Currently, one of the main strategic tasks of the Russian state is to preserve the cultural and civilizational code of Russia. In this regard, issues related to historical memory are being updated. Despite the development of the problem field of research, the authors of this work chose a non-standard approach to the problem and set a goal - to consider the formation of the historical memory of modern Russian youth through the development of cultural volunteerism. The example of cultural volunteering shows how objects of spiritual, historical and cultural heritage are preserved, cultural, educational and creative events are held, and the population gets acquainted with the world’s best examples of art. During the analysis, the authors came to the conclusion that volunteering in the field of culture helps not only to preserve the cultural and historical heritage of the country, to immerse young people in the history of their people and to acquaint the population with the best world examples of art, but also allows young people to become the part of the country’s history by organizing and conducting large-scale events.

Cultural routes present the values or elements of cultural heritage. They have been permanently inscribed in the landscape of Poland and Europe, thanks to their potential, in the context of historical memory, protection of tangible and intangible heritage, education, and tourism. They are tools for popularizing and bringing out the ethos and identity of the inhabitants. In the context of the development of cultural tourism and the introduction of new trails to the tourist landscape, it is worth considering the role of the experiences acquired by travelers through overcoming the subsequent stages of the cultural route. Participation in activities prepared by trail organizers plays an important role in enabling visitors and natives to learn about the heritage of a given area or to take root in the traditions of a region or nation. The analysis is based on research concerning the tourist landscape, cultural routes, and the author’s own experiences.

Place identity is an important constituent of general cultural identity, in that it provides its share of continuity, sustainability, and character to the built environment. The image of cultural heritage is stored knowledge that reflects the identity of a specific culture. In the formation of a place, some features gain identity with the environment. This study aims to explore the evolving image formation of wind towers in Dubai, and how this image is related to the concept of meaning and cultural identity of the place. This study focuses on the process of place identity formation and its relation to the evolving cultural values of society, as well as how it is applied to the changing meaning of cultural heritage objects. Based on the value assessment approach, different examples of wind towers, taken from either traditional houses or contemporary buildings influenced by the local architecture in Dubai, the author attempted to study how the interpretation and meaning of wind towers has evolved through time, thus influencing the cultural identity of Dubai city. This study is based on qualitative research. It concludes that a wind tower, as a cooling device, represents a unique example of an evolving creative process of architectural expression, resulting from the social and cultural complexity of the Persian Gulf in the early twentieth century. They were introduced through commercial exchange, adapted by the mercantile community, and integrated into local cultural systems—thus creating new architectural features and urban character—and reintroduced as a modern symbol of cultural identity for Dubai and the UAE.

Monumental buildings in a historical environment are of significant value due to their centralized locations, massive scale, and striking features. Monumental buildings also play an important role in the introduction of the city in question. This study examines the tourismoriented viewpoints of the locals in Tokat on monumental buildings as cultural heritage samples. It aims to reveal both the interest of the city-dwellers in tourism, and their positive and negative views on it. The study was based on a face-to-face survey with a total of 200 people conducted in Tokat city center during the months of April and May 2016. An incidental method was used to select the survey participants. The survey was in two parts. The first included questions used to elicit the viewpoints of the locals in Tokat on tourism and tourists. The second part of the survey contained questions about the tourism-directed usage of the monumental buildings in the city, and whether these monumental buildings corresponded with tourism in terms of portraying the city image. As a result, it is observed that Tokat is an important tourist attraction with its historical texture; the locals in the city recognize the significance of tourism and they treat tourists in a hospitable manner. The historical texture and a city’s history are among the most important issues in cultural tourism. Additionally, the monumental buildings are the most significant elements as they reflect the architectural features of the relevant periods.
