The purposes of this research are to do a system simulation of air conditioning utilizing solar energy with single effect absorption refrigeration method, analyze the coefficient of performance (COP) for each absorbent-refrigerant variable and compare the effectivity of every absorbent-refrigerant variable used. COP is a constant that denotes the effeciency of a refrigeration system, that is ratio of work or useful output to the amount of work or energy input. The higher the number of COP, the more efficient the system is. Absorbent-refrigerant (working fluids) variables used in this research depend on its chemical and thermodynamics properties. Steps in this research are including data collection and tabulation from literature and do a simulation of air conditioning system both commercial air conditioning system (using electrical energy) and solar energy air conditioning system with Aspen Plus software. Next, run the simulation for each working fluid variables used and calculate the COP for each variable. Subsequently, analyze and compare the effectivity of all variables used from COP value and economical point of view with commercial air conditioning system. From the result of the simulation, can be concluded that solar air conditioning can achieve 98,85 % of energy savings than commercial air conditioning. Furthermore, from the calculation of COP, the highest COP value is achieved by solar conditioning system with LiNO3-NH3 as working fluid where 55% of the composition is the refrigerant and 45% of absorbent.

The process of operating an air conditioning system by hybrid energy that uses solar energy for purpose of saving electrical energy with improving the performance from modern and environmentally friendly systems. With high demand for air-conditioning systems in summer in hot regions, especially in Iraq due to high temperatures, the issue of using renewable energies becomes more attractive due to the continuous interruption of electrical energy. Air conditioners in Iraq consume more than half of the average electricity production. Therefore, saving energy leads to ensuring the reliability of electricity and reduces the consumption of fuel and gases that pollute the environment and negatively affect on the ozone layer. In the current research, the atmosphere of the city Baghdad was used to collect the solar thermal energy through a vacuum solar collector and combine it with a conventional air conditioner in order to reduce the electrical energy consumption on the compressor and increase the coefficient of performance. Several tests were conducted on the experimental device for comparing results with the conventional device and evaluating performance. The results showed that the performance with the vacuum solar collector became more efficient 8.97 instead of 4.27 than with the conventional system, and the energy consumption decreased by 52%.

Air conditioning plays a significant role to maintain a cool atmosphere in warm conditions, However, the power consumed by the machine is higher. The commercial prevailing cooling systems are required to operate ventilation and cooling systems in buildings and in turn consumes more power. These systems apart from consuming electricity it also adds to the CO2 emissions to our environment. These energy consumption and CO2 emissions can be decreased by the assistance of energy effective frameworks to the prevailing air conditioning system. The study was conducted on a package unit of 414.2 kW by measuring the relative humidity, dry bulb, and wet bulb temperature to investigate the effect of indirect evaporative cooling on the systems COP. Also, the modelling of the package unit was done using Creo software and the analysis was carried out using ANSYS considering the flow and thermal analysis for different components of the package units. From this analysis it can be observed that by implementing the adiabatic cooling in package unit it is possible to save energy consumption. From the results it can be concluded that energy efficiency was more and the return on investment is high. Also, coefficient of performance of this machine is high and consumes less electricity and the expected energy savings is 20%.

The high reliability, the absence of working fluid and auxiliary pipes in the thermoelectric cooling application have attracted the attention of researchers in the last two decades. However, the use of thermoelectric air-conditioning system for building application has not been entirely explored due to its low coefficient of performance (COP) compared to the conventional air conditioning system. To overcome this primary limitation, different COP enhancement techniques of thermoelectric for air conditioning system building application are made available. This paper provides the recent development of thermoelectric air conditioning system in building applications, such as thermoelectric radiant panel ceiling, thermoelectric air duct system and thermoelectric cooling facades. It also provides the different strategies to enhance its performance in order to fit this technology in real building applications such as the integration of water-cooling system, phase change materials, evaporator cooling system and nanofluid micro-channel heat sinks. Lastly, the challenges of thermoelectric air-conditioning systems and future research directions are discussed.

This paper presents the experimental tests on hybrid desiccant dehumidification and air conditioning systems. Experimental tests are carried out with LiCl desiccant at typical operative ranges for air conditioning applications, particularly for high humid regions like Hong Kong. Results are reported in terms of coefficient of performance (COP) based on primary energy usage and electrical energy usage, respectively. Experiments have demonstrated consistent reduction in humidity ratio satisfying the sensible as well as latent load through a respective subsystem and thereby resulting in a higher COP based on primary energy usage. Also, results show that the regeneration temperature as well as process air flow rate have a significant role on the system performance. It is found that the hybrid system can achieve a higher part load performance, and hence can assure of its effective operation all year around in hot humid regions.

Abstract Thermally driven vapor absorption-based air-conditioning systems possess many advantages over the compression based systems. However, intermittent availability of input resources affects the operation of these absorption systems which causes discontinuous working. This study aims at examining the electrical and thermodynamic performance of a triple-hybrid vapor absorption-assisted air-conditioning system against a conventional system with the aid of EnergyPlus simulations for a small office building. The outside weather is subjected to hot-dry climatic condition. The heat input source includes biomass and solar energy-based resources. Auxiliary heat input is also used to ensure smooth operation. The performance of the absorption system is assessed at different generator temperature (70 °C–80 °C) and solar collector area (400 m2–500 m2). The results show that, by using absorption-based systems, a maximum of 34.1% electrical energy savings can be ensured at 500 m2 collector area with 70 °C generator temperature. The coefficient of performance of the absorption system escalates from 0.50 to 0.52 by increasing the generator temperature form 70 °C to 80 °C. Under the condition of 70 °C generator temperature and 500 m2 collector area, the absorption system can be made fully renewable energy dependent.

At Hamburg University of Technology the combination of an open cycle desiccant-assisted air conditioning system and a geothermal system is investigated in the framework of different research projects for several years. The objective of this study is to investigate the energy efficiency of the overall system and to evaluate the geothermal system during summer and winter mode, based on data measured for a temperate climate region. Monitoring results of the performance for dehumidification and remoistening of supply air are presented. Furthermore, the investigated system is compared to reference air conditioning processes. During summer mode, an average dehumidification efficiency of 1.15 is achieved. The electrical energy savings compared to a conventional reference system sum up to 50% for the investigated cooling period. System operation during winter shows an average moisture recovery efficiency of 0.75. The electrical energy demand for air humidification is reduced by 50% compared to a system with electric isothermal air humidification. The geothermal system is operated efficiently throughout the year for cooling and heating application. Besides the energetic system evaluation, measured data regarding the soil temperature and thermal comfort are presented.

Among different strategies available technologically to reduce energy consumption and environmental impact in buildings, there is the use of new thermal-operated air conditioning systems. An available alternative is absorption refrigeration systems, which can operate with renewable energy sources such as solar energy, and use environmentally friendly refrigerant substances. In Colombia, this type of systems has not been investigated thoroughly nor have carried out developments, because the field of solar energy is emphasized in the use of thermal energy, to be used on a refrigeration cycle that allows to condition an environment of a determined compound, and besides that, this air conditioning going to achieve through intelligent control, it has not been subject of considerable advances, neither in the part of applied research, nor its implementation. According to this, the idea is to use developments of these systems that have been simulated and implemented in other countries, including Spain, for the start in the UPB with research, development and implementation of those after making a literature review about the systems. To develop the aforementioned system, a comprehensive literature review of the technologies has been made to be implemented in terms of automation and control. A simulation in the TRNSYS software of the system to be implemented in a building on the campus of the UPB, which requires air conditioning for the comfort of the people who inhabit, is eveloped. The system will be regulated by a controle system that receives information from various parts of the plant with temperature and flow sensors. To carry out the control of this system, classical control techniques are going to be used for some water systems that constitute the demonstrative installation, but for the part of chilled water and air conditioning, intelligent control techniques will be handled, which allows to meet the needs of the air conditioning system that is intended to be implement, as this part is quite complex for the management of different variables. This system will operate automatically acting on valves, pumps, fans, fan-coil and/or mats of water (they act as radiant walls) for correct operation by previously established set points [1].

An absorption air-conditioning system is a good choice for green buildings. It has the superiority in the utilization of renewable energy and the refrigerant is environment-friendly. However, the performance of the traditional absorption system has been restricted by the energy waste in the thermal regeneration process. Capacitive deionization (CDI) regeneration is proposed as a potential method to improve system efficiency. In the new method-based air-conditioning system, strong absorbent solutions and pure water are acquired with the joint work of two CDI units. Nevertheless, the practical CDI device is composed of a lot of CDI units, which is quite different from the theoretical model. To reveal the performance of multiple CDI units, the model of the double/multi-stage CDI system has been developed. Analysis has been made to expose the influence of some key parameters. The results show the double-stage system has better performance than the single-stage system under certain conditions. The coefficient of performance (COP) could exceed 4.5, which is higher than the traditional thermal energy-driven system, or even as competitive as the vapor compression system. More stages with proper voltage distribution better the performance. It also provides the optimization method for the multi-stage CDI system.

Didik Ariwibowo, in this paper explain that energy audit activities conducted through several phases, namely: the initial audit, detailed audit, analysis of energy savings opportunities, and the proposed energy savings. Total energy consumed consists of electrical energy, fuel, and materials in this case is water. Electrical energy consumption data obtained from payment of electricity accounts for a year while consumption of fuel and water obtained from the payment of material procurement. From the calculation data, IKE hotels accounted for 420.867 kWh/m2.tahun, while the IKE standards for the hotel is 300 kWh/m2.tahun. Thus, IKE hotel included categorized wasteful in energy usage. The largest energy consumption on electric energy consumption. Largest electric energy consumption is on the air conditioning (AC-air conditioning) that is equal to 71.3%, and lighting and electrical equipment at 27.28%, and hot water supply system by 4.44%. Electrical energy consumption in AC looks very big. Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the statutes, the profile of energy use by air conditioning at the hotel by 48.5%. With these considerations in the AC target for audit detail as the next phase of activity. The results of a detailed audit analysis to find an air conditioning system energy savings opportunities in pumping systems. Recommendations on these savings is the integration of automation on the pumping system and fan coil units (FCU). The principle of energy conservation in the pumping system is by installing variable speed drives (VSD) pump drive motor to adjust speed according to load on the FCU. Load variations FCU provide input on the VSD pumps to match. Adaptation is predicted pump can save electricity consumption up to 65.7%. Keywords: energy audit, IKE, AC
