This study examines teaching methodologies used by composition instructors in a private university in Kenya where composition is taught to all undergraduate students. The study adopted a qualitative approach in the form of narrative inquiry to explore challenging topics in teaching and learning argumentation, methodological interventions, instructors' use of technology, and to suggest strategies for addressing problem areas. Purposive sampling was adopted, resulting in narratives from three experienced course instructors. Learner-centred approaches were prevalent, especially in addressing challenging topics such as formulation of claims, supporting arguments with evidence, recognising fallacies and appeals, and documentation of sources of information.

University students from all academic programs and institutions of higher education in Colombia are evaluated through standardized tests that measure general and specific competencies according to the academic level (professional, technical). One of these tests corresponds to the called Saber Pro, where undergraduate students from all disciplinary areas are evaluated in two modules: generic (or basic) and specific competencies, which are related to evaluation, learning and teaching. The objective of this study is to carry out an analysis of the characterization of the population and the results that took the exam in 2019. The group correspond to teachers training in academic undergraduate programs in natural sciences and environmental education. The methodology carried out was the documentary analysis of the databases where we can find the results of this test for the study of population, the analysis of the results was carried out by qualitative and quantitative approach. Seventeen universities in the country of official and private origin were found with distance and face-toface modalities; characteristics of those evaluated students were established and there was also an analysis based on the individual averages per university for the test components. The analysis of the results allowed identifying the characteristics of socio-demographics, all most of them are in vulnerable situations, the women have major access to internet and computer tools and the educational levels completed is major in the students´ mother. The level of scientific publications of Indonesian students at the international level is still very minimal. Even when compared to Malaysia and Thailand, Indonesia is still lagging behind. The Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education targets that in 2019 Indonesia will reach 30,000 international publications. Therefore, students' interest in writing must be increased, especially writing based on sources. Therefore, this study would like to find students' perspectives and perceived challenges in writing based on sources. This research was based on a case study.  The research involved 68 students from one of the state universities in Bandung, and it analyzed 20 selected scientific papers written by students. The instruments for data collection included questionnaire and observation. The results of this study found that 59% of students perceived that writing scientific papers is very difficult. The students found it difficult to find suitable sources for writing material and develop their ideas. They tended to use articles as the sources from the internet whose originality is unclear. One reason this happens was because 80% of students did not know where to find or get indexed journals to use as references for their writing. In addition, many students also preferred not to use journals that were majorly English-based because of their limitation of English skills. The implication is that students should be given further understanding of how to access journals and use reference sources in writing. It is expected that every lecturer will give more source-based writing assignments so that the ability of students to write and develop ideas based on existing sources can be further improved.

The mortality salience hypothesis of terror management theory was tested in a predominantly Muslim country. In Study 1a, private university students primed with thoughts of death reported more negative evaluations of a paragraph arguing state universities’ superiority to private ones, compared to a control condition in which “death” was replaced by “an important exam.” Study 1b conceptually replicated this finding at a state university. Study 2 found that MS participants wanted their home country to have stronger relations with Turkmenistan and weaker relations with England and Greece. Results were discussed with reference to university and national identity, and implications for future research were noted.

By the 1920s and 1930s those concerned with keeping a Christian presence faced many challenges. One solution was for mainline Protestant denominations to strengthen their student ministries, especially on state university campuses. One approach was to sponsor “Bible chairs” in which qualified professors taught courses on the Bible or Christian religious themes for credit. By 1940 virtually all church-related schools and most state universities had departments of religion. These were liberal Protestant institutions and emphasized scientific and literary study of religion. Despite these efforts higher education was rapidly growing in many other areas, so religion remained peripheral to most of their activities. As compensation this was an era of building huge chapels. Student religious life declined; the YMCA and YWCA in particular declined as did evangelical religious interests. Chapel requirements largely disappeared. The dominant liberal Protestants emphasized teaching character and becoming good citizens grounded in the broadly Christian tradition.

Online learning in higher education has grown tremendously in the past decade. This trend has been particularly evident at The Pennsylvania State University, where the number of online-only learners now exceeds 20,000. The biggest challenge to institutions like ours is identifying, attracting, and retaining enough instructors who are qualified and available to meet the increased demand of online student enrollment. To help administrators and program chairs tackle these challenges, a research study was conducted to learn more about the incentives that attract and retain a specific workforce in higher education: adjunct faculty. The findings suggest that one size does not always fit all - context matters. Instead of making general assumptions about the motivations or needs of an adjunct faculty member, we need to get to know the individual first. This study sheds light on the specific extrinsic and intrinsic motivators that attract and retain each of five types of adjunct faculty to teach online, which can help program administrators be more effective in hiring and retaining adjuncts.

This study used design-based research approaches to investigate student plagiarism in an online course, with the objective of determining the instructional interventionist strategies that can help students avoid the practice in online courses. Twenty eight (28) undergraduate students who were engaged in a semester-long online course in Educational Technology at a private university in Ghana participated in the study. Drawing on relevant learning and related theories, the study implemented different learning activities pertaining to plagiarism at regular intervals during the semester, and then subsequently analyzed students’ individual and group course writings for evidence of plagiarism. Findings reveal that regular and varied instructional interventions helps students reduce and eventually avoid plagiarism in the online learning environment. Students were also found to plagiarize to a much lesser extent when they worked in groups than when they worked individually. Implications of these findings for the design and management of online learning courses in higher education are briefly discussed.
