A comprehensive study of the microvasculature of the normal rabbit bladder, revealed unusual "capillary glomeruli" along the lateral walls. Here they are characterized as hemal lymph nodes using light microscopy, SEM, TEM, ink injection, and vascular casting.Bladders were perfused via a cannula placed in the abdominal aorta with either 2% glutaraldehyde in 0.1M cacodylate buffer (pH 7.4) for fixation, 10% India ink in 0.9% saline and 0.1M phosphate (pH 7.4) for vessel tracing, or resin (Mercoximethylmethacrylate: catalyst, 4:1:0.3; Ladd Research Industries) for vascular corrosion casting. Infusion pressure was 100mm Hg. Fixed tissue was sectioned from epon-araldyte resin, and stained with toluidine blue for light microscopy, and lead and uranium for TEM. Ink injected tissue was photographed directly from saline-filled bladders illuminated from below. Resin-filled tissue was macerated in 5% KOH and distilled water. Casts were critical point dried, sputter coated with goldpalladium, and examined by routine SEM at 10 KV.

It describes the particular stages of design taking its final shape: from a preliminary design, through a detailed design, ending with the stage of production. Oklahoma! premiered on Broadway on 31 March 1943 under the auspices of the Theatre Guild, and today it is performed more frequently than any other Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. When this book was first published in 2007, it offered the first fully documented history of the making of the show based on archival materials, manuscripts, journalism, and other sources. The present revised edition draws still further on newly uncovered sources to provide an even clearer account of a work that many have claimed fundamentally changed Broadway musical theater. It is filled with rich and fascinating details about the play on which Oklahoma! was based (Lynn Riggs’s Green Grow the Lilacs); on what encouraged Theresa Helburn and Lawrence Langner of the Guild to bring Rodgers and Hammerstein together for their first collaboration; on how Rouben Mamoulian and Agnes de Mille became the director and choreographer; on the drafts and revisions that led the show toward its final shape; and on the rehearsals and tryouts that brought it to fruition. It also examines the lofty aspirations and the mythmaking that surrounded Oklahoma! from its very inception, and demonstrates just what made it part of its times.

AbstractA pile of grains, even when at rest in a silo, can display fascinating properties. One of the most celebrated is the Janssen effect, named after the pioneering engineer who explained the pressure saturation at the bottom of a container filled with corn. This surprising behavior arises because of frictional interactions between the grains through a disordered network of contacts, and the vessel lateral walls, which partially support the weight of the column, decreasing its apparent mass. Here, we demonstrate control over frictional interactions using ferromagnetic grains and an external magnetic field. We show that the anisotropic pairwise interactions between magnetized grains result in a radial force along the walls, whose amplitude and direction is fully determined by the applied magnetic field. Such magnetic Janssen effect allows for the fine tuning of the granular column apparent mass. Our findings pave the way towards the design of functional jammed materials in confined geometries, via a further control of both their static and dynamic properties.

A 53-year-old man was admitted for recurrent syncope and found to have complete heart block (CHB). Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging MRI) showed extensive patchy late gadolinium enhancement in the apical and lateral walls, consistent with cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) but no scar in the septum. A fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)–positron emission tomography showed FDG uptake in the septum and basal lateral walls. Imaging suggested active inflammation in the septum affecting atrioventricular (AV) conduction but no irreversible fibrosis. Diagnosis of isolated CS requires a high level of suspicion and multidisciplinary teamwork involving heart failure specialists, electrophysiologists and rheumatologists. After specialist and patient discussion, treatment of the disease was initiated with prednisone 40 mg daily, 11 months after presenting with CHB. Three weeks later, ECG with pacing inhibited showed second-degree AV block Mobitz type II and 4 weeks later, AV conduction recovery. This highlights the importance of immediate therapy in reversing AV conduction abnormalities in CS.

The impact of lateral walls and partial slip with different waveforms on peristaltic pumping of couple stress fluid in a rectangular duct with different waveforms has been discussed in the current article. By means of a wave frame of reference the flow is explored travelling away from a fixed frame with velocity c. Peristaltic waves generated on horizontal surface walls of rectangular duct are considered using lubrication technique. Mathematical modelling of couple fluid for three-dimensional flow are first discussed in detail. Lubrication approaches are used to simplify the proposed problem. Exact solutions of pressure gradient, pressure rise, velocity and stream function have been calculated. Numerical and graphical descriptions are displayed to look at the behaviour of diverse emerging parameters.
