Societies across the world currently deal with multiple interconnected problems whose solutions call for the active participation of various actors. The private sector is among them and as a result, business leaders are in need of competencies that enable them to find appropriate answers. Sustainability competence may offer the key to transition towards a more equal and fair economy where the resources are maintained for the use of future generations. Higher Education Institutions and specifically business schools are an essential means to develop such competency. This chapter presents a proposal of an educational pathway for the development of competencies for sustainability and offers educators an array of teaching techniques that could be used at each stage.

This paper presents a case of collaboration between different types of public services and the private sector for the promotion of an entrepreneurial culture. This collaboration is achieved by means of a centre established and developed by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, the Centro de Iniciativas Emprendedoras (the Centre for Entrepreneurial Initiatives, CIADE). Since its creation CIADE has, because of a lack of university-allocated financial resources, been collaborating with a wide range of organizations in accordance with the Triple Helix model, including three levels of public administration (national, regional and local), several private businesses and different corporate civic bodies (mostly corporate foundations). CIADE's principal, distinctive attributes, with regard to the Triple Helix, are collaboration, self-financing, project management and a horizontal hierarchical structure which allows rapid accommodation of and adaptation to the changing circumstances of its environment.

Single-industry regions, common to all industrially developed countries, need to overcome the economic crises. We assume that it is possible to achieve this goal based on new forms of cooperation between the main participants: business, state, education, and science. Based on the triple helix model, the study develops a mechanism for cooperation between higher education and business in depressed single-industry regions. The model was tested on the example of the Republic of Kazakhstan. We use the methodological principles of logical, statistical analysis and synthesis. To increase the impact of universities on the national economic growth, we propose a cooperation mechanism based on the Triple Helix model. This model is adapted to the specificity of single-industry and depressed regions, where regional universities play a dominant role as a source of innovation and innovative synergy for the cooperation of partners involved. Simultaneously, the creation of new forms of cooperation between higher education and business leads to the acceleration of social and economic development of regions. The mechanism of the proposed triple helix model aims to encourage all participants to generate innovations, provide high-quality educational services, conduct research and fill business orders. Local and state authorities in the field of economic management can use the results and conclusions of the survey for creating regional development programmes.

Private sector higher education institutions (HEIs) play a significant rolein advancement of sustainability. In Pakistan still this concept is in stageof infancy and has received little research attention. Moreover, HEIs inprivate sector are facing a lot of barriers and challenges in itsimplementation. In this backdrop, the purpose of this exploratory study isto determine the roles, barriers and challenges for development ofsustainable private sector HEIs in Punjab using semi-structuredinterviews form 11 faculty members working in private sector HEIs inPunjab, thematic analysis was carried out using NVivo 12. In general, allthe participants agreed that private sector HEIs are the knowledgecreating institutes and they can actively promote the sustainabledevelopment in Pakistan through faculty training and active involvementof all the stakeholders and action oriented research. Major barriers werefound to be lack of finance, poor research culture, faculty incompetencyand inadequate management support. It is suggested that HEIs must usethe resources in an optimal manner and develop appropriate class roomenvironment, effective curriculum, right technology usage, solutionbased research and well developed infrastructure to generate theinnovative solutions for sustainable development.

In prevalent competitive environment of higher education institutions it has become vital for the institutional management to pursue for attainment of students satisfaction and maintain it throughout their stay in the institution during the course of study. Besides many predictors, the service quality is considered very vital factor in education sector to ensure students satisfaction all along their learning stage. Therefore, this research study aims to measure the relationship between the service qualities of higher education institutions with their customers (students) satisfaction. The service quality of higher education is determined by measuring various dimensions of service quality such as; the tangibility of institution and its infrastructure, reliability in its service delivery, responsiveness of its service providers, assurance and empathy. The research furthers its measurement of relationship of each dimension of service quality with students satisfaction level with a view to ascertain significance of each or otherwise. The research intends to investigate students of public and private sector universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The research is not only expected to determine the prevalent level students satisfaction and service quality of higher education, but also help to draw a comparative analyses between the public and private sector in this regard. The research would help the management of higher education institutions to revisit and regulate their strategies to deliver better service quality to its customers by focusing each dimension of the service quality individually.

Development and social safety of a country rely more on all the actions that involve proficiency, knowledge and highly qualified manpower who can bridge between new opportunities and job demand. Number of higher education institutions, student-teacher ratio whichdepict quality of education, student enrolment in universities and availability of qualified teachers is vital for the promotion of quality education with a smooth transaction of academic activities across the country. This research study is an effort to measure the situation of public and private universities in Sindh by focusing on the number of universities, student-teacher ratio in public and private sector, number of teachers and Sindh education expenditure. Date included in the study to achieve the objective has been reviewed and examined from the available source (Pakistan Education Statistic). An increase can be seen in the public universities but still there are more private universities in Sindh. Data reveals that the number of teachers in both university sectors has declined and there is an increasing trend of part time teachers in respective universities. Prominent decline can be seen in public sector university enrolmentswhereas increasing percentage ofstudent enrolments has been identified in private sector universities of Sindh.

Apprenticeship is a contractual form of work-based learning that has existed for centuries, but despite its historical impact on innovation and competitiveness, it has been perceived as a system for the shop floor or low-skill jobs. The dual apprenticeship system combines school study with training on the job. Well developed in several European countries it can lead to highly qualified jobs, so attracting the interest of universities and other higher education institutions. Academic, business and government stakeholders working together enact a Triple Helix (TH) framework. This article analyses how the TH is suitable for the governance of apprenticeship systems and discusses the implications of the model.
