2-5 minutes. For photo-cured compositions, their physical and mechanical properties have been studied. It was found that the composition based on polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate modified with triethylene glycol dimethacrylate at a ratio of 70:30 has the highest strength.

The main object of the presented work is the development of new ceramic cutting tools on the base of a-Sialon with other complementary phases. Owing to the presence of these secondary phases a significant improvement in the mechanical properties and chemical resistance has been achieved. The newly developed cutting tools allow a higher performance in machining of iron-based products, in particular the "heavy-to-machine-parts". Finally, the microstructure, phase composition, the resulting mechanical properties, and cutting tests are compared for the set of developed materials.

Glass molding process provides a great potential for the production of precise glass optical components at low cost. The platinum-iridium (Pt-Ir) alloys are widely used as the protective coatings to extend the service life of the mold in glass molding process. This study concentrated on the microstructure and mechanical properties of sputtered Pt-Ir alloy films. The obvious grain growth was observed in the Pt-Ir alloy films at sputtering temperature of 700. The hardness and elastic modulus of Pt-Ir alloy film decreased with the increase in Pt content.
