The COVID-19 global pandemic has created unique and far-reaching impacts on corporations. Given the essential oversight role of boards of directors, it becomes critical for them to develop strategies as their companies respond to the challenges and risks under these unprecedented circumstances. This paper applies corporate governance principles and action plans for boards to help their companies survive this crisis and build sound business prospects both in the short run and long run. For immediate company survival, this paper encourages boards of directors to focus on short-term liquidity and employ five principles for COVID cash management as proposed in Gifford (2020), including detailed forecasting, setting spending priorities, initiating early communication, shortening reporting cycles, and planning for low cashpoints. Since liquidity does not equate to solvency for company survival, boards of directors also need to focus on long-term solvency by monitoring the new normal of business strategies, including the high likelihood of insolvency among small businesses and mixed solvency situations among large corporation. In addition, this paper identifies the key opportunities for the boards of directors to exploit and strengthen corporate governance during this pandemic period, including advocating a COVID disaster recovery plan with best practices, developing an emergency response checklist, establishing efficient disaster responses, and bolstering monitoring mechanisms for employees, operations, finances, customers, and supply chains (Butcher, 2020). The major sections of this paper are current COVID reflections, a case study of the Hertz Corporation, future COVID reflections, business strategies for the new normal, COVID cash management principles, COVID threats to corporate governance, COVID opportunities for corporate governance, and conclusions

Tourism has a significant impact on economic development of the regions, encouraging the currency inflow into the country, creating new jobs, improving infrastructure. In this regard, creation of supporting business environment is an objective condition for the effective functioning of small businesses, which form the basis of entrepreneurial activity in tourism. The development of tourism entrepreneurship in the Astrakhan region is characterized by an increase in the number of subjects and objects of the tourist market, the number of tourists and volume of services provided, both due to the presence of unique natural and recreational resources and systemic interaction of subjects of small entrepreneurship within the tourism cluster. The analysis of tourism entrepreneurship in the region has identified a number of issues affecting tourism development: a high share of shadow business entities, monoproductivity, ineffective strategic management, absence of a unified system of state support, etc. The solution of these issues can be found due to the working out and implementing the strategy of tourism development, one aspect of which is the creation of a supporting business environment as a tool for improving the competitiveness of the tourism industry in the region.

This study is aimed at investigating what has happened to the dynamic linkages between foreign direct investment (FDI) and tourism development in China since the emergence of the so-called new normal economy. A time-varying parameter vector autoregressive (TVP-VAR) model is used for the first time to analyze the equi-spaced and time-point impulse responses between FDI, foreign exchange earnings from international tourism (FEE), and gross domestic product using annual data taken from 1983 to 2017. The results for the equi-spaced impulse response show that a difference in intensity for the interaction effect between FDI and FEE will change with different intervals. In addition, impulse response diagrams for FDI and FEE based on changes in economic development at three significant points in time reveal that the effect FDI in the new normal period has had the greatest impact on FEE in 2012, followed in decreasing impact by 2003 and then 1997.
