Research background: This paper analyzes the outcomes of an exploratory review of the current research on the relationship between the global adoption of mobile payment technologies, social interactive consumer-oriented applications, and online purchasers’ decision-making process. Purpose of the article: The data used for this study was obtained and replicated from previous research conducted by Econsultancy and Statista. We performed analyses and made estimates regarding mobile e-commerce sales worldwide, frequency of mobile retail app usage according to U.S. smartphone shoppers, how well organizations understand the customer journey for certain audiences, share of Internet users who are likely to use mobile payments on their smartphone in the next year (by country), and time spent per mobile app category. Methods: Data collected from 6,200 respondents are tested against the research model by using structural equation modeling. Findings & Value added: The advent of smartphones redesigns the routine of shopping, thus altering the agency of users. Retailers have instant access to data on the geographical position of users that can be employed in addition to other information to regulate the decision-making process. Perceived effortlessness in utilization of the smartphone is somewhat similar for various mobile shopping application settings. The degree to which mobile purchasing applications are time critical and location sensitive may differ substantially. Mobile retailers can make public the personal, collaborative, and instantaneous buying experience that mobile shopping can offer to customers.

Research background: We develop a conceptual framework based on a systematic and comprehensive literature review on smartphones as consumption tools globally. Purpose of the article: Building our argument by drawing on data collected from Comscore, Econsultancy, and Statista, we performed analyses and made estimates regarding the adoption of Internet-enabled devices for shopping purposes: selected retail and shopping activities of EU smartphone users, most popular mobile shopping apps in the U.S. (by reach), adults in the EU who never make purchases on mobile devices (by gender), and consumers who use a mobile device for product research while shopping in-store worldwide (by country). Methods: The data for this research were gathered via an online survey questionnaire and were analyzed through structural equation modeling on a sample of 4,200 respondents. Findings & Value added: Smartphones have permeated the online community swiftly. The difficult task retailers confront is in obtaining consumers’ mutual support in supplying the information required to provide a customized shopping experience. Mobile payment privacy is associated with apprehensions that users may have concerning what will become of the data supplied when they adopt mobile payment. A satisfactory array of facilitating circumstances brings about greater purpose to adopt mobile shopping applications, especially when diverse viable functions such as convenience and swift purchase are provided. Intention to raise subsequent benefits from mobile buying should harmonize the lasting value predisposition of the mobile purchasers. The essential issue encountered by the service suppliers is how to turn the developing mobile payment operation into financial earnings.

PurposeThe purpose of this research is to propose and validate a theoretical framework explaining web-rooming and showrooming as a multi-stage decision-making process. The authors have used consumer purchase decision-making theories to propose a model that identifies showrooming and webrooming as a combination of two decisions, channel choice during information search and channel choice during actual purchase. Further, the authors explored how various antecedents of showrooming and webrooming have differential effects on various stages of a purchase decision-making process and how product type moderates the relationships.Design/methodology/approachThe authors have conducted empirical research, whereby 243 responses were obtained from a cross-sectional survey. The authors have used structural equation modeling and multiple regression analysis to validate our theoretical model.FindingsWebrooming or showrooming is a multi-stage decision-making process for the consumers. First, consumers decide whether to search online or offline and then whether to buy online and offline. Different individual, purchase context-related and channel related factors impact these decisions. Product type governs which variables will be more important than others.Originality/valueThe research looks to enhance the understanding of the consumer's decision-making process during showrooming and webrooming while also helping retailers design and implement appropriate strategies that could affect consumers during information search and actual purchase.

Background: Therapeutic research in multiple sclerosis (MS) has focused on the development of treatments with little investigation regarding the possibility of discontinuation of disease-modifying therapies (DMTs). Objective: To understand the opinion of individuals with MS concerning stopping DMTs and the factors that influence the decision-making process. Methods: A mixed method approach was used starting with three focus groups from which a survey was developed. This survey was sent to 1000 participants in the North American Research Committee on Multiple Sclerosis registry who met inclusion criteria (age ⩾45 years; on most recent DMT for ⩾5 years). Descriptive analysis and structural equation modeling were used. Results: Of 1000 participants receiving the survey, 377 provided complete responses and met inclusion criteria. Only 11.9% of participants reported that if their disease was considered stable, they would consider coming off medications. A high level of external locus of control in influential others such as physicians significantly decreased the likelihood of considering discontinuation. Conclusions: Most individuals with MS report being unlikely to consider stopping MS therapy if their disease was considered “non-active.” As the results of studies concerning DMT discontinuation are obtained, information from providers will be an important part of individuals’ decision-making process.

Research background: With growing evidence of consumer adoption of mobile shopping apps, there is a pivotal need for comprehending Internet-enabled consumer devices in mobile shopping behavior. Mobile shopping platform features and user technological readiness configure consumers? expectations and demands as regards mobile retailing adoption, leading to acceptance of mobile shopping apps and payment services. Purpose of the article: In this research, prior findings have been cumulated indicating that mobile social apps extend throughout consumer attitudes and behaviors by the widespread adoption of smartphones. We contribute to the literature by showing that cutting-edge technological developments associated with customer behavior in relation to mobile commerce apps have resulted in the rise of data-driven systems. Consumer behavioral intention and adoption intention in relation to mobile shopping apps/websites are developed on perceived risk and trust consequences. Methods: Throughout February and March 2021, a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases was carried out, with search terms comprising ?mobile shopping app?, ?mobile commerce platform?, ?mobile payment service?, ?Internet-enabled consumer device?, ?consumer technological adoption?, and ?mobile shopping behavior?. As research published between 2018 and 2021 was analyzed, only 330 sources met the suitability criteria. By removing questionable or indeterminate findings (insubstantial/inconsequent data), results unconfirmed by replication, too imprecise content, or having quite similar titles, 66, chiefly empirical, sources were selected. A systematic review of recently published literature was carried out on technological adoption of mobile commerce apps by employing Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. The Systematic Review Data Repository was used, a software program for the gathering, handling, and analysis of data for the systematic review. The quality of the academic articles was determined by harnessing the Mixed Method Appraisal Tool. Findings & value added: The consumer purchase decision?making process in mobile app-based marketing involves consumer engagement and willingness to adopt mobile commerce apps. Further advancements should clarify how technological-based consumer adoption of mobile shopping throughout social commerce can improve the payment for products and services.

The research problem of this study is to understand whether people with higher level of EE are more likely to choose farm stays for their vacation. The main aim of this study is to investigate the causal relationship between an individual’s environmental education (EE) and their theory of planned behavior (TPB) decision-making process that leads to future visit intention. A convenient sampling method was used to survey visitors of Toucheng Leisure Farm in the mountain region of Taiwan; and a total of 600 responses were collected. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the data. The results showed that five of the six hypotheses were supported. This finding suggests that environmental education makes an individual more pro-environmental and susceptible to the social norms about environmental protection. Environmental education, however, does not affect the inconvenience or extra cost incurred by purchasing green products.

Purpose – This study analyzes the relationship between self-efficacy and the stages of the decision-making process, based on the perception of the undergraduate students in bachelor degree in Business Administration.Design/methodology/approach – It characterizes as a descriptive research, with a quantitative approach, using the Structural Equation Modeling technique, and data collection performed through a survey.Findings – The results indicate an association between self-efficacy and the stages of the decision-making process, allowing partial acceptance of the research hypothesis. In this sense, Effectiveness towards Adversity and Social Efficacy are shown as elements to be observed in terms of developing skills, which enable the students to realize such constructs, since there is a significant relationship with behavior in the decision making process. Thus, self-efficacy is presented as a propeller of the individual's confidence in the challenges and experiences with interpersonal relationships, whose experience supports the cognitive process which enables the recognition of the situation and the actions to be developed. Moreover, it is worth noticing the relevance of considering behavioral aspects in decision-making studies; regarding to, as well, the current discussions about the limitations of rational decision models.Research limitations/implications – The cross-section time frame and the sample composition of academics at a university are limitations that can be overcome in the future.Originality/value - Analyzing the relationship of self-efficacy with the stages of the decision-making process becomes relevant, since it brings contributions on the relationship of subjective abilities with decision making, in order to highlight characteristics not covered by rational decision-making models.

Several methodologies for academically exploring causality have been addressed in recent years. The decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL), one of the multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques, relies on expert judgements to construct an influential network relation map (INRM), revealing the mutual causes and effects of the criteria and dimensions for presentation of the results in a visual manner. The interactional impacts may be evaluated without considering the presumed hypotheses. The DEMATEL has been successfully utilized to assist in complex decision-making problems in various contexts. However, there is controversy about the reliance upon expert judgements, which could be subjective. Thus, this study seeks to overcome this dispute by developing a data-driven, concept-based novel hybrid model which the authors call SEM-DEMATEL. The model first constructs the direct effects between indicators based on structural equation modeling (SEM) and then utilizes DEMATEL to confirm the interdependence among the variables and identify their causes and effects. Finally, an empirical study exploring the key factors affecting mobile payment usage intention is further conducted to demonstrate the feasibility, validity, and reliability of the novel SEM-DEMATEL research approach. The results identify that the perceived value is the key influencing indicator of m-payment usage intention, and the objectivity and efficiency of the research results are compared.

Purpose Through application of multi-level structural equation modeling as the data analysis technique, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the group-level impacts on a couple’s food choices during travel at a coastal destination. Design/methodology/approach Researchers obtained 380 individual questionnaires from 190 mixed gender couples (who eat oysters) in Charleston and Beaufort County, South Carolina, USA. Data were collected from both members of the couple during their vacation. Due to missing data and normality issues 5 couples and 30 individuals were eliminated. The remaining data were analyzed with SPSS 21 and EQS 6.2 with advanced confirmatory factor analysis and multi-level (ML) regression techniques. Findings The study results indicated that while women have a more negative attitude than men toward oysters, their intention to eat oysters during vacation is not different from their partner. By detecting the interdependency of responses of individuals within a couple, this study revealed that a ML approach is a more powerful way to understand the decision-making process of couples. Additionally the difference in the results of single- and ML models showed that the latter approach lowers the chance of Type 2 error and provides more accurate results. Originality/value In tourism decision-making literature, the focus has been mostly on the individual despite the collectivistic nature of tourism activity. The current study is the first to analyze a couple’s decision-making process at the group level. Furthermore by collecting data from both members of the group during their vacation, this study has distinguished itself from previous studies.

Research background: Despite the relevance of customer experiences of technology-enabled business applications in smartphone-based mobile shopping globally in terms of browsing satisfaction, purchasing intention, and buying behavior, only limited research has been conducted on this topic. Purpose of the article: Using and replicating data from Statista, I performed analyses and made estimates regarding mobile shopping app user acquisition rate worldwide, EU consumers who use their mobile phone for shopping-related activities, preferred payment methods of online shoppers worldwide, and digital payment methods that U.S. retailers accept or plan to accept. Methods: The results of a study based on data collected from 5,200 respondents provide support for my research model. Using the structural equation modeling, I gathered and analyzed data through a self-administrated questionnaire. Findings & Value added: Mobile retailers have engineered their technological proficiencies to encompass digitally savvy purchasers. Smartphone applications created to help users in their ethical consumer performances allow and influence responsible consumption. Smartphones and the repositioning to mobile-device-supported purchase enable users to incorporate shopping into their ordinarily hectic and mobile activities. Mobile applications vary in respect of whether data exchange is essentially brought into and thus regulated by the recipient or the supplier. Particularly for financial grounds, applications which are extremely time critical are not as much adjustable to revision attributable to user misinterpretations or system failure.
